- Hello family, friends, enemies, and the like! Thanks for clicking on my video! My name is Cathy and I am an international undergraduate freshman at Korea University, and I'll be documenting my journey over the next four years while I'm here.
As many people have inquired, I am going to explain the entire admissions process for Korea University. I also applied to Yonsei and Ewha, and their admissions processes are quite similar, so this can give you an idea of how applying to universities in Korea works too!
This video was filmed in the beginning of September, and now that it is December, I have completed my first year at KU! Woop woop!
That's all for now! Thanks for being a part of my journey!
Love Always,
CΛTHY ❤

super helpful video 🙂 I loved hearing you talk about this.

@@cathyinkorea thank you!! do you have tips for incoming freshmen? can I also ask if you know the minimum and maximum required credits I'd have to take each semester for BA as well as the list of courses you took for the first semester and the corresponding credits as well 😭 really sorry for the abundance questions i also just wanted to ask whether you recommend taking all the academic foundations in the first semester at BA or taking them all gradually?
i also saw in the graduation requirements of the KUBS website that they don't have any general electives graduation requirement but have a "general Electives upon student's selection" rule. do you happen to know if I plan on taking a general elective but it's not part of the graduation requirements and I'm free to take any of them, can I still take it to fill the minimum credits per semester but at the same time accept that it won't be part of the graduation requirements? there's also a "10 English-conducted courses" requirement which I'm quite skeptical about because I will take most of my courses in English anyway. tysm and stay safe!!
May i ask you is it a free school or you have to pay for the year ? And also do they give y'all schoolar ships and how much if it's okay to answer

FAQ (PLEASE READ):
1. What is the GPA requirement to get accepted to KU?
-> They don’t set a requirement so I’m not sure!
2. Are classes offered in English?
-> Depends on the major. All my business courses can be completed in English, but there are some required general courses in Korean. Other majors may put restrictions on what courses you can take until you get your Korean skill up (i.e. psychology, architecture, etc.)
3. Are there scholarships?
-> Yes. There are academic scholarships if you keep your GPA up and there are department scholarships. You can check your department website or the KU website for more info specifically.
4. I have (x) GPA and I do (x) clubs at school. What are my chances of getting in? How can I be guaranteed admission?
--> I am not an admissions counselor, so I really don't know lol.
5. Do I need to get documents notarized? / Do I really need to send (x) document?
-> Anything the guidebook tells you to do you MUST do or else they’ll email you later and tell you to send it! (That’s more postage you have to pay for as well ㅠㅠ)
6. How much is tuition?
--> Per semester it is 4,036,000 KRW
7. I have (x) grades but I want to major in (y). Do you think I'll have a chance? Should I even consider applying?
--> Grades aren't the only thing they consider! I think if you appeal to them your suitability for Korea and your strong desire to study here, you'll seem like a good candidate. (But don't quote me on that!)
8. I don't know any Korean but my major is taught in Korean. What do I do?
--> you have to take Korean language courses until you get the required topik score, and then you can start taking courses for your major. in the meantime, you will have some credit restrictions.
I’ll add more FAQ as they come up, but these are the most common questions I get asked!
What can I put in optional documents if I don't have sat , act

Hey i have a question do you have to include the ielts etc in the documents or do they give you a certain amount of time to take the exam and then send it to them?
Hi Cathy! I have an important question and I would really appreciate if you could answer it. Did you send the original copies of the documents or just the notorized photcopies.
Thank you so much for this video! It's truly the most clear and detailed one I found so far.
Since you're the first person I found that applied to multiple universities, I hope you can help me finally clarify this one doubt I had for the longest time.
I heard people talking about the "university track" (which lets you pick only one university) and the "embassy track" (thanks to which you can choose 3 universities to apply to). But the thing is, that I always heard people talk about these two application methods when talking about a masters degree, and more specifically, when applying for GKS (the scholarship).
Plus, when checking the sites of the universities, I only ever see the voice that says you cannot ENROL into multiple undergrad courses, and nothing really about applying to more than one university. Can you confirm that there isn't a limit when it comes to applying for undergrad courses in Korean universities? Or did you also use the embassy track option in order to be able to apply to all the three universities?
Thank you for your patience in answering all of these questions! You're truly helping so many desperate students hahah
She's not a GKS scholar. She applied as an international student so she can apply to more than one
@@tifeosindele3819 yes yes, I know she isn't a GKS scholar. I just mentioned the scholarship because I wasn't sure if you generally can apply to multiple universities, or if the process is similar for both situations. So thank you very much for clarifying my doubt!

The papers you submitted online were also notarized? So you basically need to send copies of the same documents you added to the online application?
Thank you for the help!!
I’m not sure if they’re doing the application process differently bc of corona but I didn’t submit my Diploma/transcript or other notarized docs online. If I recall correctly the only thing I had to submit online were personal information and personal statements (that I later printed out and also included in the envelope). Hi!! I’m curious on the Korean Bachelors degree. I’m an 11th grader in the US and I am considering to apply to a Korean university but want to return to live in the US after my 4 years of college. Will a Korean degree be worth the same as a American degree in America?? Loved the Video!!!
Mmm I'm really not sure because it all depends on your major. I major in business which I think is more flexible compared to other degrees, but if you do some sort of medical or psychology or science field then not every company would accept a Korean degree I think. I know stories of people from overseas that got their degrees in their home countries, and then when they wanted to get a job in the US they had to do almost their entire education over again.
Do I need to do ielts and korean language course (one of them) or it's okay if I don't. I heard we can apply directly without doing any of these if you are good in english. I heard we can continue learning korean in the middle days till then English will be your guide. We can just directly do admission there without any middle person's help like consultancy. 👀

