You might not have a perfect time in Korea, but I promise you will not come back to your home country the same person you were when you left!

Degree in translation, and I also attended law school.

My biggest college regret is not studying abroad. I’m finally making up for it 7 years later though. Better late than never!
Yes!! It doesnt matter when, any experience traveling is amazing!
Starting my master's at Yonsei this coming September, full scholarship, feel free to ask questions!
yay!! good luck to you btw!!
Master's in? I graduated with degree in Human Resources. Just looking to see if I can study anything related or even language course. I just want to learn Korean and stay longer.
Which scholarship? KGSP?
What are you studying?
@@renzoleomagsino6603 Just apply for the university of your choice. Only obstacle is money for tuition and living.
Making me want to study abroad even more when I can’t cries
luckily you've been able to travel! I wish you had a chance to study tho ahhhh
Hey don't you worry. Sometimes you don't know where life takes you. When I was planning to study abroad, my parents (had an unplanned pregnancy) gave birth to my youngest bro (14 years my junior!) and because it would be very expensive to study abroad, I decided to not do it so that my parents will not be financially burdened. Both my sisters studied abroad.
But after graduating locally and working a few jobs, I took a chance to move to Hong Kong to be a flight attendant for five years and now I happened to be married to Switzerland. So..what I'm saying is, maybe your "abroad" time just hasn't come yet. =)
for people who aren't in school or college. There's a program called EF that allows you to study abroad without being a student. That's what I'm doing, but it does cost a lot to go.
ah! you mean this?! www.ef.com/wwen/pg/study-abroad/english/ how cool, i've never heard of it until now!
I went to Korea just to visit last month, and I want to go back so bad, I am trying to find out how I can stay there longer. thanks for the info
I know EF is good but really expensive. I would recommend lexis korea, they also offer host familys or own little apartments :) they are not thaaaattt expensive and personally i think you have more choice with literally everything
I’m going to Seoul jan-aug 2020 with them, it is expensive but really handy since thev’ve been helping me with/doing stuff for me(visas, plane tickets, accomodation, insurance...)
It’s not for everyone i guess, but I’m glad i get to do it :)
There's also Gogo Hanguk. In Sweden we have Blueberry as well, and I think a few other agencies that kind of function as a middle-hand between students and Korean universities. Definitely worth looking up!
I’m coming to Korea for the first time in 15 days!! 🤩🤩 so excited.
i hope you have an amazing time!!
Awhhh!! Thank youuuuu ❤️
Good luck!!!!
good luck!
So jealous!!! Hope you have an amazing time! 🧡🧡🧡
omg you saying that after you came back from study abroad that you felt like you had to go back to seoul is EXACTLY what i am feeling right now. im about to enter my senior year and i already have set in my mind that when i graduate, im gonna go back to seoul. i graduate in may and i absolutely fell in love with the city life in seoul. and post study abroad depression is real, i am so sad right now like my study abroad went by so fast:(
i feel you ㅠㅠ if nothing else, at least the sadness lights a fire under you to work hard to get back here! it sure did for me!
myriam garcia THIS. omg I can relate to this post, I got back from my study abroad in South Korea at the end of June and I was depressed for a long time when I came back I think I’m finally adjusted being back now lol but I definitely want to come back when I graduate or even sooner

Videos like these just make me so much more hyped for my study abroad trip 🤩
it was seriously the best time of my LIFE
“My first room was haunted but that’s not a huge deal” AHHH 😂 Cari you’re the best (also the American college struggle is such a mood. I’m so thankful I got a full ride!!) ❤️❤️
yeah we named our dorm ghost 'roxanne' hahahah
This video is such an encouragement! I'm about to enter my senior year of highschool and it is my dream to study abroad in South Korea. I always felt it was impossible, but thank you for all the information and hope! 💕
its definitely possible! best of luck with your senior year :)
Wow, just wanted to say that I really needed to hear the last part of your video. I studied in Korea the Fall 2019 semester and I've been feeling so uneasy especially with COVID and I couldn't figure out why. You definitely put what I was feeling into words, I definitely feel the after abroad depression. However, it was the best decision to study abroad, I miss it so much, I made such amazing friends from all over the world, and I just want to do it again!!!
