TAG Heuer Aquaracer 200 | A Week On The Wrist
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 апр 2022
- We've spent our own share of time lamenting that TAG's Aquaracer offering came only in a 43mm sizing for years. Eventually we came to the realization that the brand's dive watch collection simply wasn't for "us" but rather the mass-consumer. That was until March of 2022 - during LVMH Watch Week when TAG took its two worlds and forcibly collided them.
Enter the 40mm Aquaracer Outdoors - the watch that knocked our proverbial socks off (and maybe our literal ones too, had we not been wearing shoes when we saw the watch for the first time).

My first mechanical watch was a TAG Heuer 2000 from my dad, for my 18th birthday, and I love it. I miss you man.
The question is - is it still working?
@@serendra90210 Yes it is! Albeit running a little fast (but not bad at all for a daily-worn watch that was only serviced once in the past 19 years)
I bought my first TAG Heuer in 1996 and have owned several since then. They are good looking, well built watches and I've never had any issue with any of them. I really like the looks of this new Aquaracer 200 and it's the perfect size, too. Definitely on my wishlist! I enjoyed this review, btw!
I bought this watch last week and absolutely love it. The blue dial really is beautiful in any light and the facets of the hands and indices catch the light just right. It’s the perfect size for me and a great every-day wear watch.
Enjoy your tag let pools enjoy their boring aquis
Is the bracelet screws or pins ?
@@downsouth1678 Pins
What is the mechanism in the watch( eta, selit or something else) thanks .
How’s it held up with the scratches
I like the outfit changes. People make a good point about this being an ad rather than a week on the wrist. I feel all previous week on the wrists have been ads at their core but this one has a bit more of a 'selling' pitch.
I remember TAG being a hot brand in the 90's and then they lost their way somewhat. This is a very nice watch which may pique interest in the brand again. Thanks for posting.
Quality went way down hill
@@RAJohnson713 They had some good models in the range but quality was definitely an issue with other watches in their range. The cheaper models weren't good.
I'm glad they're doing a few smaller watches. I was at a TAG press event about a year ago and told the reps the Autavia was the only line I was interested in because everything else was just too big. I'm not taking credit for their new line; just an anecdote. I'm sure many people were asking them for a smaller case.
Creative, amusing, and informative. Great work Danny!
Tag has never been on my radar. Saw this exact model today and I loved it.
High quality video, I could tell this took a long time to create. Looking into my first tag and I’m sold! 💪🏼
This is such a well structured video
Fresh take. This aquaracer 200 caught my eye when it dropped. Doing away with the cyclops and the octagon indices created something more balanced, mature, and sober that the 300 should have been.
Balanced, sober and mature is perfectly described.
I was in a Tag Boutique today, I tried on the blue dial and the Grey. Both were stunning, The grey won me over. It’s smart, Classy, sexy and sophisticated. Safe to say I am in love. So much watch for a low price tag 😉
It’s a 👍 up from me
Did you pay retail or did they give you a discount?
Do you think it’s worth the $2700 in boutique or the $2200 at Jomashop?
Got myself the green dial, cost usd2400
Great video Danny 👏
My favourite classic watch
Cheers from San Diego California
I bought one in 2007, chronograph at the time, which they don’t seem to make anymore. It’s on its 9 week service at the moment. I’ll always love the watch, just has a presence about it.
great to see Tag Heuer! I'm a big Tag Heuer fan!
Yo, pretty good dude. Liked all of the b roll which is a huge part of watch reviews.
Also more tongue in cheek please. The camera checks with the faces were great. Like a small joke or quip when it’s said now I’m the super collector is begging for a hit.
The size and shape of that watch are very cool.
I owned (as my first luxury watch) a Aquaracer WAY2110.BA0910. The most beautiful diver I have ever seen. My second favorite watch of all times (my grail being a Datejust). It is the predecessor to this watch. I no longer have mine because the movement gave me issues and it got damaged when I had it serviced.
Years ago, I had an Aquaracer with a Sellita movement in it. The crown seized while I wound it so I sent it into TAG Heuer for repair. Mind you, this was after less than a year of ownership. It took four months for the center to fix my watch and send it back to me. When I received it, TAG had neglected to run any qc on it as the crown wouldn’t even engage the hands to set the time! Bottom line, TAG Heuer makes some beautiful watches, but way over-charges for the quality of movement, as well as the service one receives from them.
service costs are outrageous agreed.
