I mean it's far more accurate and maintains more energy at long range, but my point stands. It weighs about as much as a .45 and goes about as fast, and recoils about the same. It's simple physics. Subsonic 300 blk is literally only as effective on target as pistol cartridges. It has a massive advantage in accuracy and power at distances beyond 100m or so though - this is its only niche. And being able to run supersonic ammo in the same gun I guess. And maybe armor penetration but I'm not up to date on all the fancy loads that exist and how they compare. For example, I know there's plenty of even 9mm that will penetrate IIIa these days

.300blackout is the superior close range cartridge. That is absolutely a fact. And the Sig Rattler is one of if not the best .300blk firearm, especially when paired with one of Sig’s new laser sintered SL series of flow through suppressors that eliminates gas in the face. I absolutely love mine, it’s definitely my favorite gun and cartridge by far. I got more .300blk guns that any other caliber, from 110gr Vmax supersonic rounds for defense, or 150grn Federal Fusion for hunting, or 200gr all copper subsonic rounds for either application of hunting quietly or defending one’s self in say your house and you don’t want to blow your eardrums out. The .300blk can do it all.

The 7.62x35 aka .300blk cartridge uses pistol powder making it far more efficient in shorter barrels, it also can use a wider range of subsonic bullets. .300blk > 7.62x39 I have no desire for that commie .30 cal when I can have sweet American goodness, and if I want to step it up to a 16in or longer barrel for power/range I’ll just go with 7.62x51 aka 7.62 NATO. And when both your close range and full power battle rifle .30 caliber rounds exist one just doesn’t need 7.62x39 at all.
They also made it so all the LT handguards and barrels are interchangeable on the Rattler LT so you could put a 16” 5.56 barrel and handguard into a Rattler upper or vice versa.

This Sig…Santa is getting a late item to my list! Very cool!
They should add .338 spectre . It's 90% the 8.6 blk with the .223 oal. It uses necked down 10mm mag or cut down 6.8 spc cases . It's super sonic loads can best .30-30 wcf 170gran loads. It is able to get 1moa or better accuracy , it takes 300+ grainers for subsonic use still at .223 rem oal. A conversion requires a 6.8 spc bolt, magazine ( for high capacity ) and a .338 spectre barrel. Plus the pressure curve is designed around a 16 inch barrel meaning very good sbr efficiency . It's another Marty Ter Weeme cartidge .he made the .458 socom when working with tromix . .458 socom would also be a great chambering for the rattler . MWG makes 90 round .223 rem snail drums that hold and feed 28 socom rounds .

A whole bunch of the 187 gemtechs and 120 grain sig solid copper 120gr

Check out the Scottsdale PD shooting from this past November. The bad guy was wearing what it looked like 3A armor and the detectives were using MCX in 300 Blackout what sounded like sub rounds. Pretty sure they were 300 or the got some really quite 556 rounds.

If you build your own it can be pretty inexpensive or very premium but buying parts over time. AAC amunition from palmettostatearmory is pretty reasonable priced at about the same as good 556
I'll have to check the velocity numbers but a 6.75 barrel seems like it would be a decent amount better for supers, and also allow a little bit more length to burn the pistol powder for subsonic rounds
Do you still have to use Sig silencers, or do you still have to spend 400 dollars on a barrel to put in it. I’ve got 3 CMMG Dissents and I’m pleased with all of them with silencers on them. I like them better than any Sig Rattler I’ve shot. Got 300 blk out, 9mm and 16 inch 6 arc.
I’ve owned both. It really comes down to if you want slightly better ballistics and rail space or do you want something that’s slightly more compact? Both are great choices
Ok. I have 3 MCX rifles. One Virtus, one Rattler and one Spear LT, all SBR'd. I never bought an original MCX because i honestly thought it was kind of meh. Plus the ones i shot had some reliability issues so it turned me off. Luckily the Virtus proved to be a great investment. Honestly, as much as I love my Spear LT, it kind of was a waste of money in the bigger picture. The Virtus is perfectly fine and the new, very few features of the Spear LT is just a gimmick, doesn't really make it any better than the Virtus. And that's how I feel about this new Rattler LT. Why spend another 2700 when I already have a second gen Rattler that once again, is not really any different than the new LT version? I love Sig, but they are kind of turning into Glock with the MCX platform, relatively the same gun over and over with no real change that can be considered a real improvement from the last except at much greater cost. The Virtus at least had some massive improvements from the original MCX. Can't really say the same about the LT line.

The sig uses a 1:5 twist vs 1:8 twist barrel on thd Jakl. The reason I haven't jumped on the Jakl is because they use a 1:8 barrel. 1:5 to 7 is the range I choose.
Ballistically 300blk is suboptimal for price of ammo and availability when compared to 77gr 5.56. It’s also entirely misleading the way it’s represented as being whisper quiet. After two shots with 300blk subs out of my first 8” build I’m done with it

SMG doesn't necessarily mean pistol cartridge. The US called a folded stock M14 a "SMG". The StG44 was considered to be a SMG initially. The South Koreans adopted the 5.56 K1 as a "SMG". So, it's less based on the cartridge type and based more on the size, configuration and application.

Why is the 300 can the longest of the Sig Cans?
Just my guess but because 300 blk rifles have very short barrels, they made the cans extra long for maximum db reductuon.