thank you for this video cari! my university’s seoul program is through ciee and currently i’m waiting for my school to open the application for next spring, though I already talked to the study abroad advisor and she said I would be accepted lol. this video was very reassuring for any of the doubts I was having though. I’m glad to hear it was that much of a great experience for you! ❤️
I’m so happy you made a video on this. I am also going to be a double major and have plans to study abroad. Everyone keeps telling me I won’t graduate on time but you being successful in your experience really makes me less nervous for the school year about to start. Ugh thank you!!!
you just have to plan ahead and be really smart in your class choices (I also sort of made my own major so I was really calling the shots with what classes counted haha!) Good luck to you!!
super informative video. i just studied abroad in spain with ciee and its awesome to me to hear about other peoples abroad experiences. happy new years!
What a coincidence- You just uploaded this video as I am picking my Yonsei classes for this fall semester! I am so excited for what's to come and I even noticed that I'm going to take some of the courses that you took! 😚~
best of luck! i always got so stressed registering hahah
Fall is the best season to stay in Korea. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Yay!! Another video to get me through the week!!
heheh hope you dont mind me talking for 20 min hahaha
definitely agree that study abroad is worth it as it might be one of the best experiences of your life - it definitely was for me! I'm leaving Seoul in two weeks and can't believe I have to say goodbye to this city, these people and this 6 month period of my life that I'd definitely want to relive again. Going back teary-eyed but with so so many golden memories and friends for life!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at uni in London so I don't think I'll move to Seoul as a student - but I found this really interesting. It's good to learn about other universities abroad! Thanks again! 🧡🧡🧡
Please do more like of these type of videos because I honostly want to know so so so much more about studying abroad❤️love your videos btw!❤️❤️
I studied abroad seven (!) years ago, and I'm still buzzing just thinking about it. Wholeheartedly recommend doing it, no matter where you want to go.
100% agree!!!!
I got the notification and I clicked on it so damn fast!!
krys DM congratulations. Enjoy your victory. We shall meet again
gahhh thank you so much!
I leave the UK to star by year abroad at KU in only 2 weeks now, so this video was really appreciated! The "scared you won't like it as much as you thought you would" question is real though... it feels like a lot of pressure when every single person you talk to says "You're going to have the best time of your life!". I've been waiting for this experience for years now, so as long as it goes smoothly I'll be happy. Interesting to hear about your experience, the process is pretty different (and so much cheaper!!) being an exchange student from the UK.
Ahhh u read my mind with this video! I was just looking for info on this topic, thank u!! ;3
yeeee im glad!!
:-D i clicked before the notification even showed ^^ thank you, I was really looking forward to watching this one
omg thank you^^~

Omg I’m going on exchange to Yonsei this fall too!!! Hoping to get into all the courses I bid for! And good luck to you too!!! I’m super excited!!
Omg I’m going too! Literally had to change a class last minute tho lol. I hope to meet everyone going this Fall!!!!
I went Seoul for just one week in 2018 and when I watch your videos you literally itching my Korea!!
omg i got so emotional that i started crying idk why hahah.. thank you for making this video and for your help!!
bahahah i feel you though - i almost cried filming this hahahha
The post study abroad depression is real!! In 2017, I spent a semester at a university in Seoul and had the HARDEST time settling in back home afterwards. The only thing that gave me hope was my plan of finishing my Bachelor and starting a Master at a university that would send me back to Seoul. And what can I say, little more than a year later, I started studying in Seoul again. This time for a whole year! Post study abroad depression for sure is the biggest motivation there is :D (But now, over half of the time here has already passed again ㅠㅠ)
Already finished my study abroad but still watched the whole video 😆 love listening to you talk about your experience hehe
wahh thank you!
I love this video! i'm currently looking at study abroad options in East Asia and this was so informative for a possible option in Korea! Thank you cari!!!! also i love that you're videos are so helpful to a lot of students and foreigners! i've learnt so much about korea from your videos and i now have so many tips for when i visit one day!
im so glad i could help hehe^^
That part you said about you going to Amsterdam and then Seoul gave me flashbacks to 4th grade when i had the opinion to either pick the flute or the drums and orchestra bells and i picked the drums even though my entire life i wanted to play the flute :( sorry this was random but i feel you
I live near amstardam lmao
I'm about to leave to study abroad and this video helped 100000% with my nerves for some reason. So thank you for that!