@@willudallmusic I also think the prices they charge for the watches themselves are not commensurate with the quality of movement inside of them. The finishing, aesthetically, is great- but it isn’t an extra 2 grand worth of great.
I had a problem with the screw-down crown not returning to the closed position on my aquaracer. I took it to my guy in chinatown. I have no idea what he did except for the fact that I paid him $10 and 10-20 minutes later, the watch was fixed and it works like a charm.
Point being if your Tag breaks, don't assume you have to bring it back to them! These watches may be simpler to repair than the Tag Heuer people would have you believe. Fortunately, there is beauty in simplicity:)
This was an awesome video. I'm looking to buy this watch as my first and only real watch since I've just graduated college.
You should buy, this is lifetime everyday watch
As an enthusiast for years this may be the first TAG I actually want. Well done.
Well done, Hodinkee! You've managed to successfully convey to your audience that a person's level of experience within a hobby is directly related to what they wear and look like! Fascinating production decisions....
Some Hodinkee criticisms are well founded but this one is reaching a bit, I'd say.
Yeah, this is the corniest video Hodinkee has ever made.
Their Regular video guy must be on vacation or something
@@BB-gl7zt Perhaps it is a reach, but why create, as the presenter stated, "caricatures," that perpetuate imbecilic stereotypes of watch hobbyists?
Do you think they might come up with a ceramic bezel for 40mm option? I'd love that, cos I want the ceramic bezel but 43mm is too big for me. Same goes to Longines Hydroconquest...
If you like the design, go try it on, if you still like it… buy it. Is it overpriced for the movement you’re getting? Ya kinda. Can you get the same movement in a cheaper watch? Ya. Does the aquaracer look better than the other divers and carry a better brand name? Yes definitely.
I know watch enthusiast love their niche brands and the “value” they bring, but for the vast majority of society, that is all irrelevant. People want something on their wrist that other people will recognize, and guess what… nobody fuking knows what oris is, but everyone knows what tag heuer is.
I’m looking for my first ‘Luxury’ brand watch. Tag Heuer seems like the entry point for me for budget. I have several nice watches which would fall into the ‘Designer’ brand still £400 but the Aquaracer is what I’m looking at next. Great video thanks
I loved my 2000 series years ago , I’m 61 now but I love this version so I bought it
I couldn't just walk by past it. Hoping it appreciates. Everyone wants one! Tag really did it with this one.
Joking right?
Great video, thank you
My first watch was an Aquaracer. I always thought I'd sell it on later to make room for another timepiece in my collection. Turns out it fits me perfectly and has everything I want, nothing I don't. So, it'll stay.
My opinion- watches are an essential to everyone that values their time. The first time I seen the aquaracer I grew an infatuation to owning one. This past winter my wife gifted me my first TAG (the one you mentioned in your video). You bring up solid points jn regards to dressing up for a business dinner or dressing down for 18 holes with the boys. If your thinking of purchasing one I suggest that you do. It’s a rewarding investment. Good job on the video.
Nice video, nice watch. Thanks
This might be the first Tag i've ever liked.
I tried this aquaracer in the boutique, surprised with the build quality. Tudor should watch out!
It's a nice tool piece at a great size.
LVMH's checks just cleared.
Nice video actually 👍🏼 this should be the marketing video from Tag for this watch 👌🏼
Great looks
Cool video, thanks
I bought an aquaracer 300 meters WAP1112 quartz 40 mm in 700USD, it was a good buy? I'm a newbie and I'm happy
Love this
$3000 is NOT a "first watch". You guys really didn't own a watch till you became working adults???
Well said. 😊 First Luxury may be.
Is it a screw down caseback? Or a snap on caseback?
When did Danny start selling cars?
The only qualm I have on this dial is how close the lower dial text comes to the striping, it’s so tight! But surprised at how much I like this overall. At least enough to try one on at an AD.
My first “nice” watch was an Aquaracer, it developed power reserve issues and bracelet clasp issues. Since then I have owned cheaper and more expensive watches without those issues. I have never been able to bring myself to look at Tags ever since. I do still like the design language of quite a few models.
