I worked 15 years with disabled clients. We never left them unattended. That is shameful . Every activity would have a trip plan and receipts for client expenditures. No bathroom breaks and car bound clients wearing winter jackets in warm weather goes beyond neglect. It's abuse. The only appropriate employee discipline should be termination.
the appropriate discipline is jail, they held these people against their will, they confined them and treated less then animals, and even though they had a disability, these people have feelings, i know, i worked with some of these once normal people, not all are born this way, some are work related injuries, and one guy i knew was smart as a whistle, was a professor in life, but got dementia and short fact later he need care and was the smartest escapee we had, but he still needed a care giver to make sure he stayed safe and to help him do most of his daily things,now that i'm old and crippled as well, i have to rely on others to do some of my favorite things and hate when they don't do it as well as me, but this is something i had to learn to let go, because i can't do it myself, but we have feelings

A van in Ga. gave rides to the mentally disabled and then raped the girls-and with Down Syndrome. I knew of a bitch like this woman who did this to students at the institution I worked at in '77. Parked at the mall and left the students-including a friend of mine that had epilepsy. She had a seizure and had just come to when the lady returned to the car an hour later. She was lucky at the time, but another student at the time nearly died due to the heat. My friend died the next year from a seizure in her bed and no one came to her room til 12pm because they assumed she'd overslept workshop on purpose and punishment for that was to ignore her so they did and she had suffocated during the seizure.
I find this Appalling. I was an instructor for Developmentally Disabled Adults for many years. I would NEVER NEVER NEVER do this. All the clients were treated with respect ALWAYS.
I am physically disabled in.northern Ireland and I get bullied by the staff here who makeup rules to suit themselves and break laws to enforce their methods of bullying

I used to work in this field, and it is essentially daycare for the disabled. Half the time we couldn’t even take them on outings because we were so short-staffed. It doesn’t surprise me that this happens
I'm not making excuses for these people but I've known people who work in this field. I wouldn't trust them a anything. The salary is around $8.50 an hour. Quality care cost money. The owners of the agency make bank while hiring workers from the bottom of the hiring pool. You will never see quality care until you pay a good wage for a quality person. The system needs more oversight.
I worked as a direct care staff for about six months. I was paid about $10 for the overnight shift I still treated the clients with dignity and respect. But my manager would yell and scream at one of them who has dementia. I still get upset of this day

She called the attendant to help her go to the bathroom. The attendant wheeled her in and then just left her in the middle or the room on her wheelchair. Things are so messed up and only getting worse. I read a story about a year ago about a grandmother in Florida who shot and killed her disabled grandchild. It wasn’t out of anger or self defense, but it was simply because she didn’t trust anyone to care for him other then her. She didn’t want him to end up in a situation like this.
