I help people with emetophobia. Your dispassionate delivery and hand drawings are helpful in the later stages of my process. It’s actually a miraculous and marvellous process.
A couple months ago I was in the ER because I had black stools and was concerned that I might have had gastrointestinal bleeding. At any rate, I was situated by the nurses' station while two women in my vicinity started throwing up.I had to plug my ears.
The best answer there is! Short and concise. Really helpful for all of us who have been trying to understand more where is this symptom coming from. Thank you so much! :)
just amazing... i m reading the courses and can t understand anything. the moment i Watch your videos, everything makes sense! just genius. thanx a lot!!!!!
I was watching this when I was about too puke cause I got curious even tho I was on the edge of vomiting I managed to not vomit yet because of this video so far so good
Hey Armando, I'm a medical student who has been watching your content for years (I think I started when I was studying for the mcat ~2 years ago!) I love your videos and find them incredibly helpful and entertaining, but did you used to have an intro song? It's been stuck in my head for years and I can't find it- it's killing me and I would love to know the source. Anyway, keep up the solid work!

Hi Armando, I have a couple of questions that I have been googling without finding a satisfactory answer. First, what is the exact relation between vomiting and hypoglycemia? From my understanding, it has something to do with compensatory responses (release of glucagon and adrenaline) but I can't quite put my finger on it. And second, why do we vomit during a flight or fight situation? Does the command come from the higher centers (the cortex) or is adrenaline directly involved by binding to receptors in the GI tract? I don't understand how this hormone can cause vomiting since it lowers GI motility. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work. I love your videos.
Interesting questions; I know that insulin-induced hypoglycemia stimulates the CN X afferent fibers which will at the end lead to stimulation of the CN X efferent fibers and in turn to incr. gastric acid production. I guess the extra amount of acid produced this way can also lead to stimulation of enterochromaffin cells? I could also think about the symp. NS being on overdrive, and a way to forcefully "calm down" (bcs the heart etc. has it's limitations, too) is via heavy CN X activation (the reason why ppl urinate in case of extreme fear/ danger) -> activation of CN X could then again lead to enterochromaffin cells being stimulated. I'll ask my professor and let you know :-)
I get nauseous when I get jealous (Yes I always get jealous it's a crush thing haha, it's something I hate about myself) anyways, this explains it. Thank you too for helping us Medical Students!! ♥
As a kid, I always wanted to avoid vomiting if possible, it was very traumatic for me, the feeling of arising nausea and then the cringing internal pain.
i have had that since i was a kid too! I'm 21 now and it still didn't go away. I developed a phobia for it and every day i'm very afraid to be nauseous or vomit because i don't want to feel that bad. It sucks haha
Hey Armando ..your videos are really worthfull to look at .. Only one thing that I wanted to ask was that ,that white board sketches are stuffs out of software or are solely hand drawn?
Would damage to the labyrinth cause vomiting? And would constant vomiting cause ulcers in the stomach and damage to everything vomit passes through on its way out? If so, would that in turn cause a patient to be misdiagnosed with Gerd?
i've had nausea in my throat for the last year, everyday. I've done all the test from an endoscopy, multiple blood test and everything seems right. What could this be?
Do previous experiences affect what triggers the vomiting center? I'm asking because one weekend I was drinking vodka and had a bit too much a bit too quick and ended up puking violently. I never had a problem drinking it straight but now if I have one shot, I start gagging like mad and get nauseous. I can drink anything else straight though, just not vodka anymore.
Does ctz not work in normal condition?.mu and delta are opioid receptors.when we get opioid more opioids go from blood to ctz.but opioid depress neuro transmetor relese so should not occur vommiting.but when we get more opioid vomiting occurs.so how this happen?
I'm a Med student dealing with Pathophysiology and I can't tell even begin to tell you how much this helped!! Keep up the great work
i helped me a lot while i was studying about anti emetics.

Aren’t the visceral afferences going primarily to the trigger zone instead of directly to the vomiting center? Great video :)
