- Showing how to start up and run a D10R.
*note: I checked the hydraulic oil level on the opposite side of the machine before I started recording. It's a sight glass on the tank beside the right door (from cab view).
Why is that car still unsmashed?
lol
"here we have a compact caerrrrrrrrr, and a D10errrrrrrrrrr"
I love that device, that's my favorite job
😂😂😂😂😂😂
And how freaking long was the oil stick?! Dam...
Startup and control vid on the Neon, please.
Hahaha
Can you tell us what engines you got in your machines when you do a vid e.g. 3508, 3412 etc.
Llike your vids, they are very interesting.
Last dozer I operated was a D9G when it was new (very long time ago!)
Man this is a cool vid, I'm a carrer trucker but in my next life I'll be a heavy equipment operator.
Mad love to you boys that do it on a daily, stay safe and professional out there, big kids like me are watching.

Just wondering on this R do you have to Lock out the Cat to Reverse the fan ,The 10 N model i was running I had to sucked bigtime -Time sensitve stop pushing wood chips feeding a reclaim so when you`d blow the rad out with the fan and side guards on engine in winter to remove ice build up always had to stop & lock out , sure would have been nice to be able to reverse it while backing up for a new push -I see the steering is different too 10 N has T handle tip steering.
Does having a job like this pay well ? And what kind of training do you need? I'm interested in this type of work.
Personally i can answer it doesnt pay much better than an average 9-5 and basically have an timer show you how training wise and just have to have experience and most guys will hire
I get anywhere between 35-43 depending on the job and you just need to not be a dumbass you probably won't start on a dozer but can get into it if you show interest and Initiative
I see labour guys can't clean ur tracks out
Its generally the operators job the clean the tracks. At least at the couple construction companies I've worked for.
what's a D10errrrrrrrr
hahahaha i noticed that too. nice machine tho...
That Is a bit harder to understand than a Brit turning a word ending in "er" to a "ah" sound and vice versa. The Brits seem to get camera right though since that "er" is right there for them. Imagine them saying "camerer" lol
@Chet It's Wisconsin language too. I worked with a guy from Wisconsin, and me and my other coworkers always made fun of him because he would say stuff like "I'm going dirtbiking in the moontains."
@disgustapated the dozer spends the majority of its time at full throttle when working so rather than having to hold the pedal all day you just set it wide open. Having a decelerator still allows the operator to slow down while working near objects or to control track spin.
WHEN I WORKED FOR MANIX IN 1964 WEST OF JASPER ALBERTA CANADA..CALIF JOE WAS THE " PUSH" IT WAS A ROCK JOB..I'D NEVER EVER BEEN ON ROCK..JUST MUD & DIRT EXPERIENCE & TAUGHT NOT TO GO FAST WITH THOSE MACHINES... WELL ! HEREI WAS ON A D8 POWER TILT "U"BLADE & NOT EVEN A DRAW BAR ON THE REAR...PLUS THE TRACK PAD GROUSERS WERE ALL WORN OFF...AND I AM BEING CAREFULL & CAUTIOUS WITH THIS MACHINE & AS I AM MOVEING ALONG A LITTLE MAN APEARS UP THERE WITH ME..HES STRONG CAUSE I IS A BIG GUY..HE THROWS ME OUT OF THAT SINGLE BUCKET SEAT ONTO THE HOT HYD TANK...& GESIN MY SEAT PULLS THE THOTLE WIDE OPEN & SHIFTS TO 3RD GEAR..LIFTS THE BLADE UP OFF THE GROUND..HE'D YELLED AT METO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT HES DOING..CUS HE AINT HERE TO BABY ME...BUT I AM TOO BUSY ATTEMPTING TO KEEP MYSELF FROM GETTING TOTALLY BURNT ON THAT DARNED HYD TANK TO SEE WHAT THE HECK THIS IDIOT IS DOING & WHO THE "F" IS HE ANYWAY ? HE'D SPRED ONE OR 2 END DUMP LOADS & YELLED AT ME NOW YOU SEEN HOW TO DO IT...DO IT..& DONT EVER LET ME SEE YOU DECELERATE OR SHIFT DOWN..I WILL FIRE YOU ON THE SPOT..I JUSTVTORE A HORRIBLE VERBAL STRIP RIGHT OFF OF HIM..AFTER I SHUT THE MACHINE OFF & I TOLD HIM I DONT KNOW WHO THE "F" YOU THINK YOU ARE..BUT YOU JUST BURNT MY BODY BAD ON THATHOT HYD TANK..IF YOU EVER COME NEAR ME AGAIN I'LL BEAT YOU INTO THE GROUND.. NOW"F"OFF....BUT GEUSE WHAT..NEXT COUPLES OF END DUMP LOADS..HE WAS BACKONTO MY MACHINE ..BUT THIS TIME I DIDNT MOVE & I ATTEPTED TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF BUT HE GOT A HOLD OF THAT LEVER BEFORE I DID..BOY WAS HE EVER SCREAMING INTO MY EAR..I COULDNT GET UP OUT OF THE SEAT..HE KNEW HIS STUFF..I THOUGHTI SHOWED YOU WHAT TO DO..YOU DIDNT HEAR WHAT I TOLD YOU EITHER SO WE ARE EVEN...WHAT ARE YOU REFERING TO..YOU BURNT ME..HOW THE "F" AM I TO LEARN ANYTHING FROM A MANIAC ?? NOW GET UR HAND OFF OFTHAT THROTLE LEVER..& WE FOUGHT OVER CONTROL OF IT..FINALLY HE ALOWED ME TO KILL THE ENGINE..HE SAID I SHOULD FIRE YOU RIGHT HERE FOR FIGHTING UR SUPER INTENDANT...I SAID I WAS LOOKING FOR A JOB WHEN I GOT THIS ONE..SOI CAN GO BACK TOLOOKING AGAIN..THERES 6 OTHER CO'S CLOSE BY..HE KRPT ME IN THAT SEAT..HE SAID YOU JUST CAME FROM A DIRT JOB..RIGHT ? YES..WELL NOW UR ON ROCK & IF YOU WORK OUT HERE..YOU' LLBE ON ROCK TO END OF THIS JOB..EVERY OPERATOR THERE WAS SURE I WAS BEING FIRERED...BUT HE RELENTED & TAUGHT ME..I ENDED UP RUNNING EVERY PUECE OF EQUIPMENT THEY HAD ON THAT JOB..BE CAUSE HE FIRED LOTS OF OPERATORS..SO I JUMPED IN..THEY WERE ONLY 8 HR SHIFTS...I LEARNED LOTS THERE..THE MECHANICS LIKED ME..FOREMANS TOO...I LEARNED REAL QUICK LIKE...FUN FUN FUN....
