- Journalist Cal Deal discusses the Rubin Hurricane Carter controversy and the fiction that was added to the movie. The petitioning of Oscar voters to not vote for Denzel Washington is also addressed.
"I've committed no crime; a crime has been committed against me!"
To Carter's credit, he said that line before he brutally beat that woman who was in charge of the campaign to free him. So at the time he said the line, it could have been true.
He beat that woman for no reason at all. The Canadians eventually turned against him.
The song and tge movie are complete bullshit. How irresponsible for someone to write that song knowing nothing about the case? Thats what agent provocateur do
Roger Ebert, in his review of "The Hurricane": "Several people have told me dubiously that they heard the movie was 'fictionalized.' Well, of course it was. Those who seek the truth about a man from the film of his life might as well seek it from his loving grandmother. Most biopics, like most grandmothers, see the good in a man and demonize his enemies. They pass silently over his imprudent romances. In dramatizing his victories, they simplify them. And they provide the best roles to the most interesting characters. If they didn't, we wouldn't pay to see them."
Yeah but it isn't just about the fictionalizing but also that Carter was actually guilty of murder.
The fact that the guy with him was not even a friend was told tell us it was Carter you can go home, he
said no, was Carter a bad man yes was his co defendant, no, far from it,
EVERYONE claiming Rubin Hurricane Carter’s supporters are basing their knowledge off a movie, is not the case. I have done all the research in the world on Rubin Carter and I am certain he was an innocent man in 1966.
The people claiming they think Rubin Carter committed that crime are all people who I’d never want to meet, because I would not feel safe around someone who supports such a disgraceful system.
Rubin didn’t even believe in racism, he believed no man was above or beneath him, and he stood for what he believed in and wouldn’t back down. He was not a racist. And White America saw that man as a THREAT because he was outspoken. You, and the poster of this video knows NOTHIN’ about Rubin CARTER, and shouldn’t be spewing falsehood. Rubin Carter was wrongfully convicted, and a Great fighter. Who defeated vetarins, Holly Mims, Gomeo Brennan, Florentino Fernandez and Emile Griffith. He faced them all, so don’t try and talk down on Carter’s career either.
Carter was a nasty, filthy human being. Did you ever hear of the 16th round? I didn't think so.
"Journalist Cal Dean"...How is Cal a journalist? His only reporting...ever...has been on this one thing.
His website nailed it big time.
If your coming into this with jaded colored lenses off the bat then you can't make an unbiased judgment.
He’s not looking in to the case with “jaded color lenses”, he even said in the interview that he initially believed Rubin Carter was innocent, but after he looked at the evidence, it contracted everything Rubin said. After that, he now believes Rubin Carter was guilty because the evidence supports guilt not innocent on the part of Rubin Carter. Only the people who have a biased opinion are the ones who foolishly believe Rubin Carter was targeted because he was black.
Same goes for you
@@user-hv6sb3kg9g goes for everyone. You have to separate the Hollywood story from the facts. Hollywood paints him in a certain way and left out alot because it made for a great movie.
@@DigAPonyYActually the movie would’ve been better if it showed how Great he actually was as a fighter. Rubin was not a killer.
@@DigAPonyYRubin defeated Gomeo Brennan, Holly Mims, he beat George Benton, Griffith and Fernandez. All these guys were Great fighters.
Anything to put a black man down.
No one puts more black men in the ground than black man ....
Anything to keep your victim narrative going. The guy was a killer.
@@KZ-gi7eyI’ve been called racist by black folks all the time. I accept Rubin, I think Rubin was innocent.
Wrong
But it isn't disputed that the murder was committed by two black men in their 20s.
RUBIN HURRICAN CARTER WAS COVICTED ON FALSE EVIDENCE AND THE CROOKED SARGENT DI SIMONE
That's bullshit. He was guilty as sin! There were eyewitnesses that were no longer available. I was big fan of Carter's, but I knew he lost to Giardello. Go watch the fight on RUclips - you'll see. Yet the movie makes it appear like he beat Giardello up and got screwed out of the decision. That should speak volumes.
He was guilty
Writing in all caps unfortunately doesn’t make your claims true. The guy was a cold stone killer.
@@trollgod7565Guilty of many things but Murder was not one.
There actually was never even a “Disamone”. The movie even acknowledge it was a made up character.
