Gyara's definitely my favorite Pokemon on Red's team because of his unusual personality. You'd expect a Gyarados to be angry murder-raging all the time, but Gyara only gets like that if Team Rocket is involved. Instead, he's like a cuddly, over-affectionate puppy who just wants to make friends.
Fun fact, due to his time in the Pokemon Safari, Red would be a grass, poison, or ground type specialist going off how many different pokemon of each type he has caught
Red has 4 unique Grass, Poison, and Ground types:
Grass: Venusaur, Victreebel, Exeggcute, Parasect
Poison: Venusaur, Victreebel, Nidoking, Nidoqueen
Ground: Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Sandshrew, Diglett
I thought this was interesting cause I always imagined him to be a water or flying type specialist since those types overlap on his main squad, being Poliwrath, Gyarados, and Aerodactyl.
I love Red's team I do wish his Epseon and Snorlaz got more screen time bc they put in work. Red having a espeon just fits him. It ties him to gen 2 and the red from the gen 2 games. My favorite of his is probably his Pikachu. It carried Yellow in her Chapter and its just one of his best pokemon
Actually, I liked Red for having Poli as his first Pokémon, it just made his team more creative and unique.

One thing I really love of Red’s Pikachu is that it took a long time for him to fully trust Red & to not shock him constantly. Unlike Ash, whose Pikachu trusted him immediately after one episode.
I wish Snorlax & Aerodactyl showed off their personality more.

2:34 at the very least you can say that their is a reason why red keeps pika the way he is because pika is one of the few small agile Pokémon on his roster since half of his team are large heavyweights.
3:41 let it be said that Snor is likely the most agile and athletic snorlax in record history since we have seen Snor run on its own strength without needing Z energy gimmicks.

i've always liked pokespe red's team. I love that he's shown to be affectionate towards all of his pokemon (even sandshrew , which he only used once iirc ) .
red may be the fighter , but to me, he always seemed like an animal lover (or pokemon lover ) more than anything

I'm forever grateful that I stumbled upon this manga series. This is the closest that we can get to the games that we played as kids. Its also the manga series that I want to own in complete tankobon format (although I only have Volumes 1-6 at the moment)
The reason for Red's Pokemon being all males was because genders wasn't a thing until the 2nd gen came out

Back in Platinum I used a Poliwrath to see how it did, and to my surprise it helped carry my team
I’ve noticed that “classic” Red is often depicted with Venusaur, whereas “modern” Red is often depicted with Charizard (Classic and Modern can be told apart from their designs). I wonder if there’s ever been an official piece of media where he’s depicted with Blastoise as his partner?
Edit: idk if this counts, but in The Subspace Emissary in Smash Bros Brawl, he starts out with just Squirtle, before catching Ivysaur and Charizard.

You missed the 900 base power megabolt from the yellow final battle. Or does it not count because Pika was under Yellow's care at the time of use?
I’ve never really considered megavolt as a real move more like a cool manga thing so I didn’t include it

honestly, I’ve used a Poliwhirl in USUM and immediately took it off my team, it was kinda ass 😭 but i have done a Manga team run of Pokemon X with X’s team and Pokèmon Alpha Sapphire with Sapphire’s team.

I sometimes wonder the reason behind the dexholder teams, like what's the reason for x pokémon. Because in red's case i can see the why behind poli, saur and pika, but not with gyara, aero and snor

Snor probably because there’s two in the game that block your path so it’s a forced encounter
For aero and gyara I don’t know
maybe aerodactyl is just meant to represent the fossil pokemon, since it's sort of a special thing in the gen 1 games.
How would you build your pokemon team irl assuming you're about to go on a long and dangerous trip through pokemon filled wilds with only occasional towns here and there?
Actually come and think about it, for red having eevee evolve to Espeon, who is said to evolve in the morning sun with a high friendship stat really says alot about red, who managed to capturs it from team rocket.

