I totally get people being surprised since Miguel is arguably the main student character of the show…. but Eli really needed this to make his story shine. I never knew I WANTED a Miyagi-Do trained Eli until it happened. I just wish we got to see more of Eli building a bond with Daniel like how we saw Robby building a bond with him in Seasons 1 and 2, but I’m happy with what we got. Miyagi-Do Eli might be one of my favorite character evolutions in the whole show since he essentially reclaimed everything that made him Hawk…. The confidence, the fighting skills, the girl…. Without having to become a bully again and embracing the very things that made him Eli to begin with. Demetri was right to believe that Hawk could be redeemed… and man did Eli/Hawk fly high… especially after Daniel finally allowed him to use both MDK and CK techniques, essentially becoming the balance everyone thought Miguel would be.
I dont think the eli and daniel bonding was needed. Mainly because hawks arc is personal and its something he needs to do on his own if he got anymore help with him getting back his confidence it wouldn't feel as surprising or satisfying compared to seeing eli get back up on his own (Moon is an exception becuase of how close they were already). At least thats how I see it.

My favorite dialogue was when he says “he knows all my moves, he trained at miyagi-do way longer than me.” Daniel: “and you trained at cobra Kai longer than him, you both know each other’s karate better than anyone. Put him on defense.” The show did a good job of making me think of him as Eli, and an instant memory played of Hawk’s powerhouse offense from seasons 1-3
What makes me love this even more is that Eli had his karate kid moment. The fact that he ended up using the move that his original master used to gain a hit on an opponent to win against his own opponent is a staple that occurs in almost every iteration of the karate kid, and unlike any of the other characters, Eli actually was given that moment.

I hope I’m not the only one who thought Hawk was forgiven a bit too quickly at the end of season 3, and the entire of season 4 was his redemption arc and it was done beautifully. The consequences of his actions weren’t forgiven or forgotten so easily. He had to reset himself for his forgiveness and redemption and it was amazing to watch. 10/10 for the writers of this show.
Absolutely, I'm glad they didn't just expect the audience to forgive him. It's effective storytelling that no one is harder on him than himself. It's only after he made amends to the ones he hurt the most that he became a likable hero again. Little moments show where he learned from his past (having an honorable match against Robby). The show excels at balancing when to give characters the spotlight, and focusing on Hawk this season was a great choice
The thing is that hawk wasn’t bullying Kenny, he was trying to stop Kenny from attacking his friends not realizing his friends started it and then when he told Kenny to get out while he still could he wasn’t trying to be mean he was giving advice in a menacing way

