    Thank you for the time to address my question. I was excited for some reason to see my handle in description. Also nice to see you actually review the questions in a timely manner.
    All my questions were answered and was pleasantly surprised to see the throats rigidity and closing in against itself.

    As far as theft,, I usually fish my noodles in still bayous. I find a good hole and throw out 10 or 15 jugs in a small area, then run them for a few hours. Since I'm right there - nobody can rob or steal them. I fish from a kayak so I don't cover a lot of ground - i find a good spot and fish it heavy. This is where knowing a good hole and chumming it comes in handy.

    Great video man, i built these too i also found that using the orange small street rubber cones work too they are a bit heavier to hold the trap in place and i made my own slits for the throats ive got a question for you tho what are u putting in urs to attract the ur cats inside of ur trap?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  8 лет назад

      Kingtate55 I use catfish cheese in mine. That seems to work best for me. Search my videos as I did a video on it.
      Great idea about the cones. I have been building throats out of a 5 gallon bucket and will have a video on hiw to do that soon. Stay tuned and subscribe. Thanks!

    Ever since I watched your vid on the catfish trap, I have been brain storming on how to make a throat...And im thinking funnel.

  • @victoryang2094
    @victoryang2094 9 лет назад +3

    you could just make that out of a cone

    As a follow up, do you have a problem with others emptying your single "jug" or your noodle lines? Or mine have been taken altogether.
    Thanks again for your time. You are appreciated. 5 minutes of your time keeps my family fed easier.

    yes I have ordered and now have the plastic throats, but a bigger than 8 inch plastic pipe? so now I would 'like' some help with a video showing me how to use a pipe bigger than 8 inches, my Black plastic pipe is about 11 inches around, just short of 11 inches, so the throat will fit inside if I do some trimming around it, but I see I just have to figure it out myself?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  9 лет назад

      Shane Dahlke Hi Shane and thanks for the comment. You can use the throats in a pipe larger than 8", but like you say you have to figure out a way to make it work.
      I've done a lot of experimenting since I published this video, including making traps out of plastic barrels with a hole cut in the end for the throat.
      But one trick I can suggest is to take a lid from a 5 gallon bucket and cut a hole in it, insert the throat into the hole and wire it tight. Then trim the bucket lid so that it matches the width you need and wire it into place for your pipe.
      I'm working on an updated video using 8" black plastic pipe and I'll be sure to address this issue.
      Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. I really appreciate the feedback.

    I will be making a few of these do you chum the traps to attract the catfish or do the just go in seeking shelter ? Thanks !

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  9 лет назад

      In the spring when the females are laying eggs, they will seek out these for shelter. At other times you must have bait for them to work. Thanks for watching sir.

      What do you use for bait in them?

  • @loganwhite1211
    @loganwhite1211 10 лет назад

    do you think these would work on bluegill or other panfish and baitfish?

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  10 лет назад

      Hi Logan:
      I don't think they would be good for baitfish for a few reasons. Mainly because it takes some amount of force to spread the slats apart for the fish to enter. I'm not sure if small fish will push against the slats hard enough to get in whereas a catfish has no problem bulling through.I have caught a few small bluegill in mine, but not many.
      Thanks for watching.

      Wayne where do you live and the reason I'm asking is some places want allow a basket trap or any type of trap the one's that do there are a bunch of restrictions or thing you have to do to a trap to make them legal, if you plan on being legal that is, some places if you plan on selling require a commercial license, some a simple tag with name and license number and phone number on the trap. But, that's if ya gonna be legal about it , now survival situations a different story and that's a matter of o well hope I don't get caught but if you live on a place near water , pond, inlet, bayou etc and you slip a trap or two in the water keep your mouth shut you could get away with years of free fish if ya know where I'm going...but never tell it friends will screw you Everytime...lol...

    that will be outlawed sooner or later.....people have to be limited to rods ands reals or we will fish our streams and waterways exempt from fish'''''' we must not over fish....or they will be gone

    • @Meattrapper
      @Meattrapper  9 лет назад +3

      thomas dawe Over harvesting is a result of irresponsible behavior, not the method of harvest. It is easier to release a fish unharmed from a trap than it is from a rod and reel.
      There is nothing whatsoever wrong with having a trap in place so that when you arrive at your camping spot you can check the trap and see if you have anything. You can take what you need and release the rest.
      In my state a commercial fishing license is required to run traps, and harvest records must be kept and turned in. Regulations and bag limits are adjusted based yearly harvests. Waters are opened and closed based on population sampling done by biologists using electrofishing methods.
      Outlawing traps will not save fish populations. Fish populations are declining in areas where traps are already outlawed because of water quality issues, invasive species and pollution runoff.
      Traps are not the problem - irresponsible people are. Blaming traps for low fish populations is like blaming guns for crime. After all, if we'd just outlaw everything but single shot long guns, then crime would go down, right?

      @kkelly1954 8 лет назад

      +thomas dawe People have been using hoopnets, slat traps, trot-lines, noodles, etc. for as long as I can remember and they havent fished them out yet.
      There is such a thing as keeping what we need and releasing what we dont.
      Like the man said...being either responsible and doing the right thing or being irresponsible and greedy.
