All these people complaining about saving the trucks History. This thing sat for so long as is and probably would have rusted sitting somewhere else. Bruce is making this thing better by giving it a fun custom touch, he already said he wants to save the color and the keep the air force on it. Eric Rudgers at least I know what I am taking about DONT get me wrong someone can do whatever they want. but when they cut up a truck that should have been restored to original but with a few updates like rims interior brakes paint etc. not shity looking drop bumpers sun visors that cover half the windshield and power mods. I was hoping for that too! Why chop up a perfectly good frame?! I believe safety could wind up being an issue. Please, don't ever drive that truck in Iowa or Minnesota...I have family there that I would like to be safe while on the road.
Matthew Bergin it’s his truck and he’s doing it how he wants it. I don’t overly like stretched frames on a cabover. But we all have our own taste and style. Questioning the safety of it is absurd, it will be safe and fit to drive down the road.
Hey Bruce can you tell us the purpose for the truck? What’s the end goal? Why the stretch when you already have the freightliner. Cut and weld it straight. Measure measure then measure again. Use a good rod like 7018. Don’t use a mig, that’s for poop welders who can’t flow a vertical puddle. Weld from the outside and if you’re good the inside weld will look just as good. Rust proof the inside then bolt in a frame section so the flanges will be strengthened. No need to weld in a plate. Plates just add strength to poor welds. Please prove the haters wrong and finish this one
Does Bruce live in a tree and eat pencils?. Do bears shalala in the woods and wipe their arse with a bunny rabbit. We do not know these questions. But we do know that two words do not mix. BRUCE N TRUCKS.
Name the truck Major Fod! Since it was an Airforce truck keep it military/aviation themed. FOD is an acronym for foreign object damage(debri). FOD is a bad thing on the flight line. With what you're doing with the truck Major Fod is suitable.
Let's see now, the truck has no headlights, taillights, bad tires, radiator leaks, and other issues, Hey I know! Let's cut the frame and stretch it!! Mechanical work before sugar coating is the key to success in a project like this, not stretching, gay oversized visors, polished tanks, etc. A solid foundation is key. You went down this road and got burnt once already remember? That reminder is parked right behind the USAF truck looking right at you. Looks like this dude needs an accountability partner on this project, somebody to smack him back into reality and keep on tasks that are important. FOCUS.
You need to watch JC Smith Projects. You could learn some good tricks for working on that truck. Need a mag drill. No trying to bash ya brother, ya gotta be super careful when doing a truck frame. Ezrider did a Pete and he shows a lot also.
I had said that when he proposed stretching it. Find an air ride cut off first. But more important, fix the mechanical issues before doing anything else.

@@ikontrolcod Yes, he has a plan not just spur of the moment. I've re-done two vehicles myself and am working on a third now, a 1988 Ford F250 diesel pickup. First thing you do, assess the needs, make a list of the needs and parts with prices to fix it, prioritize the list of needs, budget for them, fix the mechanical needs. Then you move on to the "sugar coating" like paint, chrome, stretching, etc. Not the other way around.
This guy clearly has too much money to spend and doesn’t care about saving. He has 3 trucks, no CDL and too much time. A smart person would have used those resources and started a small trucking company.
I'm struggling to see what the advantage is to lengthening the chassis as it will make the truck less maneuverable. I'll be interested to see how they lengthen the prop-shaft.
did you see the trouble he had last video of him trying to back up the freightliner in front of the chrome shop because of the long frame? it was ridiculous. Makes no sense why to stretch this frame too when he already has the freightliner....
You better do a z cut and then plate the inside of the frame and bolt it. Get a magnet drill to do your holes with. Do not just strait cut and weld with no reinforcement on the inside
Well, here is another truck about to be parted out. Damn man, get it working first. I was all about the restoration of the other one, now you just want to cut up a perfectly good truck because you failed to finish the first one. You already have a long wheelbase cabover. Now you hacking up another one. Here is a predication on this new truck: You are going to weld it together, paint the frame, slap some wheels and tires on it, slap some chrome/stainless on it. Then you going to realize that you still need to get a new driveshaft, fix the overheating problem, rebuild the engine and then you going to find another cabover and start again. and this one going to be the new parts truck.
Your "skilled" mechanical abilities with a torch and sledgehammer are fantastic! A ten year old can do it also, and like you won't get it put back together. Are your sponsors supporting you to show them in a good way? I thought Hotshot products was a reputable company, but you don't seem to present a good image for them. Maybe the viewers can contact some vendors such as Hotshot to discuss your ability to be a spokesperson. I think I will start with them.
Since you sold the bus, and the Dodge ram you bought from the same guy.... Why not destroy this "project" too. You won't listen to Actual truck drivers when they are giving you solid, honest, sound advice like, Not cutting and stretching the frame, stop asking for opinions and advice and learn from your second downfall of failure.
My work place we do frame stretches all the time for farmers. We always cut it an an 30 degree angle and run a second c-channel on the inside of the frame rails about 3-4' past on either side of the seam. This seems to work very well for us.
Shouldn’t cut a frame straight down at a 90, should have went diagonal at a 45, that gives more surface area when you go to reattach it, just minor details tho, great content keep it up
Did you watch the video? This is not the final cut it was just to get it apart to make a cleaner cut. Its people like you that plague this comment sections with misinformation.
ricochetey you can make a perfectly clean cut with it how it is lol either way just relax it’s just a comment section on a RUclips video... it’s people like you.. lmao