I'm so happy Hawk won the all valley, originally wanted Miguel to win as that's what i was expecting but Hawk deserved it and is my favourite character. I hope the Hawk comes back in season 5 as it truly makes the character stand out also despite miyagi do helping him I want him to go back to eagle fang as that's where he belongs imo. Johhny has helped so many of these characters but each season students or his dojo have been taken from him. Also despite fighting under miyagi do, both Hawk and Sam fought fighting the cobra kai / eagle fang way and came out on top (ok Tory won but that shit was rigged) which was a shame because Tory deserves a win at some point.
One of the things I really like about this season turning out to be Eli's ark at the end is how it manages to both come completely out of left field while you're watching it and yet makes complete sense once you're thinking about it.
The All Valley was the first time Eli had ever won a fight against a strong fighter. Up til then he was losing unless the person was weaker than him. The kiss from Moon gave him the power to finally win a fight by himself
To be honest hawk was kinda like the main character of season 4 yeah they focused on Robby and Miguel but hawk was the center character as he went from bully to compassionate character and his true self and when he becomes his true self he grows stronger and manages to defeat Robby. Hawk is my favorite character in the show and I loved season 4 not only because of hawks storyline but this season defined Samantha as a character because of Johnny, I didn’t like Sam before season 4 but now she is probably one of my favorite characters
Honestly Eli was more relevant to the series when he was Hawk. His redemption arc was never the main plot of an episode and he was forgiven way too quick. When it comes to character development, it was his best season but he was never the main character in any episode.
Sam was more of the center character than Eli since her main plots revolved around Daniel and Johnny, along with her being a support character for Tory. The main characters for the teen characters are Miguel, Sam, Robby, and now Tory.
Hawk needed that tournament win the most out of any character. I'm glad that they even kept Robby looking super strong. My two favorite characters having an epic duel in the finals. I was so happy.
I miss the hair tho because hawk is like a symbol of his most vicious self like when he showed the hawk tattoo on his back before fighting Robby and winning
Hawks entire story arc in the show is like a hawk taking its first flight. Three hawk must first jump, a big contrast to what they were doing before, standing and waiting. They then drive down, going faster and faster till the begin to flap their wings. Finally the hawk soars up further than it has ever been.
I was hoping they went for Hawk winning the All Valley after he joined Myagi Do at the end of season 3. His arc was the best in the series. How do you all feel about the redemption of Kreese? Personally, I kinda don't like it. Kreese is just so good as a bad guy, that I think he would be wasted as a good guy sensei. I get that in his old age he probably got more somber or soft, but in season 3 he was so diabolical, and I loved that about him, that this change of mind seems to come out of nowhere. He was ready to kill Daniel and Johnny for Christ's sake. So I actually don't want him to turn "good". I actually want him to be more evil, because Martin Kove is just amazing when he is playing an evil Kreese.
i think a good way to keep his evil charm would be by making him an anti villian, have him help defeat silver and barnes, but still do it in his kreese way
Looks like they want to do to Kreese, what was done with Sato. Sato wanted to kill Miyagi. They softened him in one movie rather quick based on the Okinawan storm emergency situation , they will do this with Kreese more gradually.
A chaotic neutral Kreese would be fun. I mainly like how he is more for "caring" towards Tory than the other Cobras probably because he was in a similar situation (his mother and girlfriend)
Eli winning was literally the only happy thing at the end. Other than that, total L for everyone but Silver. But I know it's just the set up for Cobra Kai to fall. The pride always comes before the fall.
I may stan Miguel, but I LOVED what they did with Hawk. His redemption arc PROVES a 'bad' character can change and course-correct - which is what Johnny (and likely Kreese, after what Silver did to him) are striving for. I've always had a soft spot toward 'villain' characters, specifically villains with hints of goodness in them yet turned corrupted due to trauma or unfortunate circumstances (Star Wars' Darth Vader, Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth, Devil May Cry's Vergil). I realized my appreciation for these characters came down to them being more relatable to the average person. We all make mistakes. We all are susceptible to fear, anger, and jealously. While the story of the Hero tells us what we SHOULD do, many of us don't. I think the story of 'villains' or anti-heroes being redeemed is more important for today's audience - through them we realize it's possible to put our lives together when things drift badly. Hawks' story arc nails this to a T. Through him, we realize it's never too late to change. Even if it's an uphill battle, like Hawk, if we fight to become the Change we want, then we become changed.
Hawk had a great storyline this past season, but I hate how there were some folks that were so upset with the way he treated Kenny to the point that they actually cheered CK on during the scene where they shaved his mohawk. It especially blew my mind that they even cheered Kyler on despite the fact that he bullied Hawk and has been straight up unlikeable since the start of the show.
I wish Eli/Hawk faced more repercussions in the season for all of the terrible things he did in Season 2 and 3. His arc just seemed a little rushed, especially with how easily forgiven he was after the first episode. Losing the Mohawk does not make up for being an asshole two seasons.
I just finished watching Cobra Kai S4 and Ghostbusters: Afterlife - both are films connected to fan fave 80s movies. After watching Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I asked myself - why did I not like it despite the fan service, the cameos, the Harold Raimi tribute. Then I realized that it's a half baked nostalgia, you got the OGs to appear - but they aren't integral to the story - they just popped there without a big relevance to the overall story. Like the Star Wars sequels - they even did Egon dirty (like they did with Luke) - Egon was a brilliant man and he won't gung-ho just like that. That is why I'm amazed at the Cobra Kai writers - they did the OGs right, while actually making you care about almost every character. Heck, even in the latest season they made you root for Robbie and Tory... and even Kreese. Now that's brilliant writing. I hope it only lasts up to 6 seasons at the most - because any longer, and that might be the show's downfall.

I'm not too fussed on that man. I like that it puts more weight on Miguel still recovering, I like that it maintains Miguel as the OG and the best (Miguel > Robby/Hawk) and if you notice, Eli gets up and dodges it (watch when Miguel's back cracks and you'll see Eli is standing and moves his head back to miss it) so it wouldn't have got him anyway, meaning Eli would have continued 0-0 with Miguel.

