Thanks Paul! At 68, I've tried to learn many cad packages over the year with extremely limited results. Now that I'm retired and a maker with a 3D printer, I decided I REALLY needed to make the plunge again. I've tried several Fusion 360 for beginners tutorials and ended up scratching my head and thinking I was too dumb to ever understand Fusion. Thankfully, I came across your provocatively entitled video and watched it AND THE LIGHT CLICKED ON! I didn't fold up like a cheap lawn chair, and I didn't run screaming like a girl. It actually started making SENSE! Thank you for your slow, 'constrained' teaching style that has given me hope that i will soon be able to do something more with Fusion 360 than just curse at it!

I have been attempting to learn Fusion 360 through RUclips. there are some good people out there donating their time to help - i appreciate your efforts. Your channel was recommended by a colleague from my woodworking shop - glad they recommended this. Your discussion of constraints and the challenges they cause was right on and as you indicated just turned on a light bulb for me. I have heard others talk about constraints but they didn't go through the palette and share what each of them did for the sketch - yet alone what they would prevent me from doing - that recognition was awesome. Took me a few minutes because I have a newer version of Fusion 360 but once I got the differences in palette layout I was able to follow- thanks again - well done. I just subscribed and looking forward to going through your follow-on lessons.

Great lesson. Your reminder to always not panic is important. I think that's why most people abandon software - the fear or avoidance of the panic that ensues when it doesn't do exactly what you think it will do, which is nearly impossible anyway with any software of any complexity.

I tried to learn how to design stuff in Blender and it seemed very ad hoc and I had no idea how to get it do what I wanted. As someone who took a lot of math in college, as soon as you mentioned constraints in your first video, I knew Fusion 360 was going to much better align with my way of thinking. You did a great job showing me visually here that is indeed the case and Fusion 360 makes it possible to think about design mathematically. You must love this program seeing as you said you are a math teacher!

Paul, I've fought F360 since it's inception and gave up on it more times than I can count. Most tutorials are long on demonstrating how proficient the presenter is, but short on tutoring. After viewing your first two videos I was able to sketch the part I wanted, generate good g-code, and actually make the part. Had I viewed the lesson on constraints it would have been much easier and saved me an enormous amount of time. Thanks.

@2:40 you were showing Perpendicular, but saying Parallel. @23:00 You say Concentric (which you tight me that applies only to circles) and use Coincident. But you know what, you explain this so well that I learned the difference and even though I believe you misspoke, I fully under stood the concept enough to 1) Know what you meant and 2) was able to deduce the error. This "higher level" of thinking is what is needed to succeed. A working knowledge of concepts is a must. I will be revisiting this lesson a few more time to be sure it all sunk in. Another great tutorial. 👍👍👍

I had Fusion 360 but because of its complexity I kept using the basic tools that I was familiar with. Because of design dimensions always coming out wrong I decided the software that I was using was inadequate for what I was trying to do. I don't consider myself to be idiot but I just could not figure this piece of software out for myself. Your step by step instructions are easy to follow along with even with an updated version of the software. I don't comment on videos very often but I wanted to say, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your excellent tutorial. As I followed along I started to get a tingly feeling thinking about how amazing and powerful this software is and what I will be able to accomplish once mastered.

I just love the way you teach, Paul! The way you speak and explain everything... I wish I had teachers like you back at school.
By the way, it took me a while to realize why I couldn't see the two constraints at the origin point: things have changed in the UI of Fusion 360 since the recording of this video, and in version 2.0.18220 that I'm currently using there's this "Select Through" option which has to be un-ticked; only then I could see the two constraints when hovering with the mouse at the origin point. For those who face the same problem: click on the little arrow besides the 'SELECT' tool, navigate to 'Selection Filters' at the very bottom and then un-tick the 'Select Through' option.

Interesting thing here Paul, after trying and abandoning Fusion 360 before, I needed it to follow things on DAGS designs on Fusion 360. I subscribed again and down loaded /set up Fusion 360 - then came up against a brick wall (again). I tied a few tutorials and failed to get on the first rung. Considering that I was strong in AutoCad 2D (2007 and earlier) it was very frustrating not to get anywhere after days of trying. I then spotted a pic of this guy, with a grey beard, that looked about my age, among the tutorial videos. I figured that he may just speak my language - " ... or die trying" he said!! Viola!! Set me straight within 5 minutes - thank you, I will continue to watch all of your tuts.

