Bruce Gassler, the man who sculpted the head, was a Vietnam veteran who passed away in 2014 due to Cholangiocarcinoma. This type of cancer is often linked to those who served in Vietnam. For more information on Cholangiocarcinoma and Vietnam veterans who have been diagnosed with this cancer, please visit the link in the video description.
Goid job. Was just going to type this.👍👍👍 It almost looks like a sculpture of him, so maybe he did it in high school, after he knew that he was going to join the army. Are you going to reach out to his family re: it?
Wow! I haven’t heard of this type of cancer, but I know there are a lot of health issues caused by Agent Orange. My brother is a blue water Vietnam Vet and I’m pushing him to check into the Blue Water Act of 2019. Not only did those poor young sailors breath that crap, but the blue water sailors drank the “purified” water contaminated with Agent Orange. A lot of this stuff I’m just hearing/learning about now. I was only 6 or 7 when my brother joined the navy. That sculpture is special and belongs with someone like you who can appreciate it. Great find Renee.
I love the statue. It's very cool looking. I hate to be a fun sponge but that cancer is rare however it can not definitely be linked to Agent Orange. It's bial duct cancer. Almost never diagnosed early because it is asymptomatic. I was diagnosed 1 month ago which is also rare because it's a small percentage of females get it. The great, late Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears died of it in 1999. Sorry I love your channel and love your passion for paper and ephemera! I have an awesome collection I will have to share with you because I use it on junk journals but will never use all I have. Lastly, you can scan anything prior to 1922 I believe as far as copyright laws!
That bust is awesome...BUT then to read your comment about what you found out about the man who made it makes it so much more special!!! If you do repair it, please share it with all of us.
I like it too. Who ever made that did have a good eye. Shame on the damage, but this piece served hard and got beat around. Bumps and bruise go with the theme
I'd like to see the video of an old car restoration on Paper and Moose, particularly the part where Renee rebuilds the engine. Yes, it's not what you do, but you can dream....
Unfortunately I just can't seem to work up an appreciation for old vehicles. When you said it would be great to take to the beach my mind immediately visualized you driving a wrecker down the beach with that thing loaded on the back. That brought a smile to my day! Thanks for making these videos. I enjoy them so much.
That bust of the soldier would be nice if you wanted to give it to a Veterans Memorial Center. We have one near where I live. Thank you for "saving" it. I think it is very interesting and well done.
Yesterday I saw a beautiful GREEN rag top convertible VW Bug. It was beautiful. I don't know what year it was but I immediately thought of you and wished I could have at least got you a photo. Someone had either just purchased it or was delivering it to someone. It was being pulled on a trailer..♥️♥️
The Vietnam soldier statue brought tears to my. I'm so glad you got it ❤️😁😁😁😊😊😊😊 I hope you can repair it and restore i thanks for buying it it could have went to the field..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amen
Left my comment before I saw your last purchase! That's really cool - especially since it is from the Vietnam era (and when I was born). You are definitely eclectic my dear :)
That first car was really cool. You'd be the Belle of the ball driving that to flea markets. I like the guy with the helmet broken like that. Makes it look like he was wounded in battle. That was a nice auction
Good morning from an old lady in Richmond Virginia my best memories go up in Camden New Jersey Hammonton I love the people there and unfortunately I had to leave to come to Virginia during my sophomore year devastating and my mother still apologizes for that Mist important years junior and senior year I cried a lot lol The reason why I mention is that I love your dedication to your high school we used to do that when I was in New Jersey and I will find you some great paper I’ve been looking
Auctions are like boxes of chocolate...lol I hate to leave old sheet music behind but I have so much that I've rescued in my "crafts" room waiting to be repurposed that I think I could open a music store... So much stuff to look through - how fun! Love those odds n ends boxes - you never know what they're gonna throw in there.. Thanks for sharing. Lisa & Rob
I am with you on VWs...I had a 1965 Bug. Great car...when dad bought it, we had to have it ordered from Germany and picked up from the Port with a bill of lading. Wish I would have kept the stacks of paper regarding the sale...
You done well renee Loved that card with the fox on it thumbs up for looking after my favourite guy Taco he is fandabitastic lol Its amazing what's in old papers etc Take care x
