  • EDIT!! ⚠️Due to Corona and a small amount of applicants the Yonsei KLI B course got cancelled as for now. The options left are A or C course which are the same content-wise, just that the C course starts later in the afternoon! KLI has not stated when or if the B course will be continued⚠️
    Hi there! This Video has some useful information regarding studying Korean in Korea. I have personally been to Seoul, Korea for Korean studies for almost a year so I thought this might be helpful for those who want to do the same! The language program I attended is called KLI, short for Korean Language Institute, and is part of Yonsei University. I tried to roughly overgo everything regarding KLI, Yonsei and living in Seoul in general, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the comment section! ^^

    Hi, I realised your video has been a while ago, hopefully you can still see my question here. I’m recently very interested to study Korean in Yonsei as well. But to be honest, I’m more on wanting to experience how’s it feels like to live and study there. So, is it possible that if I just want to study for 1 level? Any idea if after I finish 1 level, then I quit and return maybe few years later to continue for the subsequent level, will it be possible? And if I only take for 1 level, can I still apply for the on campus housing?

    this video is very helpful! i had one question tho. Im thinking about applying to a language course in korea. I was wondering what language do you get taught in? since I know theres students from all over the world so what language does the teacher initially teach in for level 1?

    • @katharinasagorski489
      @katharinasagorski489  3 года назад +6

      Hi, this is a really good question actually! So all of the teachers are able to speak at least a little bit of English, so if there is really no other way you can always communicate in English. However they really try to teach Korean in Korean as well by using very easy vocabulary and talking slowly and clearly at first. This might be difficult in the beginning but is actually very helpful with speeding up the learning progress, so dont worry, you will get by! ^^

    Hi Katharina ^_^ Thank you for sharing your experience! I noticed on the KLI website the Regular program only lists an A or C course, and there is no B course now? From what I can tell the only difference between them is that A is morning and C is afternoon. They probably changed it after you attended but I was wondering if you have any further information on it? :)

    • @katharinasagorski489

      Hi :) I just checked with a friend of mine who is still studying there and apparently they canceled the B course because not a lot of students applied bc of corona. I can not guarantee you if they will reopen it soon, as all of the classes are online as well. Now you can only choose between A or C course which is the same, just that C starts later in the afternoon. Sorry for the confusion!

      @@katharinasagorski489 Thank you so much for taking the time to find that out! :) I was considering applying for the summer term but I'm a little worried it might be too intensive though I noticed they recently changed the textbooks too? So maybe the program is a little more balanced now? I have studied Japanese before and some Korean so it might not be that bad, but I'm also not sure it will be worth it yet because of corona. :( It might be better to wait it out more but it's so hard to say how long.

      @@RM-oz8bw no problem! :) I am sure that they will consider that issue tho, so I guess you will be fine. However I am pretty sure it will still be online... in my experience the online class was not as good as offline since you also have to practice talking, so that's a little harder online and the motivation was pretty low for me. So I would definitely consider that when applying!

It was more an exception not to pass the exams, however you do have to put in some work! The A course on the other hand will be really stressful. I had some friends who told me how fast paced it was in class. So I would definitely recommend the B course :)

    Hello, thanks for the informational video. I have been accepted into the summer 'university' program at the KLI starting this June. I have spent a lot of time on Korean here in the UK (over 1500 hours) and I think after taking a few online tests, talking with natives etc. that I am around level 4 . Firstly, since the other classmates will be from all around the world, do you communicate to them in English or Korean when not in class? Furthermore, how did you go about making friends both Korean and international? I think my Korean ability is good enough to maintain a friendship but I am still worried about my social situation since I will be living alone. Any advice on how to not be a loner and have a good time at the KLI?

    • @katharinasagorski489
      @katharinasagorski489  3 года назад +3

      Hi!! I think your Korean level will be very helpful to find some Korean friends as well, since many Koreans are shy to speak English and its generally an icebreaker if your level is pretty good. For me I started noticing that over time and at the end of the year it was much easier to find some Korean friends. My first tip, which may sound hard not to do, especially with covid: don't stay at home every day! I met so many friends on campus, in the gym, in the study cafes! If you live alone and don't go outside often, chances are high that you will not meet anyone at all. Another option would be things like "Tandem", I met one of my best friends on there actually and we even traveled through Korea together! Just be careful, some people on there can be strange as well. And lastly, just ask your classmates to go and hang out in real life! You can always meet up and study for exams together so its more fun :) Some classmates may not be fluent in English, so it might be easier for both of you to converse in Korean. Generally English is used most often, however it is way more useful to practice your Korean together :) hope this was helpful ^^

      depending on where you live online course is a good option for you without having to travel to Korea. Since I live in Europe the time difference is too big so that I would have to attend the class in the middle of the night. As far as I know all courses in the near future will be online.