Being that I went to school long before CAD s/w existed, I was on my own. As an FRC First Robotics mentor, I had access to SolidWorks or Inventor at various times but made little headway and never got far. Now being just a hobbyist, I'm using Fusion 360. But quickly ran into the usual "I'm stuck" problems. Paul's tutorials are perfect - and the best I've found anywhere regarding any CAD software. I'll probably end up watching many of his other tutorials too. Funny enough, I saw one his prepper videos (protecting chickens from predators, on another of his channels) before finding his tech videos. Heh. But As I've dug in and tried to follow along, I realize that I am learning EVEN MORE about Fusion 360. Now, I not only need to learn the concept, but I need to learn how to utilize it in the new UI. I feel I have an even greater understanding of the material because of all the extra "homework" to figure out the relationship. Thanks Paul! Great course! I have tried so many other tutorials. Yours is the only one that makes sense. TIP: If you are having trouble understanding how to do what Paul is teaching in the old UI, read the comments! Thanks Paul, you have been a real help. It's clear you are a professional instructor, knowing the importance of using repetition. You made effective use of repetition of previously covered commands and utilities in 360 by continuing to narrate what you were doing with them when demonstrating new features, like always narrating the drawing of a line or paragraph (covered in previous lessons) as you were executing constraints. This is important in the learning process because it cements the concept. I appreciate your work!

Even the $49.00 book I purchased left me confused and dazed at times because the examples in the book were not doing what they said they should do and now I understand why and much more. Your calming voice and the three principles of dimension, position and constraints have made all the difference and in addition your mindfulness to pick an action, then do the action, then escape works so well. I am also glad you keep your mistakes in your video and show what you did wrong and correct them. I also love your references to "this foolishness". It shows you are human just like the rest of us. I'm absolutely blown up how good teacher you are, sir. Tried a few lessons of some other youtubers, but it was just YOU, who pushed me to create my first small project in F360. Thanks for it :)

Great session. Like others I have to figure out the changes from this version of the software to the later version but so far I'm getting there.
    Cheers, John

Although the interface has slightly changed since the recording, Paul seems to have a way to make the subject matter stick. Loving the course... Size, position, constraints... Brilliant!!!

I've been using Fusion 360 for a short while now and constraints have always been a problem for me. Thanks for the great lesson. 1 other note is that the color of the lines change from blue to black when they are fully constrained. Also very helpful when you need to confirm you have enough information on the page. Thanks again.

God Bless you Mr. McWhorter!! I have been fighting and trying to figure out Fusion360 for several months now and just about all the tutorials I have followed do not go into the depth that you have. Easy to follow and easy to understand! Thank you so very much!!

Thanks Paul, great video on important topic. I love how you don't edit out the mistakes, because that happens to all of us and shows how to think about where we went wrong. Great stuff. Tried AutoCAD in the very early days but gave up pretty quick due to the complexity, so i'm very glad YT is here together with awesome tutors and their precious time to give us a second shot in the exciting 3D home printer days.

Absolutely fantastic lesson, you were so right, if you understand the constraints they aren’t really constraints but great tools. This lesson was fun.

I have watched a few videos about 360 Fusion, as far as I can tell nobody matches your conciseness. Even when you miss something initially your follow up shortly afterwards. I was trying hard to understand how to change a dimension value and did not even think about double clicking on it. So I saved my work on the eyeglass case and continued watching, you are making this idiot proof, leaving no stone unturned. I am 61 and just got my first 3D printer, the previous videos to yours had me doubting I would create something of my own and would be thrown into the replication kingdom of Thingiverse. Thanks Paul for all your time dedication and attention to even the smallest details.

Long time Sketchup user. Utterly FAILED ex-Blender learner. Yesterday I found Fusion 360. Spent a couple hours with Autodesk tutorials which ended in confusion. Tried two top F360 youtubers. Started getting Blender flashbacks and gave up. Decided to stick with Sketchup.
Today I found your lessons. Lesson 1 turned the light bulb on. Lesson 2 made it stick. Lesson 3, I'm a believer. I can see Sketchup fading into the background. You're an excellent teacher. I'm going to go through the rest of the lessons in the next couple weeks, but I already have enough to work on a personal metalworking project for ham radio (my second left-handed bug).

This tutorial is amazing. I was really struggling with my sketches. I just kept redoing your demo and the mystery of sketching disappeared !
I am in the process of rewatching this tutorial several more times to drill in the concept of constraints.

Excellent tutorial ! I have done a few tutorials which showed me examples of how to define a complex part, but I could not generalise well from them. You are teaching PRINCIPLES that gave me a deeper understanding of Fusion 360. I now have a stronger base on which to learn the details. Maximum respect !
