Why are so many people blaming the horse and handlers? The horse is clearly still in training, as there is someone on the ground. They are fully hi-vised up. A lot of riders don't like being on the road (I wonder why.), But do need to as they cannot reach a bridleway or hacking route any other way. It seems like people forget horses are trained by exposure, and are prey animals with a flight response. The driver should not of floored it and sped by. It is the law to pass wide and SLOW around horses to avoid accidents. The highway code exists not just for the horse's safety, but your own too. I have seen a horse get spooked at a speeding car and flip on top of it. Both rider and driver were sent to hospital, and the horse had to be put down due to the injuries he gained. The horse was 4 years old and in training on a usually quiet road which the driver would've certainly seen us, as it's basically a straight line. I'm glad I was there that day. I was walking a little shetland in front of them. I turned around and the horse, Jep, was too far for me to help. By the time I moved, Jep was already on the goddamn car, his rider completely unconscious and the driver cussing like a sailor. I'm glad that 12 year old me also had an adult with me. I didn't really know what was happening until about 3 hours later when I had to tell a cop what happened. TL:DNR; Drive wide and SLOW around horses. It can cost not just their life, but your own. It's not their fault by being scared of your action.

This horse should have been more road worthy. I know, that’s hard. It’s like don’t work unless you have experience. I have been riding horses for 6 decades and some simply never get used to traffic. Bicycles are actually worse than cars!! Horse and bike paths are often combined. Joggers like the softer way with horse paths. But first and foremost, have complete and total control over the horse, make him bomb proof somehow. People and bike riders are stupid and don’t care about the horse or it’s rider.
