This controller is so cool. This color is also fairly rare because it got discontinued after a nice cease and desist by Nintendo. So glad I bought one when it was new
The most ironic SNES-like controller I've seen yet. The original started the design that PlayStation and Xbox followed, and this aftermarket one made it resemble the PS1's.
You do know the original wii has ports at the top when you open the compartments so you can plug in a GC controller and memory car and pit in a GC disk to play it without any special fancy shamamcy application
All homebrew have their own USB support. For example I have two versions of Snes emulator, once specifically made to support PS3 controller. It will be really hit or miss for other stuff.

So i was looking for the one side-controller "to rule them all" so to say. I already have Dualshock 3 connected via usb, but its quite sloppy and not very comfortable. I was also considering dualshock 1/2 adapter for wiimote(wii classic alternative sort of) but people said that its also hit & miss in terms of emulators compatibility. im guessing now that need to have a bunch of them for different homebrews.
The controller I use with Wii the most is the Wii Classic Pro knockoff. Looks identical, doesn't feel as good, but for me is good enough 🙂 it's compatibile almost with everything you can throw at it, so for ~$8 it was for mine, I'm quite happy with it.

Can you please show what kind of USB you use? I'm trying with my 8BitDo Pro 2, and it doesn't work at all. It recognizes a controller is plugged in, but none of the buttons work.
It was the USB-C cable that was in the box with the controller. Make sure it's plugged in to USB port close to the Wii's edge before you turn on your Wii and that the controller is in MacOS mode. I have only tested this with 8-bitDo SF-30 Pro (not pro 2), so it may be different for you 😔 I know that there are USB controller mappings for Nintendont so it may be possible to make it work, but I never tried that. This worked by default for me.
I tried few of my USB ones and none of them worked. I think it's possible if you have a specific configuration file for a controller (there's one for PS3 Dualshock for sure) or you can create a config file that will work with yours. This is the only controller I have that worked out of the box for me.
All I had to do is put the 8bitdo in macOS mode ☺️ it worked with Nintendont without any changes. You may need to use USB port 1 (one that's close to thinner back boarder).

It's just it's name. In reality (if I understand this correctly) it acts as a different USB HID device type and this is also the only USB gamepad I have that worked with Nintendont out of the box. In this mode it also changes the triggers and bumpers into a throttles (so you get additionally 2 axises instead of buttons, but in the Nintendont they still act like buttons for some reason. If you have another gamepad there is a way to add a new config for some of them and map buttons for Nintendont (I think you need to read your controller on a Wii with additional utility and then add a config yourself, but I newer went for this). Maybe some wireless USB controllers, but I didn't had any luck with any that I have. I bought a knockoff Wii Classic Pro controller and use it this way ☺️
Nintendon't is compatibile with some USB controllers. I think there is a mapping for a PS3 sixaxis over USB and there should be one avaliable for some of the Xbox controllers too. Thanks to several modes on the 8bitDo, it seems to work just fine in the MacOS mode out of the box 😁

Yeah the Apple mode replicates a dualshock 4 controller with use for ios devices so I can see how that would work with nintendont but the short shows the hand/cursor in the wii menu. I thought the 8bitdo was replicating a classic controller but clearly it would only work in nintendont. Short is somewhat misleading
