One of the largest tech channels out there is actively promoting the app, showcasing it in every video, and personally taking the brunt of the negative feedback when the public doesn’t appreciate something. He should receive a 50% share. It’s as if the world expects everyone to be free, and if you dare to open a business for profit, you’re somehow a villain.

I watched vids from creators in a quality that led me to believe that they must be some very well known huge creator, only to discover them having like 3 thousand subscribers. Everyone who gets known and rich at some point either quits the business before loosing their integrity, or they do loose it in front of the camera.
One of the questions I have is why does he feel the need to do this? He is already rich. It is not like he is desperate for money or what not. Why did he even think of making extra money off his fans with a subpar product at best and a scam at worst? This is very uncharacteristic of MKBHD. I am deeply disappointed in his decision-making.

I’ve been working in React Native for about 4 years. I’m primarily a backend developer so I’m not very good at it. I think I could crank out a better app in a week or two.
If you pay 50 dollars a year and it’s a 50/50 split between artists that means that they are getting like 25 dollars. I think most people are just better off getting patreon of other small artists that do wallapapers. You are probably spending less and giving more support to artists.

My problem with this is not even the pricing it is that he thought make an app when he could have just shown people where he got his wallpapers. Walli is an app and suspiciously similar to the panels app especially with all that permissions. There is literally no need to gate-keep this.
1080p is plenty for a phone. That's nearly 300ppi on the largest phones. You're not going to notice a meaningful difference from their 500ppi counterpart.
Should have sold each wallpaper for 0,5-1 dollar a piece. Simple as that. I would totally buy one myself occasionally. But instead, he made a fool of himself. He criticize products often. Now he’s getting some critizism of his own.

I know that 4K is getting more prevalent, but 1080p is full HD and more than enough for a phone wallpaper, I don't know why they call it SD. And It won't look pixelated. I can already do this for free with iOS. Push and hold screen during lock mode and it zooms out to a bunch of custom pallets and wallpaper and colored themed setups, and then boom, you got your mood and vibe ready to rock. This is a money making scam

1. Samsung gives you loads of wallpaper for free. 2. Windows provides wallpapers regularly and they are actually from actual creators and not AI generated. 3. Anyone can get loads of free wallpaper from Pinterest and set your phone to change regularly. 4. There are even apps that allow you download high quality images and have several categories from cartoon characters and anime, to nature and animals. Honestly, MKBHD messed this up big time. It's wild.
Also, if u pay 50$ you should get nit only usual picture walpapers but also live wallpapers that are really high quality. Or interactive ones (like the planets wallpaper in iPhones with smooth beautiful animation) [although idk whether the animation thing is open source, its apple lol, and whether they can create sth like that]
People always put these influencers on a pedestal. People need to remember that influencers like MKBHD are tech reviewers for a REASON! There’s a reason he’s a tech reviewer and not a software developer, product manager or product designer. It’s because he has no skills in those areas. I have backdrops pro version and for what i paid for it, its definitely worth it. New wallpapers and being added every now and then and it has loads of variety. But mkbhd screwed up on execution part. I understand that there are costs to cover like google/apple takes a cut apart from the creators themselves but subscription based for a wallpaper app was not the way to go. I mean i wouldn't mind paying if it was a one off thing.

1080p is plenty for a phone. That's nearly 300ppi on the largest phones. You're not going to notice a meaningful difference from their 500ppi counterpart.
Should have sold each wallpaper for 0,5-1 dollar a piece. Simple as that. I would totally buy one myself occasionally.

All I have been seeing are them trying to review the iphone 16 trying desperately to fill a 15-minute video reviewing a phone with basically the same features as the last one. Even MKBHD s review wad a stretch.
Yeah, I had similar feelings about this. That's why I just focused on the tips for the new iOS 18, because that's where we actually got some significant updates. The new iPhones are simply not ready yet without all the AI stuff they promised but not delivered.
I know that 4K is getting more prevalent, but 1080p is full HD and more than enough for a phone wallpaper, I don't know why they call it SD. And It won't look pixelated. I am watching this video on a 24 inch screen on 1080p and it's not pixelated, so on a 6 inch screen I'm sure it's more than fine. But I guees it's on them, because the app itself call it SD.
Lol the problem is with people who think some RUclipsrs are saints while some are devils, without having met them once. People are people and people are greedy and so on…. Thats just how it is, no point in complaining, dont buy it if you dont like the price

I can already do this for free with iOS. Push and hold screen during lock mode and it zooms out to a bunch of custom pallets and wallpaper and colored themed setups, and then boom, you got your mood and vibe ready to rock. This is a money making scam

I recently got access to the "compare thumbnails" feature and while trying to figure it out I got a bit lazy and ended up using your hand with a smartphone from your thumbnail instead of taking my own picture-definitely not my best move. I just ended the "thumbnail test" and used my original one. As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of your content and sometimes draw inspiration from creators like you, but I know I should’ve gone about it differently. 1. Samsung gives you loads of wallpaper for free.
2. Windows provides wallpapers regularly and they are actually from actual creators and not AI generated.
3. Anyone can get loads of free wallpaper from Pinterest and set your phone to change regularly.
4. There are even apps that allow you download high quality images and have several categories from cartoon characters and anime, to nature and animals.
Honestly, MKBHD messed this up big time. It's wild.
Also, if u pay 50$ you should get nit only usual picture walpapers but also live wallpapers that are really high quality. Or interactive ones (like the planets wallpaper in iPhones with smooth beautiful animation) [although idk whether the animation thing is open source, its apple lol, and whether they can create sth like that]
they cannot create those sorta of things, that API is not open to developers (afaik)

People always put these influencers on a pedestal. People need to remember that influencers like MKBHD are tech reviewers for a REASON! There’s a reason he’s a tech reviewer and not a software developer, product manager or product designer. It’s because he has no skills in those areas. Anyone can review products, not everyone can build them
I have backdrops pro version and for what i paid for it, its definitely worth it. New wallpapers and being added every now and then and it has loads of variety. But mkbhd screwed up on execution part. I understand that there are costs to cover like google/apple takes a cut apart from the creators themselves but subscription based for a wallpaper app was not the way to go. I mean i wouldn't mind paying if it was a one off thing.