Sorry, Danny, I love you but this one is less of a “Week on the Wrist” and more of a sales pitch, a “no matter where you are in your collecting journey, this is why you’d love this watch.”
These guys make liking watches sound so complicated. I own a Rolex already, and now i want a Tag Heuer. What does that make me?
@@RolexTimex Rolex Timex hahaha
You are 100% right. This feels like an Ad
Hmmmmm anyone notice that Tag is an LVMH brand and so is Hodinkee?
@@mgergely yeah, but Danny does retain his editorial independence. So, the watch is either that good - or he is trying to please his boss
Was this a week on the wrist or a sponsored ad?
To confirm it was
Nice looking watch
Super collector- not worried about spilling coffee. At all.
Oh BTW-we sell this watch in our Hodinkee shop
Sold out
The technical sheet was missing at the end of the video
I've had the 40mm model in blue for a few months now. I had a WAF1113 that I wore for many years and still love. I'm enjoying the new one but for some reason can't bond as much with it. I think they should have made it yet smaller, 38.5MM like that old one. I can't quite but my finger on it but some of the elegance was just lost from generation to generation ever since they released the popular 2000 series...
this was my first luxury watch
I wouldn’t pay retail for it, but it looks like a solid piece
Nobody pays full retail for a Tag. Then again, you can get a discount on a lot of luxury watch brands.
Is this sponsored or something?
Tag are a great brand. Started with one and back to them again after many years. Best bang for buck brand by a long, long way imo
TAG, has a long innovative history. In the 90s they were the popular watch. I have Seamaster 300 Pro, and I like the scalloped bezel. The AquaRacer has a similar bezel. The Seamaster has the Wave Dial, ARacer has its own Dial. I really like this watch, its just a everyday, watch. I think its a GoodLooking piece. As a Frugal Collector I am thinking of adding this one.
I have owned a TAG for 27 years, a quartz model ,it has performed perfectly. My wife wears it all the time,I am really looking forward to seeing this in the flesh. Leaning to the blue model. Nice vid.
And I thought I had the oldest Tag watch circa 1998. Haha.
They definitely need the date on the quartz and no-date on the auto.
The Aquaracer felt cheap on my wrist when I tried it on last month.
Typically, it seems like you'll find better feeling watches on some lesser brands. I have a Breitling Aviator 8 that I picked up from an AD for $2,700. Easily, my cheapest feeling watch. I have watches less than half that, such as Ball and Hamilton, which feel so much more solid. Just depends sometimes I guess.
'Buy this watch so Ben Clymer thinks you're cool...but Ben's not a big enough chump to buy it himself'
My first watch was a Tudor 1926 in 39mm. Brand new it was $2100 before tax.
Pick Oris over Tag at this price point.
Yes!
I hate proprietary lugs though.
No offense oris is way below tag no matter what you say about tag it has much better quality and brand recognition being third most valuable watch company by name brand( per Swiss brand ranking report). Oris I can’t relate to and I owned 4 pieces and let them all go including cal 400 aquis but also in honesty I am only a heuer fan (without tag) and their chronos do just as we some.
Oris is boring
Or pick what you like ?
It’s very good looking but … what about the movement?
That blue dial is beautiful. Might grow a mullet to complete the look. :)
Let's adress the elephant in the room and the copy paste of the Nautilus dial
Incorrect
The brushed steel bezel makes it look way too bulky IMO - wish it was a diff colour
Got the blue, but really like the black…just waiting for someone to tell me it’s okay to have both 😂
I also got blue and no eyes for other colors, this is everyday lifetime watch
wait for a new iteration so you can justify a new purchase. lol.
nice watches
What color is that dial?
What is this brand called again? I‘m not sure whether TAG has been mentioned often enough in this advertisement…
There is no on the fly adjustment on this clasp, what are you talking about? It has three old fashioned pin holes. The 43mm has a glide clasp.
