    I disagree with the reviewer. If you don't like the warm signature of the Sony XG300, then adjust it with the app. It's not a problem, so why whine about it? But consider this: the Sony XG300 is charged via USBC - and most of us have several USBC cables kicking around everywhere. By contrast, the JBL Xtreme 3 has a non-USB charging cable with a big brick built into it. Lose it and you're out of luck. Bring it with you, and it's bulky. Also, the Sony uses Bluetooth 5.2 which will keep your phone's battery from wearing down quickly.

    Choice between Sony and JBL
    Is more like
    Choice between music and noise
    There is no chance of enjoying music on JBL at 100 percent volume, it becomes noise.

      If you want an opinion of a seasoned nerd and I wager you don't want, they both sound pretty crap. I deal with boomboxes and vintage Hi-Fi of the 80s and 90s and these little machines they all sound pretty awful. Yes, they managed to get a 50 Hz response with passive radiators but the frequencies and instruments are all over the place scattered across... the highs seem to come straight out of a sanding block with 300 grit sand paper.
      Pretty much the same awful experience I've always had LIVE when I paired my idiotic-phone to one of those smart-speakers. The only thing they have of smartness is the amount of profit they bring for their commissioners.... you wouldn't really believe that JBL and SONY developed in house these trash cans? If that were true it would surely pass as a warning of the incredibly sorry state of the Hi-Fi market today.

    Just a heads up for people watching this NOW or almost in 2024. I bought the JBL XTREME 3 brand new a year ago and have used it everyday in my shop at about 85% level because my shop is loud in the department I work in and the speakers have blown!!!!!! My co worker bought the Sony XG300 before I bought the JBL and was also used in a different department at around the same level of 85% and it's still works perfectly. Something to consider is longevity and Sony so far has won in that department!!!!!

  • @ScutuRC
    @ScutuRC 11 месяцев назад +7

    For me the XG 300 was the obvious choice... and here's why:
    - I already have other SONY products and the app is already there
    - Longer battery Life
    - Call Function
    - LDAC support for hight bitrate sound quality
    - Frequency output is better (more flat) than JBL's
    - The strap brings no benefit as the speaker stays in one place all the time
    - Lights are a nice touch
    - Battery care feature helps you avoid overcharging
    ....
    What's your reason other than the extra 10% of volume, which is useless since you're not listening at max volume all the time, and the brighter sound which can be fixed with the eq? :)

    You had mega bass on during the comparison; that is not the base EQ, it’s a bass boost. It’s not a fair test, of course it will sound bassier at the expense of mids and highs with that setting enabled. You should have at least done a comparison with it switched off, it’s downright deceptive to A/B them with one handicapped like that.

    • @MrMotor11
      @MrMotor11 8 месяцев назад +3

      This is a problem with some of the reviewers, I've seen and heard others where the Sony XG300 was just as crisp and clean as the JBL, if not more so. The testing being done with "stock" settings is meaningless unless the reviewer gets into the EQ and makes sure to match similar EQ settings because the latter device is capable of much more than what is stock / middle of the road out of the box.

    Bro you just have to wrong settings in the gx 300 when you activate the mega Bass its quite obvious that the Bass is more in the Front so the Volume is increased a bit...but when you Customise the speaker in the app or for example the Equalizer the Sound gets quite a bit better and sounds for my opinion very good. Using LDAC with FLAC files of either 16 bit 44.1 khz or 24 bit 96 khz I thought the wireless playback was not all that bad. I tried out the speaker in the store using my phone. After the bad review I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it is a lot worse with a 128kbit/sec MP3. I guess that the higher res files that contain much more mid and high information or frequencies will inject life into the playback of this Sony speaker. I have the SRS-X88 for reference which is a very open speaker with a wide soundstage and gives exceptional playback and unbelievable clarity. I also have the SRS- HG1 perhaps the best battery speaker Sony ever made and the only one I know of with hi res playback.

