are there still some in the rivers this time of year?
This year there are a few kings in certain rivers plenty of coho in many rivers and steelhead all over the place as of mid November. Coho will still be in certain rivers through February this year in my opinion. Got to know where the late season ones like to go and time it just right or get lucky lol
Where i live you can't fish 100 feet from any dams and some not within 500 or more
Northeast needs major law changes regarding its tributary fishing. RUclips has ruined it.
@@joshawagillis9966 it is my understanding that that law only applies to certain dams in Michigan. I believe 500 feet from a fishing ladder is the rule. I have also talked to DNR officers about this and everyone I’ve talked to has said if you’re not fishing in the ladder they’re not gonna do anything about it.
I know exactly where this is. Real close to home

I've seen several trophy salmon in my river during late summer and late fall. I know what to catch them, and how to lure them in. I use a basic weighted bobber. Then measure 24 inches of line an tie a hook with a baby shad with fish attractant. Ill get bloody tuna to furthher help draw them in. Ive used procure trophy bass. I feel bloody tuna by procure will work better. I used a Berkeley choppo late summer i drew a 12plus lb salmon in it closed in on us. As soon as the salmon saw us, it got spooked and swam off. 😢. It's getting cold, and current is heavy. At dusk, the baby salmon surface in the shallows jumping for forage on the surface of the water. The salmon ive seen are coho and Atlantic salmon. The Atlantic salmon ive seen are truly amazing and very big coho i saw were good size. Ive seen coho late summer. Mark my words ill catch 1 soon. 😊
@@joegrande4848 it’s hard to catch salmon that you can see. Those ones are easily spooked and are moving around or preoccupied spawning generally. Look for dark water you can’t see fish in and use real or fake eggs under a bobber or toss spinners. For Atlantic you can use almost anything. Atlantic salmon eat a large variety of food and unlike all other salmon they continue to eat while they’re in the rivers. They like crayfish minnows eggs bugs so anything that mimics those. The only scent That really matters for salmon fishing is eggs and nothing else really matters to them unless you were fishing lures in which case alewife scent is the best. Good luck. You will get one and then a bunch once you get dialed in.
You know I’ve watched your videos before , sometimes it’s nice to come back , you can catch things you didn’t before, or things may make sense where they didn’t before.. saying all that to say all this.. you’d be a great guide if you ever would feel comfortable! @@justingillis9254 lol I have a terrible habit of losing nets, but I have upgraded Mets like four times since this video lol. As for the ride, I ended up breaking the tip off. Purely my fault no flaw of the rod I had it in a case and didn’t realize the tip was sticking out and accidentally snapped the tip right off when I set it down. That hasn’t stopped me from using it. I turned it into my back up catfish rod and an after breaking It have landed a 30 pound flathead as well as some other beasts. My review is about the same salad rod not the best for float fishing, but would be great for tossing hardware and things like that.

@@Tyler-nj5dr no I almost always use hard beads. I Like soft beads in theory I just never use them lol
Great video. I’m from Niagara and fish the upper Niagara River for steelhead and this video helped a lot! I myself aren’t not a fan of the tapered shot pattern I feel like I’m constantly fixing the shots more than fishing
@@MadeInOntario yep! In rare cases, fish will be line shy when conditions are super clear and the water is low. Otherwise, bulk shot is the way to go. We are going to have tungsten in line sinkers on our website soon which will be smaller and more subtle and more effective!
Yeah Ive officially given up on steelhead/salmon fishing in lower MI this year. I don’t know how many times I can watch everyone go home with dinner when I fished the SAME baits SAME spots at the SAME times and still nothing. If I’m not further north there is simply no point. Crank baits, jigs, skein sacks, spoons, spinners, jerk baits NOTHING is enticing these fish enough to bite very rarely I catch them even chasing it. I did better on the P.M fishing sinking flies, even then that was challenging to get them to bite. I have never seen deer hunting as something actually being EASIER than seeking out these game fish.
@@Bigbuckdown1776 the conditions sucked this fall but everything is behind so there are still some salmon and now the steelhead are rolling in. Don’t give up! I used to be the worst steelhead and salmon fisherman around lol