@@MoreCovers Yeah man you're not wrong at all. While Miguel is the OG, people forget that he consistently hurt Robbie's injury over and over again every chance he got including cheating. Even at the end he hit the weak spot to get the final point after catching Robbie's leg. With how Robbie was injured, still got 2 points and did that Miyagi double kick, I'd say he and Miguel were around even in Season 1. It's Season 2 where Miguel was better than Robbie and in his prime. But like you say, people are still sleeping on Hawk. The point is now that Eli has found balance, in himself as Eli and the confidence of the Hawk, and has begun to find balance in Cobra Kai techniques and Miyagi-Do, although he did have to go back to Cobra Kai in the tournament. People are missing how Eli stopped at the buzzer while Robbie guarded after, which means he would have gotten outpointed. He and Robbie are absolute equals but I do still feel Miguel is that bit better than both.

My teacher watched season 4 and kinda hated on it. And made fun of Hawk and how he lost confidence because of Mohawk. I wanted to explain it but another student also started hating on Hawk and i felt like not even trying.

Tbf Hawk was also a top tier of the kids for a while, just like one of the weakest top tiers, so that probably explains it
To be honest hawk was kinda like the main character of season 4 yeah they focused on Robby and Miguel but hawk was the center character as he went from bully to compassionate character and his true self and when he becomes his true self he grows stronger and manages to defeat Robby. Hawk is my favorite character in the show and I loved season 4 not only because of hawks storyline but this season defined Samantha as a character because of Johnny, I didn’t like Sam before season 4 but now she is probably one of my favorite characters
Honestly Eli was more relevant to the series when he was Hawk. His redemption arc was never the main plot of an episode and he was forgiven way too quick. When it comes to character development, it was his best season but he was never the main character in any episode.
Sam was more of the center character than Eli since her main plots revolved around Daniel and Johnny, along with her being a support character for Tory. The main characters for the teen characters are Miguel, Sam, Robby, and now Tory.
Hawk/Eli is my favourite character from this series. He has the best arc. Just perfect

Hawk needed that tournament win the most out of any character. I'm glad that they even kept Robby looking super strong. My two favorite characters having an epic duel in the finals. I was so happy.

Hawks entire story arc in the show is like a hawk taking its first flight. Three hawk must first jump, a big contrast to what they were doing before, standing and waiting. They then drive down, going faster and faster till the begin to flap their wings. Finally the hawk soars up further than it has ever been.
I was hoping they went for Hawk winning the All Valley after he joined Myagi Do at the end of season 3. His arc was the best in the series. How do you all feel about the redemption of Kreese? Personally, I kinda don't like it. Kreese is just so good as a bad guy, that I think he would be wasted as a good guy sensei. I get that in his old age he probably got more somber or soft, but in season 3 he was so diabolical, and I loved that about him, that this change of mind seems to come out of nowhere. He was ready to kill Daniel and Johnny for Christ's sake. So I actually don't want him to turn "good". I actually want him to be more evil, because Martin Kove is just amazing when he is playing an evil Kreese.
i think a good way to keep his evil charm would be by making him an anti villian, have him help defeat silver and barnes, but still do it in his kreese way

Looks like they want to do to Kreese, what was done with Sato. Sato wanted to kill Miyagi. They softened him in one movie rather quick based on the Okinawan storm emergency situation , they will do this with Kreese more gradually.
A chaotic neutral Kreese would be fun. I mainly like how he is more for "caring" towards Tory than the other Cobras probably because he was in a similar situation (his mother and girlfriend)
Eli winning was literally the only happy thing at the end. Other than that, total L for everyone but Silver. But I know it's just the set up for Cobra Kai to fall. The pride always comes before the fall.

