They don't really check that stuff you can just put something as if you were there and you can download it. I've done it in the past at least when I was trying out the software.
i just tried to renew my license and they changed their layout. Now they force you to give the name of a school or college that you are attending and it has to be one on the list they give along with uploading a student id or transcript or access is denied.

Not possible anymore since 2020 if you really arent a student. you have to proof with a confirmation of registration that you are student at a certain school. before that it was possible without it and endless usable, because usually you load a newer version within 3 years and after load the new version you can use it 3 years more and so on. Sad for e.g. workless ppl who are working on their portfolio. but gg autodesk, I will have a serious look at blender now.

Guys, "learn Blender" is not an option, Blender and 3ds max are different programs and they are for different purposes, many videogames companies (and not just videogames) does not use Blender as standard software, so you better learn 3DS Max if you wanna start working on 3D stuff. As someone who is currently trying to move over to Blender from almost 2 decades of 3DS Max... I can tell you I really wish I didn't have to. It's like having to learn how to be a 3D modeller all over again from scratch. Blender does EVERYTHING differently... Absolutely everything, a lot of it in overly complicated and stupid ways with even some of the basic stuff just hidden away in the really badly designed, terrible user interface. At this point I can only imagine people love Blender so much simply because it's free. It's a frigging terrible user experience. Let's say I want to make a box that is 4m long, by 1 wide and 1 high. In 3DS Max you'd simply type that in when you make a box. In Blender... There's nowhere to set differing length, width and height when you create a box. You have to create a cube, set it to 1m size, then scale the 3 dimensions to what you want. Blender adds this needless extra step through poor user interface design choices. And there's dozens of little things like this in Blender that overall increases the amount of work you have to put in to get the same results...
@@killakanzgaming I’ve started using blender 6 months ago. I’m 16 now and currently I’m quite fond of blender’s modern look especially in 2.9. Like I can’t imagine using the old 2.79 version. I also downloaded that version so I can export .3ds files into my updated blender. Scaling is pretty simple in blender. Nothing seems too overly complicated. It’s just that there’s a huge learning curve and once you get it there’s literally nothing stopping you from doing anything. I guess I didn’t find blender difficult for the sole reason that this is the first 3D modeling software I ever used so I learned everything from scratch. Perhaps when I get to college and get a decent income/internship I would totally move on to autodesk. But if you are an existing autodesk user there’s literally no point in switching to blender if you’re already good at 3ds Max or maya.
And for people who graduated years ago....completely useless. Probably best to stick with Blender that I can use 'forever' plus Blender is less demanding than 3ds Max. Even after University....game design is always a learning curve to keep improving, many people love 3d modelling as a 'hobby' so 3dsMax won't work for them.

I know your comment is 4 years old. But I like 3d Max more then Blender. You can turn the items around easier in that plus a lot easier to understand. I wish they would let us use it free or sale it at one price! And not having to do a yearly payment which is nuts. Not too many people can pay over $200 just to do it again next year. it should be one time payment if they really want to be picky.
@@SugarMollyHazel The ui of 3ds Max is good, but the constant crashing was what made me hate it. Especially since it has such a high price tag, it really has no business crashing so frequently. But yeah, all these subscription programs are ridiculous. I actually don't use Blender too much anymore, instead I use Blockbench (another free 3d modelling program.) It's simpler than Blender, which I like because I tend to go long periods without modelling and forgetting everything lol.

Blender even gets a bunch of industry standard things either overly complex or stupidly backwards, and it's UI is just terrible... Even the new overhauled one. It's just horrible to use, always has been. ... But it's free...
Great for learning, but not at all for creative or commercial use, they own what you make in this version. And you can get in quite a lot of trouble. As the other comments have said, learn blender, it might seem daunting at first (I put it off for so long when I was first trying it), but it's a great, actually free product that you can use commercially.
Hey, Evan here! Not everyone is aware of free software for students :) I took engineering in school and there were many different applications we used, but many myself and others didn’t know we had free access to until we were told about it
This is 'BS' my friends - it's not free if you can use only to learn how this software works. Very old way to make people buy something: make them addicted to sellers stuff. Drug dealers use the same methods.
