Another possible tip: when my horse was being spooky my trainer told me to keep looking where I'm going. I didn't realize that every time he was being naughty or we were going past something scary i would start to intently watch his head and ears. This shifted my body weight just enough for him to notice and subconsciously was telling him there was about to be a problem.
ya same
Gosh, my trainer grinds that into me contastntly, the lesson horse I ride (Huckleberry) has a habit of wanting to return to the fence when we're doing trot circles. She's told me to prepare for it before we reach the corner, lean into my inside shoulder and shortern my reins. Loooking where you're going is super important.
This was brilliant. Good for you. I’ve been saying for years many riders are on the bit way too much, and don’t use their body balance, and legs 90% more instead of reins. The true mark of partnership between horses and us is shown in riding with no tack. It has been proven it can be done in all disciplines. But we just have to change our mindset to want it… then do it,……for the horse.
It’s time for us to challenge ourselves, from bottom, up, and speak for the change for action to allow it, in every sector, from top, down, including olympics.
I ride English and Western. My trainer has never pushed me on having contact, he did like "tight" reins (vs. long reins like western pleausre). I can understand how this affects people though. Many other of your videos have really helped me
Thank you so much for this; my horse is doing everything that you said Tucker was doing. I realize now I am riding with a very short rein because my trainer told me to keep them tight but my horse was trained Western so it's not what he's used too! This was very helpful! I love your content!!
Finally!!!
Someone is talking about this!😊💛🙏
Loose reins promote confidence in the horse and promotes the feeling of a partnership. It gives the horse a sense of responsibility. If your horse doesn't like to stand still try hobble training. It softens and let's the horse get used to being still
I have been wanting a horse for a very long time, and I think watching your videos will help me if I start to go to horse riding lessons one day.
We practiced yesterday with my trainer, we were going to do bounces but the tb I was riding (Tough) he kept overjumping and anticipating rushing. So we lowered the cavaletti to a pole and practiced halting and turning around just troting through, but the horses did have a week off for the fourth of july so they’re a little rubbish but I feel its good to gradually be able to trot and walk on a loose rein while still having control.
lose rein and soft hands is the best. I can ride Dressage figures with my horse "Terminator" holding the end of the rein while he has his head so low that he could blow dust on the floor.
Naturally I don't do that on trail rides, just sometimes in the Arena or Hall. I mean, on trail rides he doesn't lower his head that much, but I can still ride on lose reins, just not during canter, that requires soft contact. I want to try riding with a rope halter next and get rid of the bit.
Very important topic!
Thanks for bringing this up. 👍
Thank you for stating your point right at the top of the video and getting right into it - helps so much!!
The constant contact..is the reason I stopped pursuing dressage….I nor my horse enjoyed it.
I swear my horse and Tucker are a lot alike! I’ve been doing the same, seeking and learning different training styles and techniques (including finding yours) to help with this. The mental aspect of loose rein was rough at first 😅 but I see the confidence it’s built now in both Miles AND me. Great video, love your input, and y’all are doing great!
Hi , can you make a video on Leg aids especially for canter. While there are a lot of videos around it I found your rising trot approach as best to learn quickly. Would be very keen to know the leg aids or approach to transition to canter as that's something I am struggling with. Thanks
Love your videos!
I love that you're sharing what you learn! These are great tips :D
one thing ive found with alot of english riders which i really hate is that when they find a horse they cant sit to at the canter, they'd just two point it and not work on balance or anything, it annoys me alot since they dont bother to work on their seat but just start jumping high when they cant even sit their horses canter-and then they just like fall cus they arent balanced lmao- not everyone just a few (btw i ride both western and english)
completely agree, i jump around 1.30 and you will be surprised by how much i see this problem in many of the riders i know. believe it or not a lot of the times the trainers do not correct it or say anything about it, some trainers even encourage it, which isn't necessarily wrong but you need balance in riding. i talked to my trainer about this when i noticed it at a show and she said some trainers don't even mention it since its hard work to get a nice seat and they don't even want to teach it since its something so simple. 100% agree with your point.
