  • Showing how to start up and run a D10R.
    *note: I checked the hydraulic oil level on the opposite side of the machine before I started recording. It's a sight glass on the tank beside the right door (from cab view).

    Can you tell us what engines you got in your machines when you do a vid e.g. 3508, 3412 etc.
    Llike your vids, they are very interesting.

    Just wondering on this R do you have to Lock out the Cat to Reverse the fan ,The 10 N model i was running I had to sucked bigtime -Time sensitve stop pushing wood chips feeding a reclaim so when you`d blow the rad out with the fan and side guards on engine in winter to remove ice build up always had to stop & lock out , sure would have been nice to be able to reverse it while backing up for a new push -I see the steering is different too 10 N has T handle tip steering.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  12 лет назад +1

    @disgustapated the dozer spends the majority of its time at full throttle when working so rather than having to hold the pedal all day you just set it wide open. Having a decelerator still allows the operator to slow down while working near objects or to control track spin.

    Kinda risky leaving that Neon there, somebody might accidently use it as a wheel chock. But otherwise, thanks for showing us around the cab. In Western Australia, you name the mineral, somebody is digging it out of the ground here. Yet most miners and their contractors are too cheap to train anyone. I have operator tickets for a skid steer loader, a backhoe, a front end loader and an excavator, but because I have "no experience" they don't want to know me

    What is the purpose of the master switch shown in the beginning? Is this so that if there is an accident, rescuers can shut it down from the outside?

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  15 лет назад +1

    The D9Ts have the C18 now, and the D10Ts have the C27. I haven't seen any Ts with engine problems yet. For the most part all the dozers I have seen (even in heavy use conditions) usually hour out before you have an engine malfunction. Of course once you start racking up high hours then you need to do some routine engine work, which usually just ends up being pull the engine and rebuild while its out, or swap.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  14 лет назад

    Heh Mike so much for mr cat mechanic =p But I guess maybe Dexters doesn't run quickfills? If you look closely there is a square box with a round silver quick fill for diesel so the service guy doesn't have to haul his hose up to the cab. This one was worn out and leaked every time he connected/disconnect. That's where the leak is coming from. Good eyes none less! (Hey when you coming boarding anyways? Isaac is back on the 12th and I don't work weekends).

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  14 лет назад

    @FUCKINROCKIT There is one on each side, if it's in dual mode as the one side goes up the other will go down. Now in single mode you can keep one side at the same level (say toe of slope) and change the other side to vary the slope.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  15 лет назад

    That's diesel not hydraulic. If you pause the video at 4:00 and look just up and to the right there is a hose going to a square box with a silver quick attach fuel fitting. Every now and then the fitting doesn't pop correctly so it drips down the ripper into the fuel guys overflow bucket. We use quick attaches on a lot of our machines to minimize how often the fuel guys have to climb up and down.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  14 лет назад

    @arbitor55555able Actually it's not, the quick fill coupler for the diesel tank is. If you look closely you will see a hose running to a box with a round silver connector. The service truck has a quick coupler on the diesel gun they pop on there rather then having to haul a 3" hose full of fuel up the tracks and across the side of the dozer.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  13 лет назад

    @King441 Nope, there was no boot requirement for operators as the only time they would be out of the machine is when it is parked. Mechanics were the only people that did any sort of lifting that would pose a foot hazard.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  14 лет назад

    @dozebud Before you start running your fat mouth maybe you should consider that the dozer was already idling for a few minutes before it was shut off and the video started. There's plenty of oil "up top".

    Yeah, thanks for all the info. My own Cat 3408 has done over 5,000,000 kms or about 70,000 hours in 80 tonne road trains, which is quite heavy work, and it's on it's 3rd in-chassis rebuild. Never been out the frame and the crank & block are still in tolerance. Cat make good machines & engines.

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  14 лет назад

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  15 лет назад

    The steering toogles on the left hand would be the cluctch/brake combo, the deaccelerator is exactly like an accelerator except reversed (you have to let it out to get more fuel). The reason being is that you spend a lot more time at full throttle.

  • @ozziairlegger
    @ozziairlegger 14 лет назад

    A good operator..starts his cold start pre check..with a walk around...check hoses..undercarriage etc.Check all fluid levels... engine pre start oil level..then when running pre check running level..air filter indicator..fire extinguisher indicator...cleans track frame daily ... cleans all observation glass points..checks all alarms.
    Then he does his plant running check after start up......via gauge indicator read out information ......similar to 747 pre start check up...lol

  • @dozebud
    @dozebud 14 лет назад

    I should not have called him a dummy,sorry about that.but white smoke from the stack indicates cold fuel start.Sorry for the name calling,that was wrong.if it was a warm engine start the smoke should be black from the fuel,unless coolants getting into the cylinder.the newer cats pumps are cut back to reduce emissions & produce very little smoke.