I miss Yonsei now 😭 I studied counseling, and I am going to get my masters in counseling at theology seminary in Seoul! So maybe see you on the streets!
i miss it too ahhhh and omg how cool!! see you around hehe
thanks for doing this q and a!!! bit worried now tho as im a chemistry major and going to be studying at yonsei this year haha
I love your videos! Your one of my favorite RUclipsrs! Lol
GAH thank you so much!
i leave for my study abroad at Yonsei in 2 weeks so this and all your other videos have been such a help and comfort to me while i’m freaking out about it!!!!! (literally thank you so much) especially when it comes to packing advice/what to wear for winter bc i’m coming from Brisbane, Australia (a city that is mostly hot and sunny) and WINTER DOESN’T EXIST HERE
Gahhhhh have so much fun 😭🙌🙏
The amount of student loans I am accumulating while studying Microbiology is actually terrifying.
Also. I was supposed to actually come to Yonsei this year for Study Abroad, ended up thinking long and hard about it and ended up not coming. Ngl, I kinda really regret it:(
But i'll watch you for like... vicarious satisfaction.
Xx
sometimes its just not possible but im sure one day you'll have the opportunity to explore! most of my science friends couldnt but now they're out saving lives and being amazing so i guess its a good trade hehe
I'm a Japanese and studied at both Yonsei and Sogang uni Several years ago.
Unlike Carie, I went to 2 universities just to study Korean.
IMHO, If you wanna learn Korean for communication not for just writing and grammar. I definitely recommend Sogang.
Sogang and Yonsei are all very prestigious universities in Korea
which all Korean high schoolers dream of.
Both are in Shinchon area which is well known for University town like
Sogang ,Yonsei and Ewha- so called Y.E.S league or Shinchon league.
It's also very near Hongdae and Myungdong area.

I’m leaving for my year abroad at SNU on Monday and i’m so exciteddd! This was perfect timing so thank you 💞
ALSO WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE??? I’m coming from the uk and $35k is insane, my tuition for the year is £1,350 💀
omg have such a great time and RIGHT its like they dont want us to go to school >.>
I feel so happy just to listen to your experience, i hope i can make it in the future for a masters or even just a korean language program.
i hope you can toooo ㅠㅠ
Super interesting! I didn't want to study abroad because I'd miss my family and food, but I would definitely thrive with the Korean cuisine hahaha.
hehehe yes korean food is worht the homesickness tbh!
Im a communication major and international and global studies minor who is interested in studying abroad in Korea, one of the schools my school's study abroad programs works with is Yonsei. This video is very helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience and giving us some insight.
i’m a senior in high school and this past summer i had my first experience both with “studying abroad” (for a short period of time, at least) and living in korea, which meant a lot to me because i’m korean-american and had never really gotten the chance to connect with my extended family before :”) it was brutal just because all of my insecurities surrounding being asian american hit me full force, but i’m so grateful that i did it and your vlogs always make my heart hurt bc i want to go back!! you posted a vlog a bit back where you were in a station where i’d once gotten deeply lost and somehow i still got happy nostalgia HAHAHA but i really hope i can go back to study for a full year or even live there in the future!
(also it was very funny how many 아저씨s immediately recognized me as being korean american! my facial features are very korean but as soon as i walked into restaurants i would get asked if i’m from america. i guess americans just inevitably have that attitude/look to them? lol)
Do you wear makeup? Usually I can tell koreans from korean-Americans from their makeup but also hairstyle and clothes lol
Lia J.
i do wear makeup but probs not in a v korean way if that makes sense HAGAHA i can usually tell korean americans apart from native koreans as well, but i thought it was funny how quick everyone was to comment on it :D
I was out of the country for the past two weeks and I missed your videos soooo much!
heheh welcome back!!
I leave for Yonsei in 12 days, and have been getting super nervous about things now that time's ticking down. This video helped calm me a lot, and was super helpful! Thank you so much!
i hope you have an amazing time!!!
