    1) Suddenly, when using the Virtual Display connected to my Mac, I can now input from my keyboard into the Apple Vision Pro's windows. Can still not use hand gestures to control my Mac window, but can input into things like my virtual iMessage window.

      It's worth the price to the right person. I think what you're paying for right now is to be part of the cutting edge of technology and essentially enter this group of beta testers that are playing with what may be a significant role in our future. And yes, with the cameras and sensors and screens all wrapped up in this thing, that price totally makes sense, BUT... I still think the average consumer should wait at least six months for some things to shake out

    To start with, great video. You make a lot of really good points and bring up things that I had not thought of.
    Now, to be a bit pedantic. I agree that these are not AR goggles, but I do believe this is the very definition of pass through. Pass through refers to the outside world being passed through to your eyes through the cameras. That definition may be a little different in regards to vr, but as an fpv pilot, our goggles that, in the past, have had pass through, were indeed just cameras on the outside passing the outside world image through the goggles to your eyes. Different in that you are not just looking through a clear lens with an image being projected over top.
    Again, I could be mistaken about the vernacular in regards to VR tech, but that was always my understanding.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 месяца назад

      I think to dive super deep on it, there's pass through and then there's pass through feed, the later being the video feed bit. And I think to one day get us to a point where we could comfortably use AR in real life, we need true pass through lenses that can overlay information on the lens that aligns to where things are in real world. That's the dream🙌

    My only concern with this is that this compeltes Apple's "walled garden" too well. Its already a solo experience for iPhone users only, I'm just imagining when Apple allows shared experiences with the headsets, its only with other Vision Pro users. We already see this with iMessages and "green bubbles," are our "realities" going to be determined by which brand of headset we get without interoperability?

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 месяца назад

      I would expect that 100%. There may be apps that you can go into and share experiences with other headset owners of different brands, but I think if they create a way to sit in a room and share the floating windows effect, we'll see it be AVP owners only

    I differentiate See-Through AR (like Hololens) from Pass-Through AR (like AVP). Eventually I think See-Through AR will take over, but for this decade and probably the next, the best AR will be using Pass-Through AR (like AVP).
    The idea of a shared virtual / AR space is great, but the challenges are huge. However, on a slightly different note, as far back as May of 2016 I remember using Big Screen to share my virtual screens with my buddy as well as several random people. I don't believe AVP has that built right in like that almost eight year old application either.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 месяца назад

      I've heard it as True Pass Through and Pass Through Feed, with the later being the AVP setup. But I think you're exactly right that a see through version is what will ultimately gain mass adoption. I think we're quite a few years away from that, but I'm so dang stoked to get there. While again, I stand that most people shouldn't buy this thing, it is still the most incredible experience!

    You called out my biggest issue with this. The lack of human interaction. I think the Quest 3 nailed this experience; I regularly work in Meta Workrooms with my buddies who live far away and it feels like we're working at the same table. We play mini golf and a bunch of other games and it actually feels like hanging out. I think the ability to make connections virtually with friends is my favorite thing about VR headsets. Apple's does the opposite and isolates you and when so much is isolating in the tech space, I think that's a huge negative.

BUT not limiting yourself to a laptop and two large displays, or having to only be able to work at your desk, or not wasting time to move a cursor between windows (vs. rapid eye movement) is what the Vision Pro is really all about. Portability and productivity are what make the Vision Pro pay for itself. For entertainment, get a less costly device.

      Yep, only Apple compatible right now. But technically you don't need to own any Apple products to use this. It just gets a lot cooler when you do because of being able to make your laptop screen giant!

    My reaction to the device is it will die like 3D tvs did. If the price doesn’t turn people off enough, these goggles are terrible for people that wear glasses…you are already eliminating a good 30% of potential customers right away.

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  4 месяца назад

      They're SORT of terrible for people that wear glasses. They offer optical inserts based on your prescription that just magnet in place. So yes, you do have to pay a little more, but you can then use the AVP perfectly. I don't think they'll die like 3D tvs, but I do think it will be at least four or five generations before we see anything coming close to mass adoption. The form factor will have to change significantly

      @@DavidManningvlog That has it pros and cons because then you have to put your glasses in a pocket and if you don’t have a case then they get all scratched up. I have the Meta Quest and the DJI Goggles and have had issues with both. No more goggles for me.

    There it is right there. You nearly passed out when you dropped them.
    As a $5000 hearing aid where who has been putting up with this BS for decades?
    People drop stuff. It should be in the ingredients of the product that people are going to drop it regularly and that is part of the deal.

      Yessssss, BUT when the first iPhone came out, people said the same thing. We had all just come from indestructible Nokias and suddenly were breaking glass iPhone screens left and right. This is something you wear, but dropping it is not an option. Even with Apple Care, it's an additional $300 to get the front screen replaced😬

    Xerox produced the first mouse as we know it for a personal computer back in 1973. Mice in other forms existed even before then. Apple didn't invent it.

      I 100% agree and that's why I think they came in at such a high price point. This version isn't for the general public yet, only early adopters that see value in working with something like this first. Right now, there's far more wow factor and entertainment value than practical value for the money. But once the app store is developed and they come out with a much more budget friendly version, be prepared to see these things everywhere

You can get the Quest 2 that has much more content and is less limited for like $250 now. I just don't ever see apple creating a headset that the masses will be able to justify for what it will do. Just my opinion. Love your content dude.