Hope you can see this and thank you for sharing your information! ❤️

Hai Cathy! I would like to ask regarding about highschool transcript. Do most of the Korean universities require SAT? Do they allow only highschool diploma only?
I don’t think many of them require SAT bc they get applications from so many people from so many countries that it’s hard to set a standard just for one type of SAT. I do believe, however, that Seoul National University requires it, but none of the other schools I applied to did. So you’ll be fine with a high school diploma

Hii, I'm a high school student of the economic sector in Italy. I wanna study at SNU but i really need to know some questions :
Are South Korean universities' degrees valuable outside of South Korea? Will either of European or North American countries (U.S and Canada) accept a person's university degree from South Korea for finding an appropriate job?
hi! this is a difficult question because it depends on the field. like i think a degree in business would be much more flexible (and if i go back to the states, i think being a native-born american would help) on my part, but when it comes to fields like medicine or the sciences, it would be much harder. i know stories of people born in other countries and getting a degree from their home country, then they go to the States to get a job and they had to retake much of their education at a US university :/ but that person studied biology. so i think ~maybe~ (don't take my word for it lol) a degree in humanities would be more accepted from an international university compared to a degree in the sciences or medicine. there might be some other research about it, but that is what I think!

Hi Cathy~ When you did the apostille stamp did they ask for both the secretary of Chicago state and the federal? Or just Chicago?
Mmm if you live in Chicagoland just go to the secretary of state office downtown! There should be only 1 office I think and it’s the only place you need to go to
So are you sending the original document such as a birth papers and if so is there any policy for if it gets damaged or lost
hey! im really really sorry if this has been mentioned in the video as I'm still currently watching the video, but is ku really generous when it comes to scholarships? with the high costs of living compared to my home country im just afraid that my parents wouldn't be able to handle everything, so im kind of worried. also, yonsei has this mandatory 1 year study for internationals where they have to pay around 6 million won per semester which is much more expensive than the ones provided by KU. do you know if ku has something similar or whether you have to pay for the extra korean classes you will be taking? I'm hoping to get an entrance scholarship as much as possible (the Scholarship A : full Tuition fee for 8 semesters. or Scholarship B : 50% of Tuition fee for 8 semesters.), but i noticed they're pretty selective and most scholarships are genuinely offered to students at the second semester. may i ask if the 4m won includes the korean placement? im taking the topik this October since it got postponed (was supposed to take it last 2020 but corona sucks), do you think i'd be able to turn my scores in considering the application is from august - september, meaning after i probably get my topik results my application outcomewould have been out already?
lastly, would it be recommended to take the sat for no reason other than application for ku since its optional for ku and not a requirement locally in my case? may i also sk how much they covered your tuition for one semester? i saw in the comments you would have gotten a 50 or 100%, which one did you get? do you also have to reapply for the scholarship every semester and is the application for the scholarship easy?
Im so so sorry but thank you so much!! i hope ku is treating you well!
at KU, you don't have to pay extra for korean courses unless you study at the KLC. if your major requires korean proficiency you can take korean courses during the regular semester until you get the proper topik score, and then you can start taking major courses. i don't know how selective they are with scholarships but for the academic one, i think it's just your gpa has to meet a certain benchmark. the one i got was after my first year at KU, and it is the 100% tuition scholarship, but i really don't know much about the need-based scholarships. each department typically does have its own need-based scholarships too.
the korean placement test if i remember correctly didn't cost anything because it's just offered at the school. and you may be able to submit your topik score later. i would recommend instead applying with your english proficiency score if you don't think your topik score would be high enough if your major requires korean proficiency. i got accepted with english proficiency, and my major doesn't require topik.
as for the sat, that's really up to you if you think it will help you, but none of the schools i applied to looked at my sat score and it turned out well for me with just the documents and personal statements i submitted
@@cathyinkorea you are soso amazing, thank you so much this was really helpful! this information cleared my concerns, i’m definitely more inclined to try applying to ku than yonsei and im so thankful for your help! if you received the 100% tuition scholarship, was it for all the remaining semesters or was it only for one semester? would this merit that i would only be eligible to apply after one semester at KU (so on the second semester) since they’d look at your current grades or is it only after the first year? im also planning to take up business there! 🤩
Hey! Is teachers recommendation required? Because i plan to take one year break because i dont want to rush my graduation with transfers to korea uni
I have completed and submitted common app for Yonsei underwood college and now see people are sending mails to them. Should I resubmit it with their website and send my documents by mail?
I'll be 17 year old after graduating high school in june but you must apply for universities and scholarships in march which means I will waste a whole year to apply missing so many other opportunities and I was wondering if I could apply before my graduation or something
Hi! I really found your video helpful since I plan on transferring to Korea University this Fall 2021 😊 I was wondering though how you did the online application submission. Did you have to make a uwayapply account? If yes, can you please explain how you filled in the user information?
it’s pretty easy if u just google it ot straight up go to the uway website
actually i think KU uses their own portal, not the uwayapply website! i don't remember for certain but KU's portal will open in March when the app window opens!
Hey I wanna study engineering in ku… can u explain more bout the price…plzzzz cathyyyyyy