I’m leaving in 3 weeks to study at Sogang University for a semester! I just started watching your videos a few weeks ago while I was searching for videos to prepare for the flight. All your videos have really helped me to calm down and prepare well. Thank you!!
omg yay!! i hope you have an amazing time^^
cari cakes thank you!!
Yay never been this early before ( oh no I am THAT comment now haha) always happy to get your notification and WHAAAT 103k?? I started watching you when you had like 3k ahh congrats!💛🌻
hehehe thank you so much ahh!!
I want to study in Korea not as studying abroad I want to attend the university as a full time student ( full undergrad ) I want to study pre dentistry but I’m already taking Korean classes to learn the language
best of luck to you!!
That's amazing! Good luck! 🧡

lex l want studying master degree too in South Korean this year I’ll be senior inshaallah 🙏🏼
It’s fascinating that we are reaching for something which is so far away! I live 2-3 hours away flight from Korea but (sadly) never wanted to study there, instead I fell in love with London which is bloody far! And I did an MA degree there and am still dreaming every day to return there. I love visiting Seoul now and then though :)
I did a bachelor degree (Korean Studies) in Paris (2 years in Paris and one in Seoul, Hankuk University of Foreign studies), and then a master degree, in Aix en Provence, about korean studies and tourism, Right now, I'm studying korean at Soongsil University (level 5) and so far I really like it very much. One level left and that will be the end of my student life! Teachers at Soongsil University are all very nice and teach in a way that you learn not only via books by also with a lot of fun facts that they have! (sorry for my broken english)
It sounds amazing! It makes me feel like I've really missed out - all of the courses I was looking at didn't offer a year abroad. I'm not sure it's even that common in the UK, it seems to be mostly language students who live abroad!
Next summer I’m going to a korean university summer program, I’m really looking forward to it. It’s still a year away, but I’m really anxious about it ❤️
I studied abroad at Korea University this past Spring but had the chance to explore the Yonsei campus and Sinchon! I miss it so much:,) I wish I had this video preparing to study abroad :,(( Hoping to move back to Korea once I graduate!
This video gave me a lot of information and a lot to think about😄 im currently studying media and communication in london and i have the option to study abroad in yonsei if i want to, so this video was really helpful 🌸
i really really enjoyed my time here so if you can, definitely think hard about going!!
Lorraine im from uk as well, how did you find somewhere to help you study abroad?
I am going to study at Konkuk university next year for a semester! Can't wait ^-^
“The friendships will stay if they’re meant to be” CHEF’S KISS 👩🏽🍳💋
I studied at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, spring semester of this year and it was amazing! I really do think that if you have the opportunity to go abroad and live in another culture for a bit it's a priceless experience that will result in growth, perspectives and empathy. I miss seoul so so much it's actually painful, the post study abroad depression is real and i really wish i could've done it for two semesters instead of only one. I'm definitely going back soon!
Regarding the quality of the education i do have some problems with the korean education system as a whole lmao. But yeah i didn't learn much within my field (sociology) from classes and i did also experience the whole you're-an-exchange-student-you-don't-have-to-do-anything-we'll-pass-you-anyway, so that was interesting. another note: i didn't experience it myself but it did also happen at sungkyunkwan that some professors will speak korean even if it's an english class and you'd just have to drop the class and find a new one which is extremely rude cause if you have requirements from your home uni it can be really difficult to find classes that meets those requirements.
Honestly the whole process of sorting everything out and making it work is an absolute pain in the ass and i almost bailed on going abroad multiple times but when things finally work out it's so worth it and rewarding.
Ummm hunted dorm room sounds scary. Thanks again for sharing your story and vlogging!
hahaha our lights and air conditioning had a mind of their own!
awww so jealous you're able to study abroad! Although my uni is quite good i regret not being to maximize my school days.
I'm so glad you posted this video. I'm literally in the middle of applying for a studying abroad programm in Korea and the video showed me that I really want to do it! 😆
yes!!! its an amazing experience!
OMG ! I am leaving next week for South Korea! I will attend Hanyang University as an undergraduate exchange student! That video couldn't have been more helpful ☺️
wahhhh have a wonderful time!!
I'm in Seoul right now, my 3 summer vacation time.