    I came close to buying the XG300 back in late 2022 when it was on a great sale, but I decided not to do it. It had nothing to do with this comparison, I just wanted to see what other companies besides the big names like JBL Sony, Bose, and Ultimate Ears are offering, or what was going to be released in 2023. Besides, it seems like you get much more for your money if you go with other choices besides the big well-known brand names.
    I was looking at the Tribit Stormbox Blast as a possibility, but then the Soundcore Motion X600 was released in mid 2023, and I think that's the next one. I don't need another speaker, I have a few already, including the 1st Gen Marshall Emberton. Sometimes you see the new updated technology and you just have to try it. Some people like to collect baseball cards, coins or stamps --- Hey, whatever works.

    I’m just so disappointed with the XG300. It’s significantly worse than my previous XB series. Not only that but without running music THROUGH the Music App it sounds muffled and low res. I was replacing my Tribit $40 speaker and that one sounds cleaner and clearer than the XG300. The xg gets louder but way more muffled. I’m trying to find another XB speaker but it’s hard. The aux 3.5 input also runs in the low res sounding mode. I can’t use the music center app because Apple Music runs horribly and the app takes a long time to load each time you go back to it. I said this in another review but not a single review again, shows the Aux and nearly all don’t show it without the Music Center running. I’m trying to see find an actual good clean sound speaker so I can return the xg 300. I loved the Tribit so I’m thinking either their Stormbox or JBL. I need louder than what the $40 is offering , which again sounds very good, surprisingly good.
    I should also note that the xg300 sounds fantastic WITH the music center but you NEED to run your music through it, having it have access to your library. Accessing Apple Music songs are hit and miss in the Music Center App. So if I skip the music center app and just use the iPhone normally like any other bt app in existence then the sound is the worst sound I’ve heard in all my years of owning so many bt speakers. So you’re poo out of luck if you also enjoy watching and listening to Music videos via RUclips since the music center app doesn’t support it (only RUclips music but I like watching the videos or Live concerts).
    Thank You for the video. I was thinking of getting the Xtreme 2 but I’m willing to spend the extra for the 3, otherwise I’ll get a Stormbox.

    Always test it in a shop yourself. I've always watched reviews like these comparing jbl with other brands (usually sony). I was thinking about getting a JBL partybox 100w and found it in a shop while browsing other tech with a friend, and right next to it was the sony xp500. Every video I watched comparing those 2 had jbl sounding AMAZING while Sony would always sound lame. But the difference in the shop was night and day. Sony was louder, had clearer sound and the bass was better too (compared all bass modes on both speakers). Don't base your decision on a youtube review. Please go in the shop and listen to them yourself, some may like JBL better, some may like Sony better. If I were to go based on the youtube vids i would've gotten JBL. But after testing it IRL Sony blew my mind away and at a cheaper price it was a no brainer.

    Just bought one and also own an XB43. I bought one after hearing it in a shop, but also a big JBL fan, so after watching this I was a little worried.
    Yes I think Sony has scored an own goal. However when the XB43 was released the sound on that was very closed. In later updates it became more open.
    There is alot to like about this speaker. The basis for something very good is there. There's plenty of base, I think there's better clarity over the XB43, I also prefer the looks. The lights- that may be better at night creating a shodow effect. I was never a fan of the lights of the xb43 anyway.
    When I bought my XB43, it was more as a competitor for the charge 4, which it was as it offered way more base. As Sony has slashed the price to £199, it again puts it in that charge 5 territory, which if Sony can make it just a bit more open, makes the XG300 the logical choice.
    There isn't much that will compete with an Xtreme 3, likewise a Party box 100/110. It's the small home speaker where Sonynatural competition lies, the XB43 proved to be a winner, now they need to do the same with the XG300.

    In terms of design, JBL speakers look like a bunch 12 years old kids gathered in a room with task to design a "cool" looking speaker. And I'm speaking about JBL in general. Sony has much more sleek and elegant design, and this concrete speaker could fit literally any environment, from your living room, to the beach. Now imagine this JBL sitting on your living room tv stand / chest of drawers. 🙃
    When it comes to sound, I think this comparison is quite biased, and the "not even close" is a definition of clickbait title. For the particular song you chose the Sony output might seem a bit muffled, but JBL is overexposing mid and high freqs, like we used to set on our winamps 2 decades back, to have illusion of "better" sound. I still prefer the balanced sound of XG300, and in terms of sheer appearance - it's not even close.