I'm really interested in the wonder bread ruler. My dad drove the delivery truck for wonder bread and one day each summer, the older of his 9 kids got to go on his route with him. Seeing that ruler brought back great memories of my early teen years. Let me know in the reply section of this comment what you'd sell it/them for. Thanks for another great video!
Hello Renee. I like the bust, head sculpture. It's different. I kind of thought it looked like a German soldier. But it's really cool. Have a great evening.🌸🌸💕💕🍄🍄💕💕📷📷
That little wagon was manufactured by the Powell Crosley Corp. They also made and marketed radios and phonographs. Along with the Austin...it was the first mini-compact vehicle. The one for auction is from the late 40's, very early 50's. They were quite "cute". Quite a large quantity of interesting ephemera! That old calendar clock dial was neat...I have one of those clocks...keeps track of the date...pointer clicks to the next day date at 12 midnight. We don't have these auctions here...did years ago...but these businesses are long gone...personally, i never really could warm up to auctions. Ops, I thought that terra cotta area on his helmet was part of the design...until you fitted the missing piece in...I think he looks more interesting without that piece!! He reminds me of a German Storm Trooper! Really like those import/export mags...my type of stuff!
I could see you putting around in a Crosley...one thing, the cargo space would keep one from purchasing large items...or over-purchasing more than one needs!
Wonder if the bell fitted the hand, like used by a Salvation Army bellringer at their kettles during Christmas? You forgot your hashtags above your video title. You Tube does use them to push your videos out. Soldier, Vietnam, veterans, sculpture might draw in some new viewers.
That soldier head looks so familiar. Like I have seen it on a statue somewhere. I also loved that vintage suv and was really hoping you would get the box with the autographs
I just checked obituaries for a Bruce Gessler and two come up in Philadelphia, PA . One senior and a son , junior. Try researching obits and you should get more info. Good luck
Great finds!! The paper ephemera is so cool!! I love grabbag boxes too!! Fun!! I see an assembledge project in your future!! Great content. Love the scarf! Did you make it? 💖
Thank you for the video, I also liked the cars. I have a vintage SUV, a 1985 Toyota BJ60 Landcruiser. Its a diesel, never sold in the US. I imported it from Vancouver, BC. I drive it often
Another great video! Looked like an interesting auction, the VW was a ‘71 or 72 I had a 72 that same color. I’ve probably had over 20 VWs over the years. Drove around the country in ‘65 camper when I was a kid, who would ever have thought they would be worth what they are now? The head was pretty Neato , I would have bought it. I sort of collect heads, put them out front of my house. Have some plaster ones that sort of melted in the rain, good look I think. I went to my weekly auction today, they had lots of stuff. Bunch of knives including some good ones. I put up a couple and somehow the auctioneer missed my bid! They sold for $50, I could have gotten $300 plus for them...I was not happy Bought a Victorian Parasol that was pretty nice. Had a special auction on military items and ammunition, I bought a bunch of ammo probably 3,000 rounds, prices was good. Should have bought more never know when the zombie apocalypse will start ! 😃
@12:25, the dark haired Barbie looks a lot like the 1960s vintage bubble haired Barbie, but mine is blonds. As far as I know, it was the @2nd hairstyle Barbie had
Just curious, what do you do with the paper? Do you keep it, sell it? I think it’s a very interesting collection to have. I’ve become more appreciative and Interested in paper since watching your channel. I think you have a very Sharp eye for finding a variety of vintage items.
Thank you Janice! As for the paper, I keep some and sell some. I keep what I find interesting and anything that is local history or items I can use in my décor.
That car! I was really hoping you were going to say that you bought it. Lol! What was the make and model? I'm glad you rescued the soldier, especially after reading about him in your comment. I've never been to an auction, but have wanted to forever. I just need spare cash. Lol
The car was a Crosley Super (reminds me of the car Cousin Itt had in Addams; Family). The cars are going up at another auction... would love to buy the green one, but no funds to restore it!
I do work with paper in my day job, but totally different field. (Records documentation and archiving coordinator). Would love to search for paper full time and hoping to do that soon!
Initially I had been looking with the first name of Bill, no idea why. But yes, I added the note in my description that he was a Vietnam veteran who passed away due to a rare cancer (most likely caused by his service in Vietnam).