For those saying that Ash can't beat Red, consider these points:
1. The specials universe has a different ruleset when it comes to battles compared to the anime. We don't know how buck wild Ash can get if he were to enter the manga universe, especially since we have the remaining pints to consider;
2. Journeys Ash has developed and homed.his Aura Powers. Yes, Ash has superpowers that he uses to nuff up to two "mega" Pokemon at the same time (Lucario and Ash-Greninja).
2. Ash canonically has super-strength and in great physical condition. Seriously, look at how he deals with team rocket. Kid just leaps like 10 feet into rhe air to save Pikachu.
3. Ash has Tapu Koko's blessing and is the official trainer of Solgaleo.
4. Ash has the Lucario/Riolu that was originally meant to be Cynthia's.
5. Ash raised some newly-caught random pokemon to champion level in what is canonically like a few weeks.
6. He beat Leon who, based on Journeys, is basically an older version of him and a pseudo-counterpart to Red.
Ash is no joke. I would even argue that he surpassed Red during the DPP finale arc. Take off your nostalgia glasses.
But do keep in mind, Im6not saying that Red is weak, far from it. I'm just saying that Ash is on a whole nother league of his own, and that's following the family-friendly rules of the anime too.
I mean....I feel like anyone who has nostalgia glasses for Red also has it for Ash lol
But I agree, I think Ash would win. In an all out no-rules fight (which Red is supposed to specialize in) Ash just has to many advantages. Mega Evolution and a Z move? (Dynamax as well if it takes place in a gym) That Z move is basically a guaranteed 1 hit K.O and Ash just has a higher variety of Pokemon.
He has an answer for everyone of Red Pokemon
Any of his powerful flying types for Poli

I feel like Pika would fight Pikachu lol- Which Pikachu would win (Even in a fight between Yellow and Ash- Pika can only produce a 1,000,000 volt thunderbolt and Ash's has a 10,000,000 volt thunder bolt)

@@stanleydude3340 Ash's Charizard is not his strongest fire type, its Infernape, always has been. Journeys made it clear that Infernape is the main go-to if he ever wanted to use a fire type.
Also, the only nostalgia people have for Ash is that he's weak. That's why people think he's weak, when the series makes it clear that, past gen 5, he's already an E4 - level trainer, he just happens to train different pokemon per region.
In that regard, Ash is basically a combination of Green, Red, and X from the manga.
To me Ash is a joke. He’s not a character he’s a culmination of 20+ years of stagnation. He didn’t develop into what he became by the end of his story he spent most of that time doing the same thing over and over again region to region got a single league win in the most humiliation state you can be (on vacation almost saying that the bar has been set so low that the standard had to be reduced so much for ash to accomplish something despite his years of traveling) and now everyone thinks he’s some big shot. And despite this only one season later and they put his story to bed despite finally going somewhere significant to his goal.
Ash is no luffy. Ash has spent decades spinning his wheels without consequence til he finally got a lucky break.
@@lunerblade13 lucky break my ass. If you actually watched the show, the E4 and champions of every region have been watching him closely, seeing the potential that was not realized until journeys.
But to be fair to Ash, he was supposed to be champion by Johto or Hoenn, and even more so by Sinnoh, but he's cursed with being the mascot anime character for Pokemon that he had to be reset every new region.
That being said, every new region he raises NEW Pokemon and makes them at least conference-level. Most other trainers, E4, and champions only ever trained what they currently use. The only other trajner who does what ash does is Paul, and even he is nearly on-par with Ash.
Its just unfortunate that Ash got stuck as a mascot instead of an actual anime character. If it were not for the backlash of gne 8 and the popularity of pokemon go, he would have been in his 20s by now and would have convinced people that he is world champion. But despite the limitstions imposed upon them, the writers always made it clear that Ash has that potential, he was just made to lose time and time again by the Pokemon Company.

Charizard is a flying fire type which means it has a wider arsenal of moves to deal super effective damage if Red some how get rids of the fire- But like Infernape or Charizard can beat Venasaur, it's just whether or not Ash feels like using a dragon or Sun Wu kong on that day lol

Spoilers for the RGB chapter: Giovanni tells Red that his plan of using Viridian Forest as a planning stage with all the Pokemon Team Rocket stole and experimented on; that’s also the reason they were shown as early as Chapter 1-2 chasing down Mew; Giovanni was trying to play 4D chess

I don't know if it was intentional, but I find it interesting that Red's and Blue's primary teams don't use a pokemon of the type of the others respective starter (Red not using any fire types and Blue not using any grass types). Probably worded it weirdly.

True but given that he has a Poliwrath and other types, he doesn’t necessarily need fire. Even just full six of his pokemon covers 91.9% of all the currently existing pokemon. while fire would be nice it only adds a minor half percent whereas dark is where he needs a move in for a majority.
Fire and fairy only covers for 2% for super effective damage. He also has powerful normal type moves to compensate and mega evolution. :0
