Making these traps can be life savers. Like you, I use five foot tall wire. You mentioned the woven wire @ 14" apart, to make your trap more sturdy, a sturdy circular brace of some sort tied to here will add strength when hauling the net out if there's fish in the basket. Most people struggle when making the muzzle (funnel). I've yet to find a website or video that illustrates how to make these correctly and I'll keep looking. I prefer two muzzles in my traps. Oh, one last tip: Use a product like "Undercoating In A Can", a tar based product that will coat the wire and prevent rust.

It’s like watching naked and afeared building fish baskets. Never have they caught a fish. The chicken wire one maybe. A big maybe. If Shtf, there are way more productive and quicker ways to catch fish. Even a solar powered fish catcher would be more productive. Now as a barter tool, probably do pretty good. Most people will even believe the woven wood ones work. I’d wouldn’t let them know where I lived cause there would be some very mad people coming back for their goods they traded.

this is not illegal in florida... your allowed one fish trap, but only in freshwater... its illegal in saltwater... you just cant target game fish which all of your pan fish is on the list. i know this, because i spoke with a rep at my district florida fish and wildlife office..., and your name, and address has to be on the trap... great video and tutorial!!!

contreeman yes it is... in the state of florida, its illegal to use in saltwater... but you can use ONE in freshwater like i stated before... i spoke with a game warden for 20 minutes on the topic... it even says it in our yearly regulation brochures that you can pick up at bait shops, and walmart...

Dan Wilson I have taken a can of whole corn. Poked holes in it with a screwdriver and put in the trap. Had good luck with it. But you could also. Take chicken liver, put it in a section of pantyhose. Tie it inside to the top of trap with string. To where it hangs.

to make the funnel: Decide how long [ how far into the basket it will go] your funnel will be. whatever length you decide on will be the radius you will use to make your funnel. let's say you want it 24" take a piece of chicken wire at least twice this length, in this case 48" find the middle of the edge of this piece [ this your center point] and cut a half circle with a radius of 24" when you have the half circle cut, take a string , wrap it around your basket and cut it so you know how far it is around your basket.[ the circumference] starting from one side of your half circle take your string and lay it along the arc of the half circle. [the idea is to make the distance around the half circle match the circumference of the basket] when you get to the end of your string mark that point. cut your half circle from this point to your center point when you get to this point you will have a pie shaped piece of chicken wire the length around the pie shaped piece is the same length as the distance around the basket. so take the pie shaped funnel piece and tie it into the inside of the basket mating the outside circular part of the pie shaped funnel piece to the opening of the basket. as you tie it in place the funnel will start shaping up and it'll make sense. the funnel will come to a sharp point with no opening, so you cut the tip off to leave what ever size you would like and you have to sew up the funnel where it comes together but once you get to this point it'll all make sense

Randy Smith you can use on bottom or suspended from a tree. But let trap hang about a foot under the water. You will just have to experiment with it. All depends on what you're fishing for.
i appreciate you giving knowledge to feed people in an emergency situation, however you should "NEVER" totally submerge the trap due to the fact that turtles "will" also enter the trap and "will" drown if they cannot raise their heads above the water to breath! "fact!!!"

This is illegal in Arkansas. A trap has to be wooden. No plastic, no metal.

Trapping fish isn't illegal in n.c. you can't trap game fish. everything else is free to trap. Like catfish.
