Your first point "that's part of what can happen when you spend a lot of time... other people don't have that context" is a HUGE part of why many businesses struggle with marketing. -marketing manager
Being a developer, I see this all the time from management, in my case, where they just assume that what they want makes sense to everybody and ask for weird products that do not match what end users want 😅
What does that means, if it was true then the app would not have been released the way it is because he reviewed it before? If I was reviewing means that the if that never happened? Cuz if it was facts then he review it = being harsh = not have released for being this price = but that never happened because it released with insane price = then again at what point was it reviewed except just words? 'If I was reviewing' actually that kinda means he didnt, ofc not like literally at all. But im sure it was checked like obv. So this 'if I was reviewing' is just empty??
Probably because you are building something you are going to be bias and you don’t see the flows but he is reviewing the app and he isn’t involved in the app development he wouldn’t have been very nice , this is happen quite often between developers ,when you write a peace of code you have to ask someone else to review those code because you might not see the issue because you are naturally bias ,so his biggest mistake before releasing the app was to not let other people that are not yes men try the app and give an honest opinion about the app ,that would have solved a lot of these issues .

Hey Marques, the reason that RUclips uses a 55/45 split is because Video is incredibly expensive to deliver over the internet. It's also why Twitch is trying to move legacy creators from a 25/75 split to a 40/60 split to eventually a 50/50 split. They are not profitable due to video costs. It's also why they exited the South Korean market entirely (costs to ISP's for data peering). The problem with a Wallpaper app is .. wallpapers aren't that big, they're not costly to serve over the internet and so a 50/50 split doesn't make sense. A 20/80 split (with 80% going to the artists) makes a lot more sense for that reason. I understand why you chose 50/50 based on your experience as a RUclipsr and you thought that would be fair but really this split should be more like the App Store's split (30/70) or an art dealership or an art auction where the vast majority, usually just over two thirds goes to the creator. That's my constructive feedback.
I don’t disagree that the economics are different. OTOH this is more niche, and supporting a developer keeping up with the changes on two platforms (especially looking at you, apple) won’t be that easy. So I wouldn’t be too harsh on this split.
I’m a mobile app developer and I can assure you that hosting 4k images and allowing them to be downloaded by potentially thousands of people can get costly. Then you’re paying two developers which is probably 200k/yr, it can add up.
That makes sense at scale but paying to develop/maintain an app isn't cheap and this is super super niche. A 20% split might not even be enough to pay for maintenance.
Месяц назад+9
I think the MKBHD brand alone is worth 50/50, and if one artist is successful in the app, it will help they build a name outside too.
@@YOitsBA I'm also a developer, it honestly doesn't cost that much no. I can rent servers with 300TB a month data allowances only $40 a month that could handle this. @@kpro8908 i interpreted the criticism as people being sort of insulted at how out of touch the price was. Kind of like how people would be at least taken aback if one local grocery store was selling bananas for like $50 or something. I guess the point is the app is supposed to be more like some museum art sales commission, but it definitely wasn't well marketed since it wasn't recieved like that by the majority of people. The reactions can range from "that's dumb, I'll just never buy that" to "how dare these 1%ers be so out of touch to charge the masses such exuberant prices". Personally I think both reactions are valid.
@@hjc1935 That banana comparison is bonkers logic. It's not a one off price per wallpaper, it's spread across a year, and offers unlimited access to what's in the app. A more accurate comparison would be a year supply of special organic bananas for 50$, where a fair amount of the proceeds go, guaranteed, to the people growing and picking them, though you could also get regular bananas free, but run the risk of the being yoinked from a farmer's field without permission. So yeah, the response from the community was absolutely bonkers. In top of that, many were just plain disrespectful and impatient. Give criticism, but people themselves were out of touch for how to politely and constructively offer feedback, and what constitutes a proportional response to an optional luxury. But it's apparently fun to hop on the outrage train.
I agree that the criticism got out of hand for something that wasn't that big of a deal, but dude does already make a great living out of youtube. He really doesn't need more money. Any money the app might be making should go exclusively to maintaining the app.
After I saw this I decided to give it a shot.
So, why didn’t he review it first or, I don’t know, let others pre-view it first and provide feedback.

Buy a few of those, thats petabytes. Get a CloudFlare Pro or Business plan ($2,400 a year) and cache images with them from your servers and total outlay would be around $4,000 per year and you could serve hundreds of thousands of different images to millions of users a year.
