In my experience the Japanese design and build the best tankers in the world. Standard Dual systems mean there is always an alternative. Do some line tracing, Sean. You will be astonished.

Yes! Their ship building skills have high standards even though the ship is under budget. Problems only occur once in a while.

We had apprentices on board. They were growing boys and ALWAYS hungry. The cooks left food in the pantry for the 4AM watch keepers but it was no use. When I got there the pantry was bare. Next day was Sunday, and all hell was let loose. The Indian cook had unlocked the meat room and threw his arms up in horror. Before him on the table rested the large boney rib cage of a freshly cooked chicken with not one gram of meat remaining. Apparently our Captain had quietly arranged this for his own Sunday lunch. The ref door was securely locked. Someone had lifted the fridge door clean off its pintles, and swung it open. Much later, after quiet confidential enquiry I learned that it was not intended to steal the chicken. The apprentices took just a little bit from underneath. Maybe it would not be noticed? But after a while it was evident that too much had gone and it tasted delicious.......

In the seventies each Texaco tanker or product carrier had a Marconi radio operator. We also had a board electrician.