The more I'm here the more I wanna keep coming to explore, learn and all.
I wanna learn the language more and be little encouraged as I disencouraged myself tooo muchㅠㅠㅠ
Greetings!~💚
i hope you get a chance to study here if you want!!
OOOP- am I- Early..👀👀❤️❤️ #notificationSquad
thank you so so much!!
I'm moving to Seoul in a month to study korean at Kyunghee. Although it's a different university this video still helped me somewhat since I'm currently a mess of excited/nervous/happy/terrified and seeing other people that have done similar things puts me at ease ;3
kyunghee has such a pretty campus!! i hope you have a wonderful time!
This sounds amazing!! But it seems like it's financially consuming- I guess you need lots of 💲💲💲 to make all those wonderful trips to visit your Korean friends post studying abroad!! ❤️❤️
your haunted rooooom lmfao I forgot about that! and the egg omg;;;; THE HULA HOOP. taking over the lounge every day lollllll. this comment is now just a running list of wonderful memories which is exactly what I hoped for when starting this video today! Europe here we commeeeeee
i was trying to explain the hula hoop thing to tina and she didnt remember and i was honestly sad - literally the highlight of our lives hahahhaha
Props to you and to those who are planning to study abroad. Studying abroad was the last thing on my mind during college. Just dealing with college was enough for me. LOL. I thinking back now, would a 19 year old me consider studying abroad? Nope. And as a Korean-American, I wouldn't even consider studying abroad in Korea. So yeah, I'm afraid of trying new things and taking risks. Womp, womp.
Funny dorm story, a friend's dorm was right above the boiler room. So during the midst of winter, it was a sauna in there. HAHAHA!!!!
And the dorms were kinda old. So we weren't allowed to have microwaves. I guess microwaves would overload the wiring. But I said frak that. And I even had an excuse if I was busted. I would have told them that I'm using the microwave for the clock. But I never got busted b/c the RA gave us advanced notice on room inspections. So I just unplugged it and left the plug on top of the microwave. :)
LOOOOOOOOOOOOL I SCREAMED ENOUGH AT THE FACT YOU PUT ME IN THE QUOTE I DIDNT EVEN SEE THE ADVICE TIL MINUTES LATER BC I WAS LAUGHING STOP FOOLING THE PUBLIC INTO THINKING I WAS SOMEONE WHO STUDIED CARI IM CRYIN
BAHAHAHA i mean to be fair you WERE always in the study room so you HAD to be studying right? ;)
@@caricakes i hate this 😂
If you do an internal exchange through your college it’s usually cheaper than programs like ciee or esf. At my school going to Korea would be like 5k and the tuition and financial aid I get at my college can go towards internal study abroad
a lot of universities dont have those unfortunately :( ciee was my only option recognized by my school.
I wish I would have studied abroad in my college days 😢 if I were in college again I would completely change my major and study abroad in Japan. Japan 🇯🇵 has my heart and soul! You make me want to go to Korea too! Hoping for a 2020 trip
i hope you can visit!!
Very informative, thanks
thanks for watching^^
I should be doing the dishes but I am here! I made it!
heheh thank you for choosing me >.
I'm studying abroad at Sogang university for my last semester as an undergrad student! I'll miss my own graduation, but I will have more. I am kind of worried about making friends and the urban shock. I'm originally from a small mining town and my university town isn't a major city like Seoul. Also, I have never been on a plane before so my first time flying will be to Seoul on a 16 hour flight. Pray for me lol. Anyways, you gotta do it and I'm so excited! Thank you for sharing your experience!!!!!!!!
its definitely going to be a great time of personal growth!! i wish you luck and just remember that korea is really safe and that you are stronger than you know!
I'm going to be a sophomore this year, starting very soon! it's a very big dream of mine to study abroad in Korea, thank you for the tips!!
yeeeee just plan ahead and im sure you'll be able to make it happen!! good luck :)
It always blows my mind how much american must pay for uni, I m currently finishing a dual master degree in France and Germany and got litteraly paid for it ! So for those who can't afford an uni exchange year, I would advice you to take an off year to do internships abroad. As I started my application for SNU too late, I simply decided to leave on my own and work as an intern in Seoul : I loved the experience ! It is great for your resume, great for yourself, you can meet new people and dont need to worry for your academics for an entire year 😊
I remember seeing you at the CIEE alumni dinner back in november/december🥺 to anyone whos considering the CIEE program: please do it. Cost is pretty ridiculous lol but worth every cent!!! And i mean that!! Im thinking bout doing it again next spring heh
omg hi!! and yes ahhh! it is SO worth it!
