  • Hi loves!
    Daily, I get quite a few dm's and comments about Yonsei KLI (Korean Language Institute) so I thought I'd make a video about my experience and some details about the program. As you know, I studied at Yonsei KLI for about a year and did both A course and B course so I guess I'm qualified to talk about it haha
    If you have any more questions to which you can't find the answer on the Yonsei KLI website, please leave them in a comment down below!

    If you have any more questions to which you can't find the answer on the Yonsei KLI website, please leave them in a comment below! I will get back to you as quickly as possible :)
    I kindly ask you guys not to send me DM's unless you have no other option. I have social anxiety and it's been extremely stressful for me to get dm's, text messages etc but comments seem to be fine for me. I'm sure some of you may find that rude but I have learned in the past that if I don't guard my boundaries like this, I get extremely anxious and mentally exhausted. I hope you can understand that my mental health is my number one priority.
    Much love
    Laura

    Your video was so informative 💕💕 I'm planning to go to Yonsei KLI next September for my gap year before getting my master's 🥺 I was hesitating between a&b course but my goal is to start at level 4 and go all the way to level 6 ~ your video motivated me so much to keep working and studying to get there!!
    I hope you're doing well and you're enjoying uni ☺️

      Omg so so exciting!!!
      If you’re sure you can start at level 4, I’d totally do a course instead of b course since some grammar and vocabulary is similar between level 4 a & b course. Did that sentence even make sense? haha
      Wishing you nothing but good luck!! 화이팅 🥰

    Oh, and, do you have older people attending to the KLI? Or even at university there, are there people over 25? Because I’m 27 and I plan to pursue my 2nd degree in Korea but people warned me about how it’ll be difficult for me to adjust and make friends cuz I’m 27..thanks to ageism..😭 sorry for my English🙏🏻

    Oh gosh... This information is pure gold, I'm still a teenager in my last year of highschool and I want to move to South Korea so badly but KLI is quite expensive:') plus I'm still a minor so the amount of money of the tuition it's completely out of my range. Does this program have a scholarship??

    Hi, did you just do KLI at Yonsei or did you take other classes as well? For my exchange program I have to take a certain amount of credits worth of classes but I also want to apply for KLI, and I’m wondering if the schedules would clash. The regular exchange program and KLI seem to be pretty separate in that deadlines and prices (for housing for example) under each are different so am I even able to do both? Thanks :)

    Hello! How are you? Hope everything is well =)
    Your video was really informative! Thank you so much for uploading it!
    I really want to go to Yonsei next year for the KLI program, and one of the things that I found really interesting in Yonsei is the fact that they are more focused on a academic korean, and since a want to do a master degree in Korea after the KLI, I think that the program would be really good for me =)
    I have some questions if that ok =)
    First, even if the classes have more asian foreigners than westerns, did you feel welcomed in the class or more left out? And there were other westerns?
    Also, it's true that in Yonsei you have like, a list of 50 words that you need to memorise in a day everyday? I saw that in a video, but I have never seen anyone talk about this before.
    Thank you so much!

    • @LauraJacobs
      @LauraJacobs  3 года назад

      Hii!
      Thank you so much, really glad it helped ☺️
      When I had classes with mostly Asian students, it was all online so it’s a bit of a different experience than if we were in class. They were all super sweet and I hung out with a classmate as well so didn’t really feel excluded or anything. There were two other westerners in my class back then as well.
      Hmm I feel like the word list is a level 1 thing? Just the basic words you kinda need to know but I’m not entirely sure if it were 50 words or if they had to study every single day. I know some people in my goshiwon had to study some words but that’s all I really know, sorry!

    Did you live in the dorms on campus, or get your own studio apartment in Seoul? I'm considering going for 9 months from September, and am wondering what the best option for me will be. Here's to being 31 and following dreams.. I can so relate to the existential crisis!

    Hi Laura! I found this video very helpful, thank you so much for putting in the time and effort to make it! I am finishing my application now and I see they ask for an essay. There is no prompt or explanation on what they are looking for, do you have any guidance on this?
    Also, I am curious about the dorm and living options. Did you live on campus at the dorms? Would you recommend it ? I was originally looking at off campus apartments but am worried that might be too difficult for my first term. (all this hoping I get accepted of course).

      Oh thank you, I’m glad it was helpful ☺️
      For the essay: really doesn’t matter from what I know! I just wrote that I wanted to explore South Korea, learn more about the culture and that I learned a bunch of languages in high school and that was enough for them!
      I did not live in the dorms, I rented a goshiwon nearby (I have a video about it btw) so I can unfortunately not give you any information about the dorms :s

Thank you

      Oh you have a few days off here and there but never a week, I think. Every trimester, you need to be taught for 200 hours so I guess that’s why some trimesters are a little longer than others.

    Hi! Thank you for making this video. I’m planning to submit an application for 2023 and I had a question regarding the application process.
    I know that Yonsei wants original documents (diploma, etc.) but how does that work with the birth certificate and passport? Did you have to notarize a copy?

    • @naraeangelic
      @naraeangelic Год назад +1

      You will need to get another official copy of both documents, and take them to get apostiled by your state (I'm in the USA so it's by state). I am applying for 2023 as well and plan to arrive in Korea in November for 6 months! If you want, we can help each other with the application process.

    • @LauraJacobs
      @LauraJacobs  3 года назад +3

      Hi! I’m not going to deny that some Koreans are colourist or racist but I genuinely never caught my teachers behaving like that.
      I had a black girl in my class and my teachers were super kind to her. If anything, my teacher favoured her more because she was so good at Korean. I had a friend who wore a hijab and again, no comments were made, no disrespectful questions were asked and she was always treated with kindness and respect.
      I can only speak for the teachers I’ve had but they are all used to meet people from all over the world so I wouldn’t worry about it.