I Absolutely Love Your Videos Camella And Let Me Tell You That These Horseback Riding Tips Are So Very Useful To Anyone Who Is Either Starting Out Or Looking To Improve On Their Horseback Riding Skills So With That Being Said Keep Up The Amazing Work As Always And I Am Sending So Much Love To Your Horse Tucker and Your Mini Horse Yoshi 💛💙💛💙💛💙,Lord Colton Of Gallifrey
You can never rely on a horse that
is educated by fear. There will
always be something that he fears
more than you. But, when he
trusts you, he will ask you what to
do when he is afraid.🌸🌺🌸
The one rein stop is what my riding instructor taught me for making sure your horse stands still at the mounting block and doesn't walk off with you! Also, probably not surprising, but the thing about tensing up and anticipating occurs with dog training too when working with reactive dogs.
Love it, prefect exercises for both English & Western! ♥
ADORE YOUR VIDEOS
I just wanted to let you know that I love your videos so much and they have helped me so much in my riding❤🥰
Thanks!
Warwickschiller recently made a video on the same topic, with an eventer that was spooky, refusing jumps and was hard to handle.
ruclips.net/video/-p9EAKbSUUc/видео.html
ive always been taught to have ALOT OF slack in the reins 24/7. i love long riens lol
i do that some times to hold my horse back because she likes to rush fences some times and also when she doesnt want to stop cantering when i ask her to woah
Such a cute horse. I also love what your sharing!!
I rode western before I started english, now I do both. But I noticed that because I rode western for years prior to learning english, I naturally loosen up on the horse mouth. My english instructor constantly has to tell me to tighten my reins up, because when I stop actively thinking about the reins, I let them slip to something more like how I'd have them in western lol
Not me, I do english pleasure which offers way more rain than eventing :) I also do english and western
Hi! This video is very helpful. Could you possibly make a video on how you control the horse with your seat?
Thank you for this video!
I understand that you want others to change it but I can‘t really change it on my lesson horse because she uses her strength if she has long rains and just runs and Most of the riders from her can‘t hold her if she starts running
My horse learned me to have lose reins, if not she would just run away from me. And lose reins is not only good for the horse to let the horse walk good, but either for the rider to have a better seat
What happened to the beginning of the lunge..?? Is the riding style (rotating arms and...) and the effects correct?
if you always lead your horse in the proper manner, he will not get nervous when something comes up and you will not be caught unprepared. That is why there is a proper way to lead a horse
Good points!
A person I ride with sometimes is always trying to make me walk by the horse's shoulder instead of by his head. Is that safe? Cause I'm really getting sick of always being corrected by insisting that I'm supposed to be at his head.
Is tucker considered peacock appy?
Could you do free jumping with yoki
you make piont but if i had loose reins on my horse he would not go any were and i would not be able to turn him
This is really helpful, thanks! Do you feel like your elbows are relaxed as well? I was trying to watch your position. This is something I'm struggling with: loose elbows & maintaining contact at the same time...trying to find that balance.
Yes omg same
Can you please get a booth at the Midwest horse fair to sell merchandise and give advice please at least consider it so many people would love to meet you in person. thx.
I ride English and one of the instructors (who is so rude to me and old)always tells me to feel their mouth moving in the bit,i always disagreed with that bc my reins would be WAY too short and i should shorten them enough so i have control but not too much so the horse is tense and being pulle don the whilst im falling forward
How can we stop the horse & gallop the horse and what country are you in I am 9 years old and I am in Sri Lanka give me a reply if you can
i thankfully never rely on the reins
What are the avige price of your online cources
If horsey doesn’t want to stand still on a loose rein, circles circles and circles for 5-8 seconds then stop abruptly and he or she will learn that standing still is preferable over moving out in circles
Would you post more video lectures in your website in near future.
