  • You will need to have new oil filter cap before you try this. If you oil filter housing got stripped and you can not unscrew it, this will help you to get sure grip and get it loose.

    First time I did the oil change after dealer service expired on my 2018 rx350. I had the correct filter wrench and still rounded the filter. Used a chain/vice grip wrench. Did the trick.

    Root problem here is Jiffylube and similar quick oil change vendors using impact wrench to take off and put on these filter caps (aside from the garbage oil they use)

      No it's cause the filter housing cap is made of plastic. When it heats up the threads of the plastic expand making it hard to take off.

      @@bubblyleancap! They have a jabroni that over tightens your cap so you’re forced to go back to them.

    Thanks for sharing. This did not work for me. I ended up bending a large screw driver - it was stuck so bad. Ended up using an impact wrench with min 1000 ft lb breakaway torque and a paper between the housing and filter socket.

    I tried everything had to resort to a chisel and a sledgehammer. Broke the old plastic one out to the point I could unscrew the rest of it. My recommendation is if you break a tab off trying to get it off go straight to the chisel and sledgehammer. You already have to replace it.

    Getting old pushing 70 so sometimes I don't feel like changing the oil anymore plus my 2010 Corolla is a pain to even get to that filter. I have the plastic filter. Oil change time I decided to take it to Jiffy lube no waiting its a block from my house. Big mistake. I brought these idiots the oil and the oem filter and the oem gasket. I tipped the under the car guy as I usually do. Big mistake the dude must have thought a tip means put it on extra tight. They make you sit in the car now so as he's putting the oil canister on I see and feel the whole car jiggle like he's tightening the canister crazy hard. i scream Stop that!!!. 30 seconds of quiet then I feel it again same scream. i thought everyone knew not to slam that canister on. Fast forward a year later I can't get the canister off. I have a Dewalt AC Impact gun nope a 20 volt Dewalt Impact gun nope and a breaker bar with pipe extension nope its stuck on. I bought a really nice FORGED oil filter cap tool with 1/2 inch socket hole from amazon. its a heavy beast and stood up to ac powered dewalt. No paper necessary. People use paper cause the tool is a chinese pos. That forged cap got real hot under the dewalt ac gun. Will not come off. I use mechanics down the street once in a while let them take a shot at it. Going to buy some freeze spray and freeze the shit out of the cap. If I could get a breaker bar and a 4 foot long pipe extension under I bet it would come off but no room under there in the driveway. Beyond pissed off at Jiffy I will never ever ever use them again. Those jackasses charge $53 labor now too.

    Pack a bunch of dry ice around the cap for a few minutes and shrink it away from the surrounding, warmer metal. Do it while the engine is hot, and drain the oil from the housing first. That temperature shock should work.

    • @imemoboohoo
      @imemoboohoo 10 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah. Because people are more likely to have a bunch of dry ice laying around than a drill and breaker bar.

      @@imemoboohoo Oh brother..another one who can't figure shit out. Dry ice is easy to get. People get it for birthday parties, and it's not going to affect the housing. People actually start their vehicle when it's -20F. Get real.

    Those things blow…..get an aluminum replacement. …they blow too but not as bad…use the release to get most of the oil out and it helps to control the mess….did I mention that they blow…..Toyota, for real?

      If it was a simple matter of just heating it, most people wouldn't be searching for solutions like this. Thinking before you speak; try it.