My thing is if you want a stretched frame semi truck why didn’t you just buy one instead of cutting up that one to stretch it leave the short frame trucks alone and buy a stretch frame instead
Josh Butterfass How many long wheel base rigs have you seen go cheap? He’s looking to make videos off of it not just buy one built. 2 find me a long FACTORY wheel base cab over with 300inch wb? All the long ones have been cut just like this. I agree he should have do a 45 degree or Z cut to give it more surface that the straight cut. Hopefully he will at least double frame it there, put some bolts thru and some strong welds. I doubt this truck will ever pull 43-44k pounds again so not the biggest deal.
you are planning to add a doubler at least four or five feet of doubler I hope plating that doesn't also double the top and bottom flange is far less effective than just a plate?
Please get with EZrider (youtube name), he has a video on his Pete 359 that he just did a frame extension on. Definitely ask him for advice before you move any further!!!
The top and bottom of the of the frame the flanges carry the weight of the truck cut straight then put 24in insert and a crossmember over the seam that way it's welded and mechanically fastened you're have less problems from the heat from the weld if you straight cut then if you use a z pattern and it's less apt to crack when the frame twist I don't know if you didn't show but you shouldn't be taking a lot of measurements and the drive shaft equations are something to think about and make a story Pole it's easier than using a tape measure don't forget your cross measurements so it doesn't dog track but there's lots of ways of doing it
It wont be hauling anything with a Non DOT certified weld on the frame. It will be getting hauled to a scrap yard while he plays hide the salami in jail if he gets caught
It`s not "bus monkey garage" but Bus Grease Monkey :P I`m glad that he`ll take the trip. He seems like a very nice and thorough guy. He knows a thing or two about 2 stroke diesels.
Yes, I watched a video where he and his son got an old crackerbox with a 6V 71 going that hadn't been run in at least 20 years. I think it was even a bit more than that.
I agree the DOT ever sees it and asks for the frame certificate and he ain't got one straight to the bone yard it goes because that truck will not be road legal after that
Considering he has no CDL, no Annual on any of his trucks (has even recorded him pulling in combination at that), claims they're Ag (which he recorded his own demise on all of that), and even admitted a while back no registration when driving some... he wont be seeing the light of day for a long while when the first DOT officer finds him.
Got 2 be square & strait on both sides( frame rails ) or else it will " dog walk " -- wear tires - never keep u- joints or carry bearings in it . Not to mention the shake & shimmy he'll feel in the cab .
Why’s everyone crying over him stretching it? It’s not like your having to drive it or even put any money in to it so keep you negative comments to your selfs, just be happy he’s putting up content for us all to enjoy on this pandemic we are all having to go through.

We have come to realise that this is his REALITY.
You need to watch JC Smith Projects. You could learn some good tricks for working on that truck. Need a mag drill. No trying to bash ya brother, ya gotta be super careful when doing a truck frame. Ezrider did a Pete and he shows a lot also.
you should get a hold of JC Smith out and Ohio he could get you set up with the bear and then and how to stretch that frame out
Well if you are going through all that effort why not make it airride?
I had said that when he proposed stretching it. Find an air ride cut off first. But more important, fix the mechanical issues before doing anything else.

Shouldn’t cut a frame straight down at a 90, should have went diagonal at a 45, that gives more surface area when you go to reattach it, just minor details tho, great content keep it up