So sad about the cancer. We lost our daughter 3 years ago to cancer. She just started her Forty's. Miss her
That bust is awesome...BUT then to read your comment about what you found out about the man who made it makes it so much more special!!! If you do repair it, please share it with all of us.
For $3 you bought a beautiful story. It is also a very mid century modern vibe. I also see it as a bookcase decor piece.
It is sort amazing!
Would love to see a tour of your home decorated for Easter.
I like it too. Who ever made that did have a good eye. Shame on the damage, but this piece served hard and got beat around. Bumps and bruise go with the theme
I think the soldier is wonderful! Very stark and I think the wear and imperfections add to its appeal. Great scores!

Good call on the soldier Renee. Who knows a family member may just want it. Love the old ads!

The military head has merit and will have a decent value to the right person .

I would never have thought you would buy the sculpture. I am delighted, I love the reverence with which you held it.
Love the old cars at the first!! 1989 was a great year- it was the year that I graduated high school ❤ love the vintage advertising.
The old McCall magazines used to have paper dolls in them. I think mine are in the basement.
Awesome finds
Very interesting, especially about vietnam-related cancers. Tell us if you learn more about the veteran.
I like how you had this divided up between auction footage and haul.
Awe you have such a great heart❤️❤️❤️
Land field the statue ... Thanks for saving it 👍😘😘😘
I recognize Taco Stack's Hawaain shirt and his sneakers!
Love the sculpture. 😎😎😎

I wish I was that talented to make my scarf, sadly no, it is store bought.
@@PaperandMoose It is very pretty! Cozy!!!

I thought I spied a McCall's magazine in your box with the Life magazines. If so, great find! I'm envious.
I noticed that too. Potentially could pay for everything purchased!
Always an adventure glad to see the vids!
Omg the car’s are so cool 😎 and they have the love bug .
I. WANT. THAT. CAR!!
Another great video!

That zombie apocalypse... I watched a few episodes of The Walking Dead here and there. I probably wouldn't do too well if we were overrun by zombies!
Love the military head. What did you end up doing with it?
Very Nice Car...☺
Put the missing bit in and the gaps fill in with a filler and spray it black or whatever colour you like
You can have one car for work and the market and the other for chilling in 😎
Cool cars! Love the import&export add papers, seems to be a lot of German export companies adds on those. Exiting action Renee.
@12:25, the dark haired Barbie looks a lot like the 1960s vintage bubble haired Barbie, but mine is blonds. As far as I know, it was the @2nd hairstyle Barbie had
I'm 66 y/o and still own my 1963 blonde bubble haired Barbie!
Just curious, what do you do with the paper? Do you keep it, sell it?

The head could be Bruce himself. Check the Archives for a soldier with that name......!
Too bad you didn't get the autograph books
Is your day job dealing with publication or paper industry as you search for paper items part-time?
I do work with paper in my day job, but totally different field. (Records documentation and archiving coordinator). Would love to search for paper full time and hoping to do that soon!
I have a 1974 bug.
Did a quick google... a gentleman by the name on head sculpture popped up first.. Deceased...Easton , PA ..Vietnam war.... Hmmm
Yes, initially I was looking up a Bill not a Bruce. But you are correct - he was a Vietnam veteran who passed away due to a rare form of cancer.
It's a matter of taste, I would repair the broken helmet and leave it ruff. It's over fifty let him show his age I like it.
was that blood running down the back of the back seats.
In the car? No, it was just the seat material.
Is Taco Stacks in your area? He’s also mentioned giving you vintage paper.
Yes, we are somewhat in the same area (NJ/PA).
Boy scout belt.........cub scout belts are blue
What is the name of your ETSY shop?
If you search for Paper and Moose in shop names, you will find me. The link is also in the video description.
Love your scarf 🧣 Did you make it?
No, store bought. I wish I was talented in the knitting/crocheting area!
I bet you would like this site about rescuing older cars trucks and vans. It’s TURNIN RUST. 💕👍🏻🙏💕
🦊♥️
Cars today are built to run 250,000 miles, if properly taken care of
Gas mileage wasn't good though, and for the 80 mile commute to my current job, I'd be filling up my old VW every other day.
👍
Do you buy the paper for resell or do you keep it?
I keep some and sell the rest, just all depends on the subject matter and my interest in it.
A Great Find 😇🇮🇱🇺🇸
Only to redo those cars.
Google Bruce Gassler obituary
Initially I had been looking with the first name of Bill, no idea why. But yes, I added the note in my description that he was a Vietnam veteran who passed away due to a rare cancer (most likely caused by his service in Vietnam).

What was the soldier made of?
It's a clay piece, not sure what type of clay though.
Looks german