I may stan Miguel, but I LOVED what they did with Hawk. His redemption arc PROVES a 'bad' character can change and course-correct - which is what Johnny (and likely Kreese, after what Silver did to him) are striving for. I've always had a soft spot toward 'villain' characters, specifically villains with hints of goodness in them yet turned corrupted due to trauma or unfortunate circumstances (Star Wars' Darth Vader, Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth, Devil May Cry's Vergil). I realized my appreciation for these characters came down to them being more relatable to the average person. We all make mistakes. We all are susceptible to fear, anger, and jealously. While the story of the Hero tells us what we SHOULD do, many of us don't. I think the story of 'villains' or anti-heroes being redeemed is more important for today's audience - through them we realize it's possible to put our lives together when things drift badly. Hawks' story arc nails this to a T. Through him, we realize it's never too late to change. Even if it's an uphill battle, like Hawk, if we fight to become the Change we want, then we become changed.

Hawk had a great storyline this past season, but I hate how there were some folks that were so upset with the way he treated Kenny to the point that they actually cheered CK on during the scene where they shaved his mohawk. It especially blew my mind that they even cheered Kyler on despite the fact that he bullied Hawk and has been straight up unlikeable since the start of the show.
He is simultaneously the most over the top and realistic character on the show.
I wish Eli/Hawk faced more repercussions in the season for all of the terrible things he did in Season 2 and 3. His arc just seemed a little rushed, especially with how easily forgiven he was after the first episode. Losing the Mohawk does not make up for being an asshole two seasons.
I just finished watching Cobra Kai S4 and Ghostbusters: Afterlife - both are films connected to fan fave 80s movies.
After watching Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I asked myself - why did I not like it despite the fan service, the cameos, the Harold Raimi tribute.
Then I realized that it's a half baked nostalgia, you got the OGs to appear - but they aren't integral to the story - they just popped there without a big relevance to the overall story.
Like the Star Wars sequels - they even did Egon dirty (like they did with Luke) - Egon was a brilliant man and he won't gung-ho just like that.
That is why I'm amazed at the Cobra Kai writers - they did the OGs right, while actually making you care about almost every character. Heck, even in the latest season they made you root for Robbie and Tory... and even Kreese. Now that's brilliant writing. I hope it only lasts up to 6 seasons at the most - because any longer, and that might be the show's downfall.

I read the title as How Cobra Kai Season 4 Shaved Hawk, and was like "Well it's pretty straightforward..."
The only problem I had was Miguel getting hurt. Like Hawk won the men's, but it was cheap because they had to protect Miguel.
I'm not too fussed on that man. I like that it puts more weight on Miguel still recovering, I like that it maintains Miguel as the OG and the best (Miguel > Robby/Hawk) and if you notice, Eli gets up and dodges it (watch when Miguel's back cracks and you'll see Eli is standing and moves his head back to miss it) so it wouldn't have got him anyway, meaning Eli would have continued 0-0 with Miguel.
I dont think it was cheap at all given that Robbie lost to Miguel in the previous tournament cause he was hurt (Robbie) and Miguel kinda cheated on that time. So, honestly, Hawk has all the merit he deserves for wining that fight.

@@MoreCovers Yeah man you're not wrong at all. While Miguel is the OG, people forget that he consistently hurt Robbie's injury over and over again every chance he got including cheating. Even at the end he hit the weak spot to get the final point after catching Robbie's leg. With how Robbie was injured, still got 2 points and did that Miyagi double kick, I'd say he and Miguel were around even in Season 1. It's Season 2 where Miguel was better than Robbie and in his prime. But like you say, people are still sleeping on Hawk. The point is now that Eli has found balance, in himself as Eli and the confidence of the Hawk, and has begun to find balance in Cobra Kai techniques and Miyagi-Do, although he did have to go back to Cobra Kai in the tournament. People are missing how Eli stopped at the buzzer while Robbie guarded after, which means he would have gotten outpointed. He and Robbie are absolute equals but I do still feel Miguel is that bit better than both.

My teacher watched season 4 and kinda hated on it. And made fun of Hawk and how he lost confidence because of Mohawk. I wanted to explain it but another student also started hating on Hawk and i felt like not even trying.
He never really needed to be *saved* that was just his character arc. His character has been consistently well written since season 1.
I haven't fully forgave Hawk for stealing that Medal of Honor. Some things in life are sacred and you NEVER disrespect. You gotta go through hell and back to earn that John should of made Hawk turn it in he should know better being Special Forces.

He gets a tiny mohawk then his tall spiky one and in season 5 it’s tiny and not spiky his mohawk color is green in episode 8 and episodes 9-10 it’s blue again in episode 10 when you see the front of his mohawk it looks talker
