    Sony feels way more warmer and natural though. Is anyone else feeling this? JBL is kinda tinny on EDM and that folk track.

      absolutely since Sony always equalized bass and treble that is why Sony always sounds natural and warmer to the human ear

      That's because the jbl is in a tube, like place an old iPhone with a mono speaker facing your palm, the sound gets louder, the tube is just echoeing the sound it feels, its not natural sound, it sounds like when music is playing inside a club and your outside. lol

    I hear more things with the XB40. To me the bass on the xtreme overshadows all the other ranges. The XB40 seems more balanced and detailed.

  • @intcrown
    @intcrown 7 лет назад +23

    The xtreme really gets noisy when music is played at high volume, especially the higher pitched sounds start to screech. The Sony one sounds a bit more balanced to my ears.

    I have to say, that you are doing by far the best speaker comparisons on the tube! Great thanks for this. I am always enjoying watching and HEARING them. To these two speakers I have to say, that it seems to be hard to beat the JBL if someone does not want to spent 500 or 600 Euros or Dollar. But the Bass of the Sony is impressive at lower volume. So You did very well, to show that so explicit! I am from Germany and I am glad that I found this channel!

    When it comes to the Sony XB20, XB30, and XB40 you have to use their “Sony Music Center” app and go into the sound settings and turn the mids and treble up to +5 minimum to get them to truly shine.

      Sam Jim I would buy the xtreme but I think it's too big, I could easily bring them both along for parties or walks at the beach or sth because the xtreme has a carrying handle, but taking it out of the country or across the country would be difficult due to it not fitting in a bag/backpack.

      Rattfratz not sure about that. also jbl doesen’t boost bass at lower levels, wich is important, and also jbl boost bass at 75hz it acutally distorts on some songs. and jbl is just way too hard in the treble area(for my personel taste.) sony is much better if you tweak it. it also goes down much deeper than the jbl. and sony is in much better price point for real!

    JBL sounds good... but I own two XB30 and an XB40 which I bought when they were on great sale's and they really are impressive speakers. Especially the volume. They were even louder than a few Marshall Bluetooth speakers I tested them against. I will say this about the Sony speakers which I use more for listening to Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and even talk radio at times. First thing if you listen to Rock music is get the Sony app and adjust the sound levels. Raise the mids and treble pretty high with the bass just under them. I don't even use the Bass boost for certain types of music because these speakers already deliver a pretty nice bass. I would say the Sony XB30 is the best speaker in it's price range and the most versatile for all kinds of music genre's and the loudest for it's size.

    I wanted to chime in since I have owned all these speakers. Jbl Flip3, Charge 2+, Charge 3 and Xtreme. Now I have the Sony XB20, XB30 and XB40.
    So, JBL definitely set the standard in all of their speakers. My number one with JBL is the Charge 3. It's nearly the perfect portable speaker, but may be outshined by the XB30 for the price difference. Good mid bass punch, nice mids and okay highs. The highs on all JBL speakers can get harsh at full volume though in my opinion. The Xtreme is awesome but I find it to be somewhat annoying to carry around. I'd rather just take my Braven XXL if I'm going to need a shoulder strap and have decent true low bass. The Xtreme has excellent punch but only for mid bass..and it's definitely too boomy for indoor use. It's mids are good but highs can get piercing. The worst thing about JBL is the passive drivers on the ends. It makes all of their speakers susceptible and it would have been so easy to design a protective mesh for the ends. I was never able to throw my JBL speakers in a backpack without being paranoid. I didn't like that. It also makes all of their speakers sound slightly hollow. But they do all have reliable sound, water resistance and are very rugged.
    Now with Sony....i find more sound balance, better prices and no issues with shrill highs at max volume. The XB30 is my favorite in their line up. It's $89 at best buy whereas the Charge 3 still remains above $120. The XB30 sounds more balanced and refined if you turn up the bass and highs on the eq. It also has lower bass db than the JBL Charge 3 and has a louder high volume. Now, the XB40 is excellent too in my experience, despite the mixed reviews. It really just seems like a larger version of the XB30. If you get in and adjust the EQ settings they nearly sound identical with the XB40 being slightly louder with deeper bass. It is a very nice speaker for $150.
    So to help with this video review...if you want loud and boomy for pool parties and camping...get an Xtreme. It's a very nice speaker for the size but not for the price of $220. But know you won't be throwing this in your backpack to take with you. And since the mid-range bass is so boomy in this it makes it nearly unlistenable indoors. The XB40 is a better all around speaker if you want to be able to do alot more with it. You can actually throw this in your backpack or just carry it with you as it's just a bigger XB30 and has no passive radiators exposed. And even though it's smaller than the JBL, it actually reaches deeper bass notes where the Xtreme just doesn't play certain low frequencies. It's also half the size of the Xtreme but gets nearly as loud at max volume without distortion. The mid bass on the Xtreme will reach further though. The XB40 also sounds great indoors or outdoors with the xtra bass button choice and EQ tweaked on the app. The only weakness I found in the Sony speakers is the annoying battery issue. It cuts the volume majorly at under 20% battery life and basically makes it not even listenable. So really the JBL speakers are probably going to have twice the battery life than the Sony's if that's important to you.
    So there's my experiences, hope it helps!

    i have a jbl xtreme and i was looking to buy the sony.. glad i didn't, sony sounds tinny and a bit hollow by comparison.. that is until you started playing dance stuff then the sony started to compare a bit better but that's all i can say. The low level stuff is borderline pointless because its a BASS speaker, not a small room speaker. It clearly peaks it's bass threshold prety early.

    btw for those who want to know all the latest jbl s have a weird bass mode(idk how to call it) that you can activate by holding down the bluetooth and volume down buttons until the battery leds flash. NOT RECOMENDED. you could harm the speaker in full volume because the dangerous frequences are not controlled by the amplifier.(spoiler: low base in that mode is orgasmic)