I do not give a damn about Rolex, Omega (I own the Brosnan Bond model). I wear a Tag because I can kick the crap out of it and it will continue to work. It is a disposable price point so I always know where I can get another one quickly. It is the greatest timepiece for those of us who live the Bond physical lifestyle. They look good in a suit, wearing a polo shirt, or swimming. I have family financial responsibilities. I can justify a Tag. Vanity and conspicuous consumption is not my style. I don't need the approval. Those people that notice a Rolex or an Omega on my wrist are not my cup of tea. I am not saying to anyone do what I do and wear what I wear for a watch. I don't need the crafted image. I create my own. Tag is an understated image for the man who is in control. Been wearing them since the 80's.
TAG should stay in the 90’s, forever 😂😂😂
You all created a dial color for this watch that does not exist with the color grading on this video. Is that blue? Green? It looks turquoise. I can't find that color anywhere.
I think you are over exaggerating the 40mm aspect. I have a WAY2112 on my wrist now. It is a modern 40.5 mm Aquaracer.
The last iteration it was advertised at 41 mm instead of 40.5mm. I guess they’re going the other way this time.
I just wear watches. What does that make me
Lost my watch virginity with a Tag 2000 now I'm married with a GMT 16750 and both sleep in the same box with other beauties
Polished center links on a diver = automatic no
He also refers to those as "polished center links on the dial" (2:49). Surprised nobody caught that in the editing room.
Trying so, so hard to sell this watch.
Is it odd that I don’t find this a review as such, more of a commission driven salesperson in a retail store with far too much stock trying to offload.. although a hungry salesperson means more discount so that’s a bonus.
I am the Tag only collector;)
Wow… I’ve never seen Random Rob like that- Looking like a real person and not third person omniscient!
I have to disagree with the date vs no date argument. It’s simply different strokes for different folks. I collect and love and need the date window. My friend on the other hand doesn’t need the date window and therefore likes no date watches. Does this mean he doesn’t have watches with a date window? Nope. He has a few. Does this mean I’m not an “enthusiast”? Tough to say now lol
And here comes the Tag hating bois
Might be an interesting choice for extra buying a sports Rolex;)
I couldn't stand Tag Heuer... until I finished watching this video. I'm a collector and enthusiast but I've recently branched out outside of the Seikos, Tudors, GS, etc. and into lesser known brands. I thought this was just a seamaster knock-off. I've learned that I was ignorant now.
I like only thing I would prefer a total satin bracelet
Is that face blue or black ?
2.990 for a elabore no decoration is a crime !! Oris offers more for less money !!
You buy watches for decorations?
@@RolexTimex no, but put a elabore and a plastic holder to secure the movement ? In that price ? No tanks! At list thei have a top grade 2824 or sellita SW 200-1.greetings from Portugal to USA
@@joseluisoliveiragoncalves107 do they still use plastic holders inside? I doubt it
Guys, where is a single negative criticism of this watch that clearly is one from the least desirable modern brands (for a reason). Not usually one to be negative in comments but how is this not compared to Oris, Seiko or others.
There are so many good brands whic ewry 2 ares make somthing of old thing and i think that Tag stil has in side 3part muwment- Eta 2892-A2 or somthing sinular. And for 3,5t$ or 4t$ i wil buy rather Tudor for 3,5 or Longine for 2,5$ and Longine has that price has much too ofer
5:58 if they charged you over $10 for that withe jacket, you have been scammed.
Novice is a poor person in a flannel lol
This watch is gorgeous- BUT WHERE IS THE LUME PIP thats a BIG FAIL!!!! BREITLING DID THE SAME MISTAKE IN THEIR EARLIER 42 Superoceans-

Sales pitch.
The 200. For me it's the Aquaracer to get over the 300 and 1000. I don't dive and doubt i ever will. So getting a deeper dive depth water pressure rating doesn't mean much to me. Nor should it really for the guy looking for an "everday (no diving) watch". "Enthusiasts" get too hung up o needless specs that shuldn't matter (e.g. does it have a helium valve, 600m depth water pressure rating.....).
Honestly, most of us buy expensive watches because we DO want people to notice. Buddies, family or that hot bbe we're interested in. Wil the watch get their attention and does it have a godo history e.g. incloved for decaes in PRO motorracing.
Design--for me i prefer faces that use rectancular index's with solid arms. easier to see at a quick 1 second glance in the day or at night...is the LUM's strong?? Does it last??
