Here is a HUGE tip for you ... Whenever removing or installing a blind camshaft ( cannot see cam bearings ) always insert the phaser bolt or a longer bolt ( same thread ) into the end of the camshaft . This is to gain leverage when guiding the camshaft out and back in as to not damage or potentially move the cam bearings . . Also when tightening the phaser retaining bold 100% easier to remove the starter and push it forward to hold the flywheel with a pry bar or flywheel lock tool . No mention of assembly lube on the camshaft and the lifter rollers . I have to ask if you are a mechanic by trade or a self proclaimed mechanic ?
Did not claim to be a mechanic at all, just opened one hemi 5.7 up and successfully put it back together, not teaching anyone at all, video is shared for information purpose only, repairs on your car should be done on a certified mechanic 😉
wonder if my truck has this problem but mine is a 07 dodge Dakota 4.7. have multiple misfires (4) 3 on driver side 1 on passenger. changed spark plugs, coils, even battery(2019) acid leak, and change upstream oxygen sensor since that was a check engine code too. only manage to change one sensor for now since I got 2 right side instead of left/right. with just changing one i have felt a bit of a difference. just taking it one step at a time.
Isnt that a little ridiculous that they still haven't made it better, the same rollers came out 2005 already, i think its just a service idea that you need to get it done because otherwise you will not be able to drive your vehicle no more
So we are doing our hemi and we have a cylinder three went down on the cam and no compression on cylinder three .I’m just worried about metal in the motor. with your experience how is it been it worth doing that kind of job or just replace the motor
With compression problem you should do a leak down test to see where the compression is going. 3 options where it can dissappear is blown piston, intake valve not closing or exhaust valve not closing. I wouldn't bother paying for any part until you got that figured out.
Not in this case, they used cheap quality made in gina lifters from 09-14. Government should have let Chrysler go out of business instead of bailing them out!
2015 ram v8 5.7 I replaced the cam and lifters now the truck runs way more rough than it did. The CEL is flashing when previously it was only constantly on. Bad mechanic? Rpm is constantly high. Dont know what else to fix. Seems like it got worse than before i replaced the cams and lifters. Any suggestions?
Always recommend using factory camshaft and lifters, lifters should be left to oil bath for 24 hours just to assure that they get filled with oil to avoid any ticking. Aftermarket lifters aint good at all.
Yep, locked needle bearings. Lifter roller bearings suffer early life failure in Hemi produced up to 2015.

Mine just started showing a misfire on cyl 3.So I figure I a getting ready to do this too.
They are notorious for failing - That cylinder*
@@dimensionexo. that code just popped up 3 days ago on my truck🙃
How long did your truck last with the code before you fixed it?
I drove mine for about two weeks trying to diagnose it. I replaced the coil and plugs and injector. Then realized it was the lifter and cam.

Would you have a link to that 5.7 hemi torque spec sheet? Thank you

Now that it's a year later, how is the engine and oil pressure? Any long term issues so far? Thanks.

Thank you Dean
Looks like oil changes wasn't done on time' 😅

Shitty parts used in roller lifters... They probably saved $50, and who cares, because they'll last longer than the warranty. Shame on you, Dodge....

If your rpms is higher then should be that would Indicate a vacuum leak
Sorry to hear that bro - I think I have the same issue - Cylinder misfire 😑

How much does a job like this cost to the average consumer?
I really dont have the answer to that. If you ask for a quote for a camshaft replacement then you get idea of the cost for labor. +parts
I need to pay someone like you to do mine lol
Can you tell me where I can find the print out you had showing the steps for the repair?
