I have only just discovered your videos and want to say thank you! You appear to be genuinely trying to help others enjoy fishing and catch fish. Other channels often don't explain where they are and may or may not explain rigs and tactics. Thank you again!
My pleasure! I’m here to share the love as much as I can, without stepping on other peoples toes. I had a couple great fishing mentors when I was getting into Fishing again as an adult, and that inspired me to help other people learn to fish better as well.
Thank you for watching and thank you for the positive feedback! I do really enjoy tossing lures for salmon especially Coho especially spinners for coho :)
Man I can't wait for this season try a blue and silver ko wobbler, when everyone else are fishing the same lures I pull that Blue ko wobbler out and get a fish Everytime, or a chartreuse glow spinner.
My pleasure. I hate to see people struggle to learn salmon fishing like I did lol. The key element is definitely time spent on the river, covering ground and experimenting because what works one day it doesn’t always work the next.
@ They’ve all worked for me. I had to retire my first 6’ one piece Ugly Stick thirty years ago we caught so many fish on 6# test, they burnt the ceramic eyelets down! It was a blast..
Little Cleo use to or still do make a glow in the dark one and I’ve caught tons of salmon on them. In daylight and at nite. From piers or rivers as well. As a custom bait painter, I plan on bringing some of my favorite patterns to try in September. Any suggestions as to where to fish from a kayak at? I grew up fishing the Lake Huron side. Now I live in Indiana and the west side is much closer and I hear the salmon fishing is better on the Lake Michigan side
Awesome video man and helpful information. Real quick question about the "Kwikfish" lures, what size do you recommend for smaller rivers like say the betsie river? Also, what is your favorite color/pattern of these? thanks!
The size of the gold one in this video is prefect imo. I’ve caught rainbow trout and coho on that lure in the grand river as well as creeks smaller then the betsie. Color orange and gold or silver with chartruse or pink.
Thanks for this, its really helpful. Gearing up for season and head up for about a week in two weeks. Hoping for favorable (cooler) weather. Do you hit piers/harbors too?
Yea piers and harbors are a bit different but spoons or deeper diving crank baits are good in those situations. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
@@ReelMichiganAnglers yeah I found I really like pier/harbor fishing. Hot fish when you hook up and usually better eating. Curious if you've ever used blade baits for salmon. Gonna give it a try this year
@@jeremykenward3082 so I recently fell in love with blade baits. I’ve been using steelshad blade baits and absolutely destroying Walleye and Pike with them as well as pretty much everything else. I haven’t tried them for salmon yet but I will this fall in the river and I have a feeling I will catch some steel head and choke on them as well.
@@ReelMichiganAnglers yeah pretty much the same. Ive seen them but never really tried them before this summer. Now they're one of my favorite lures! I bought about 50 blanks and I've been cutting and gorilla gluing an egg sinker (1/2- 3/4 oz) to build them out. Haven't tried them yet but I think they're going to work great. If you have success with them in the river, I hope you'll make a video about it!
I like the rattle tots. Same action as a hot n tot, but rattles. Alot of days those rattles make all the difference. Where are you from? I'm in southwest Michigan. St joe area.
Thank you for the feedback! If you’re looking for a good salmon lures I would suggest that you check out the new line of spinners on my website www.reelmichigananglers.com I have been destroying salmon this year and last year on these new designs.
Tabbert, are the hooks on those steelhead slammers within regulation for our “trout streams” or the, well let’s say, little river near sleeping bear where only single hooks are allowed?
eyeballing it probably for the size 4's and im sure the 3's are good but ill have to mesuere causc im hoping to use them in that river this fall :) ill mesure the gap and let you know.
I would say all of that is pretty universal. The biggest difference being water clarity could change your color choice and water depth could change your size choice, but for the most part, the stuff should all be pretty universal for any salmon water.
What I do is when I’m going to the Betsy or the plat I make up a special box of Lewers by removing the stock hooks and replacing them with hooks of legal size for those rivers. It’s kind of a pain but you don’t necessarily have to do it to all the Lewers. Measure the distance between the shank and the point of the hook and as long as it’s not bigger than the maximum size limit you’re good to go if it is replace it with a smaller hook.
@@ReelMichiganAnglers could u help me w what treble hook package number would be a 3/4 I try and look it up and all I see is like a pack of #3 or #5 etc etc no hook packages tell me the messasuremennts from point to the inside.
@@Thody1987 I believe it is different from brand to brand and you may have to message the company to find out. I’m really bad at remembering those kinds of details also so I don’t always remember what kind of hooks I got that one time a year ago and tend to experiment a lot as opposed to having one particular thing that I like to use all of the time in terms of hooks. Last time what I did was remove all of the hooks from the Lewers that I brought and for mepps spinners do you have to cut the hook off and add a split ring. Otherwise just slip them all off and throw them in your box then go to Frankfurt tackle and walk in and ask them for some hooks of regulation size. At Frankfurt tackle they stock owners in the appropriate sizes for the Betsy and the Platte River and they seem to be pretty decent hooks. In the bed so you can use treble hooks but in all honesty I would just go with a single. Go with the biggest size single hook that you can use with both rivers. I’ve been using single hook Lewers for a little while now and I have not found that I miss fish because of the lack of two extra hooks hardly at all especially with big fish like salmon because when they strike the weight of the fish alone will watch that hook somewhere in its mouth. You will get a lot less snags that way as well.
@@ReelMichiganAnglers i been told they are running in southern Michigan. I was kinda thinking they should be in up by high bridge.. God bless hope you have a great season.. love ur info a videos s pal thxs
I like my pfluger president reels and my shamino nasci. As long as the drag is smooth you are good. A slow retrieve typically is best so ratio isn’t that important. 20 lb braid up to 30 for kings. Rod long and somewhat moderate action so the rod fights the fish more than the reel. 8-11 feet heavy action isn’t necessary.

Yes just double check your local regulations to make sure the hooks aren’t too big. They are too big for some designated trout and salmon streams.