    I've heard both of these speakers at best buy they were side by side the jbl extremely drowns out mids and it's sounds like synthetic bass and at high volume distorts really bad I guess depending on which kind of music you hear it like hip hop the SRS was clear and at high volume you heard every instrument and vocals and mids the Bass sounded powerful with out distortion at high volume the extreme to me is good at low volume anyway I bought the SRS-XB40

    their small speakers....the rule is...the bigger the speaker the more bass you'll get....is why they use passive radiators which moves along with the air that the original speakers are pushing.....and Sony thought it would be a great idea to boost the bass and use "extra bass" aka "bass booster" causing the bass to clip.....confusing but if your into car audio you'll know what I'm talking about

    At first, it thought JBL sounded better with stronger bass and smoother vocals.
    but after listening to the actual music video i find that the sony is far more realistic than the JBL.
    though this, is of course subjective since i know that a lot of people just love bass (muddy or not) and the balance sound signature.
    But for me personally, i would take the Sony any day.Not only does it have eq, from what i've heard the eq currently activated in the video caters to close distance listening , which is why the treble,bass,and mids are recessed when listening in the video.

    I have the SRS XB3 after unboxing I played music from my phone and at first, I am disappointed at the sound quality.
    But when I adjust the EQ settings at my phone a great sound quality has came out from the XB3.
    In my opinion sony has giving a choice to control the speaker according to your sound taste.
    Hope sony will fix that volume in connection with the sound or the drivers amps. Sound should be better produce at higher volume (Bass, Mids, Treble).

      Mig K Yes I do and if you have not had both of them to hear for yourself then it's no need for me to reply back to you because I have both of them and the JBL hits much harder than the Sony. I will admit the Sony is cleaner in the bass but it does not go down as low as the Extreme does. It's your money so by all means go out and support that trash of a Bluetooth speaker if you want. But if you want the better sounding speaker all around than get the Extreme.

    • @troybrownentertainment2324
      @troybrownentertainment2324 7 лет назад

      clavinetjunkie It also depends on what type of music you listen to as well to determine which speaker you will go with. I listen to bass heavy music so therefore it's no contest in this department because the JBL has a MUCH better sound quality overall than the Sony. I listen to music such as R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae to name a few. Plus the JBL never really changed their sound that much at higher level compared to the Sony where you need to take the bass off all together if you really want to hear some quality music. But hey it's your money do whatever you like but for me JBL all day

      Charge 3 20W XB30 40W = Charge3 brtter than XB40? XB 40 a littlebit better than my XB30 which has WAY more bass and much louder than Charge 3.. Sony is made for outdoor parties, and charge 3 for 2-3 people come together

    It seems like in sony srs-xb 40 the bass is inversely proportional to the volume. It would have been better if the sony srs-xb 40 had consistent sound at all volumes.

    I went to a shop to test XB-40 and Extreme, for me Sony is much better.

    The JBL Xtreme has an extra bass mode as well, if you hold down the bluetooth and the volume up button it will reset and the subs will be put to max power on 50% volume! just thought I'd let you know if that changes anything :)

    In my opinion I prefer the Sony, the 2 speakers are so good but the JBL is bigger and the different in bass mode is very small

    A bit random but I noticed the left side of the XB40 is way havier then the right side kinda annoying.

    I think sony is better because the sony has some kind of hollowing and spatial sound to it, while jbl doesn't and has a straight forward sound. Maybe it because of the subwoofer driver behind sony's speaker

  • @nickrupp4394

    At best buy the extreme runs for about 299$ at the same story the Sony xb40 runs for 175$ so of course if you spend 100 extra dollars the speaker is going to be better... I went with xb40 for the price tag. And the pulse 3 looks to easy to break in my opinion.

    Sony produces much warmer non-irritating treble and with extra bass on, it produces a more balanced sound. But JBL is louder.

    Why do people do sound battles against the Xtreme? It has a Little boosted bass by just use an EQ! You have one in Spotify, Sony is horrible just go with Jbl! A question, what combination is the best, one Xtreme and one flip 3 or 2 charge 3

  • @AudioyMas
    @AudioyMas 7 лет назад

    The sony is compact and good material, apart has very good bass and for my taste I prefer sony and I have seen many videos of these two speakers and noticed that at the beginning of the volume jbl has better fidelity but by increasing the volume jbl the sound is bad At least for me it is very clear that this can be improved with the equalizer this is my opinion umilde.

    Actually I watched this video for several times already, and I finally figured out that the JBL xtreme is getting a bit louder and a bit more bass when it’s plugged in, while the Sony was doing nothing while it was being plugged, if the Sony’s EQ was being tuned, the XB40 maybe can having similar bass level as the JBL xtreme...(this is just my personal opinion)

    GREAT REVIEW!! THANKS MAN!
    ESPECIALLY THAT BIT AT THE END ABOUT THE POWER!!
    Man, that's a game changer and would make that thing USELESS at a beach or BBQ, for instance. Who cares about 20 hours if you're at 40% an hour before the end.... wow. Top Notch Review.

    It's a fact that Sony xb 40 doesn't sound too good in its highs, but with eq ( not done in this video I believe), increase its treble level and it will sound better than jbl.

      Tommy Mercy full rangers just cant compete with tweeters even with eq. Oh and btw adjusting eq will probably cause distortion and roll off at higher volume. And clip the preamp in your phone

      And in the bass department,almost nothing can be done to sound as good as the Xtreme.
      Just accept that the JBL is better

    I think maybe with proper use of an equalizer, the sony could sound better than what it is. But JBL is far superior (at a more expensive price, though.)