한국어 하실줄아시면 한국어 자막도 있으면 좋겠어요ㅠㅠ❤️❤️ 영상 너무 좋아요!❤️❤️
In Highschool we had a bunch of people that would come from all over and study. I made long time friends with them. Japan, Korea, Iceland, China and Denmark. We are super close to this day. Since I can't travel anymore due to my health they try to make time and bring their families. So, I've become aunts to a lot of their kids.
i truly feel like if everyone had experiences like that the world would be a MUCH better place :')
@@caricakes That is very true.
Waaaaah I'm gonna be a Yonsei exchange student this Fall semester and so nervous! Unfortunately I didn't get into most classes I wanted to get into... so I'm quite sad/nervous about that... but very excited for Korea!!!
i hope you have an amazing time! there is always a chance to change your classes if people drop out so keep an eye out :)
cari cakes oh my GOSH thank you for your reply that is so nice of you! Makes me less nervous! Thank you for the encouragement! 😊
Watching this video literally took me halfway to Korea alrea😭
You are so pretty cari!
I’m trying to convert these American education terms to the ones in the uk but I’m struggling 😭
I’m leaving for Yonsei’s Fall semester in 15 days!!!! Ahhh super excited but nervous 😬💞
I’m doing fall semester at Yonsei too!!! Leaving soon as well and it still hasn’t registered! 😂

@@jenniferca1997 How are you liking it so far? Did you do an exchange program or applied directly to Yonsei?
I graduated last year with my masters and this is making me want to go back to school 😛
hey cari !! thanks so much for the video :) I was wondering what your thoughts were of studying abroad during high school?
Did anyone else from your CIEE group stayed to live and work in South Korea?
a ton of us did! some as teachers, some marketing, and some for scholarships and research!
I would really love to study abroad for a year in soul (I'm going into 2nd year uni) but I'm so lost on which university to go to T0T
Also the post study abroad depression is way too real😩😩 and im not just talking bout being sad about leaving, but you can really feel the somberness and depression going on during the last few days just about everything. I cry about a lot of different things, but crying on the last day of my study abroad was some different shit... like.. it really did something to my soul lmao. Thinking about even the possibility of going back to seoul is really whats keeping me going in my life rn
i truly think i scared the man sitting next to me on the plane because of how loud i was sobbing (my friends wrote me letters which made it even worse hahahhaa)
I didn't study abroad but lived in Japan at 19 and I can totally relate. 💙
영상 잘 보고 갑ㄴ니다 ❤️❤️💖💖
I laughed so hard when you said, "3000 years of med school and now she's a doctor.." but true! med school feels like a million years🤣
I wish I had the same mindset as you did. I never thought of studying abroad mainly coz I wouldn't be able to afford it, living in a 3rd world country and all, but also coz my school and major did not offer it. Post-college travel would definitely be amazing tho. Not only would it open your eyes to different cultures, but it also lets you meet new people. I think if I was given the opportunity to travel during college and post-college years, I would have taken it instead of going straight from highschool to undergrad to med school. Honestly, I'm just emotionally and mentally drained and have delayed my specialty training for 3 years. Live life before you end up burned out.
It's pretty cool seeing the people who are going to Study Abroad at Yonsei this next academic year... Like me :)
have a great time!
ahh omg i’m starting uni next year and i‘ve been seriously thinking of majoring in east asian studies...did you enjoy it and do you think it’s worth taking alone or do you recommend double majoring (as i don’t necessarily know what career path i’d like to follow yet!) thank u so much^^
Even though I'm from Europe I still find this video very helpful. I'm starting university next month majoring in europian and global studies and I'll find a job so I can study abroad my last year.
Also like 34k, girl I'll work my whole life to save up this much money, wow. Loved your video, as always!