How old is tucker? Love your educational content camella
Contact is different for every horse, with your horse you just need a lighter contact, he probably has a soft mouth and feeling you be hard on his mouth probably hurt or irritated him. I’m not saying this is definitely the probably it’s just a possibility. My horse has a really soft mouth and throws a fit if I get to hard on her mouth
K I have a question about something, and I'll take everyone's opinion about this, so a horse I ride at the ranch I volunteer at, always fakes being lame (he isn't actually lame I promise) and he does a huge head toss thing and doing the 1,2,3,4 technique I use isn't working any tips?
The horse I ride loves to head swing. I kind of just deal with it and pull back a little. It can come from using the crop or kicking too much.
@@Maddie.S.D.129 the weird thing is he goes off of no leg and we don't use a crop with him
This is so off topic for this vid but is it just me or when you find the perfect horse or pony for sale, and then you look at the price and it’s like $1300
I really love your video's and they are super helpful, but aren't you sitting a little bit to far forward?
I ride western and I notice that when I watch English riders it just bothers me
i loooovvvvve your videos
Good video,
Predators could hide in the Cornfield, so he doesn't like to be there.
it probably wont help, but could be fun to put some carrots on the Cornfield fence and ride past them first. see how he reacts to that. LOL
Nice vlogs 💞
this is like walking a giant puppy
You have to ride each horse differently. He obviously doesn’t like it, other horse go better with contact. So please don’t teach people you shouldn’t have contact because it’s bad!

Repent from your sins and trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. We are all sinners you CANT work our way to Heaven at ALL. Jesus paid for everyones sins when he died on the cross, he took Gods wrath in our place, so we can have everlasting life. What you have do is trust him truly and know that by not of yourself you’re saved but through him only. And turn from sin, don’t play the hypocrite. Read the gospel of John. Jesus said I AM the way I AM the truth I AM the life NO MAN comes to the father except through ME. No if, ands, buts about it. GOD BLESS🙏🏻💕
Ma'am, it's 2022, there's internet and you still haven't gotten the memo that other religions, belief systems and deities exist? Have you thought for one moment that they merit respect? That not everyone believes in the the Christian Bible and that we shouldn't have to? It's called freedom of religion.
@@lemonadiewoodlander4290 did I ever try to force anyone to become a Christian? No. I’m just sharing the good news like Jesus Christ told us to do. I do think other people can choose what they wanna believe, but I’m not gonna lie to them and tell them they’re going to heaven too, because the Bible says Jesus is the only way. God bless
@@liamoore409 This video has nothing to do with Jesus Christ. Spread the "good news" to other Christians, not random RUclips videos that have nothing to do with Christianity. The whole "you need Jesus to go to heaven" rhetoric essentially coerces vulnerable people into believing that they have no choice but to be Christian unless they want to suffer for eternity. Idk about you but to me, that sounds like forcing your religion on people.
@@lemonadiewoodlander4290 people don’t go to hell for simply just “not believing in Jesus” people go to hell for there sins and everyone has sinned and Jesus took the punishment for peoples sins and to accept the payment the Bible says to repent from your sins and trust in Jesus. Christians have already done this (at least true born again Christians) if people want to go to hell that’s there choice but for the people who want a savior, I’m saying this for them. If you don’t like what I’m saying your free to go.- thanks🙏🏻
We aren't "choosing hell" ffs. For that to be true, first of all,
- Everyone would have to believe in the bible/god/jesus or whatever
- We have to believe in heaven and hell .
- We then have to believe we will go to hell if we don't repent for sins.
- We have to believe in such a thing as a sin
So no, we are choosing a BELIEF SYSTEM, not HELL. And nobody else cares about Jesus unless you believe that he existed in the first place and that he may have died for your sins according to your outdated book that told you so with no scientific proof.
If you need God to dictate for you what is moral or what isn't, then to me you simply don't have a sense of morality or critical thinking.
May the Goddess Gaia bless you.