I WAS 21 AT THAT TIME...
CATAPILAR I FOUND OUT WAS A LOT TOUGHER MACHINE THAN SOME OWNERS THOUGHT THEY COULD BE...ROCK IS HARD & TOUGH & ROUGH...AND RUNNING A ENG WIDE OPEN ALL THE TIME IN 3RD GEAR NO LESS..THEY NEVER QUIT..EXCEPT THE GOVENER WOULD FLY APART SND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO EXPLODE..MECHANIC CAME & TOLD ME..SHUT THE FULE OFF ! I ALLREADY DID IT WONT QUIT...AT THE TANK !! OH ! RIGHT ! I FINALLY FOUND WHERE THAT THING WAS AT & SCREWED IT TIGHT AND IT QUIT RUNNING OH THANK GOD I SAID...HE SAID HIS NAME WAS NOT GOD...RIGHT ! HE FIXEDVTHE GOVENER RIGHT ON THAT MACHINE..THEN OPEN THE TANK SHUT OFF AND WAIT FOR FULEVTO FLOW THERE THEN HE HOOKED THAT LINEUP AND I STARTED THE ENGINE VIA" ELECTRIC START".. GOD BLESS...TURNED OUT THAT THE PAD GROUSERS WERE WORN BUT STILL HAD LOTS OF TRACTION..I ASKED THE MECHANIC ABOUT THEM..HE SAIDTHAT I HADTHE BEST TRACKS OF ALLBTHE MACHINES ON THIS JOB..WHY YOU SAY THAT ? THOSE ARE "ROCK" PADS..( THE GROUSERS WERE 'S' SHAPED & WAY WAY WIDER THAN THE STRAIGHT GROUSERS WERE...THAT MACHINE COULD & DID WALK ON BARE ROUNDROCK & NEVER SLID SIDEWAYS..IT WAS WAY AWESOME...IT WAS A REAL GOOD CAMP & JOB FOR ME....I CUGHT THE TAIL END OF THAT JOB...I'D SIGNED UP TO GO TO AUSTRAILIA FOR BUILDING A RAILROAD ACROSS THAT COUNTRY..BUT THEY CHANGED GOVT DOWN THERE & HALTED THAT JOB.. WOE WAS ME..
Kinda risky leaving that Neon there, somebody might accidently use it as a wheel chock. But otherwise, thanks for showing us around the cab. In Western Australia, you name the mineral, somebody is digging it out of the ground here. Yet most miners and their contractors are too cheap to train anyone. I have operator tickets for a skid steer loader, a backhoe, a front end loader and an excavator, but because I have "no experience" they don't want to know me
Hey Mechknight73 I noticed you posted that comment 5 years ago Im curious how you got on...did you get a crank on a machine?. Im an operator based in Qld and went through the same when I was starting out 20 years ago.
What is the purpose of the master switch shown in the beginning? Is this so that if there is an accident, rescuers can shut it down from the outside?
The D9Ts have the C18 now, and the D10Ts have the C27. I haven't seen any Ts with engine problems yet. For the most part all the dozers I have seen (even in heavy use conditions) usually hour out before you have an engine malfunction. Of course once you start racking up high hours then you need to do some routine engine work, which usually just ends up being pull the engine and rebuild while its out, or swap.

And to think I my dad still has a D2 for tractor recovery... Don't get me wrong, it's a great little machine, but... The bigger the better, am I right?
Thank you for using better than a cell phone camera for this video. One of the few machine videos that is actually watchable.
The next time you check the oil, read what it says on the dipstick.
Whats the idea behind the reverse throttle??
Thanks for the explanation of the D10's 'stuff'. Looks nice and cosy in there with just a few more controls compared to a curved blade.
I see a leaking cylinder... Sweet machine otherwise. I've always wanted to run one.
I always wanted to see whats inside the cab !! thanks for posting.
I wish my dip stick was that long.
i go to a vocational scool for heavy equipment hjoping to pursue this after high school the larget pice of equipment we have is a 510c dresser thatsit no mining equipment still fun but it would be cool to operate that
D10 arrr and a regular caerrr
Great video - I love inside the cab instruction clips.
Very nice, good instructor! very cool, thanks
I cleaned tracks at the end of each day so the stuff doesn't dry. Then it's really hard to get out.
Thanks for sharing the video. One day I will have to play with a dozer.
Very interesting, I'd love to get the chance to play with that CAT. The engine sounds good and VERY Powerful.
@6062ravi It's educational, and some people like heavy equipment. The people who really have no lives are the ones who have nothing better to do than post retarded comments bad mouthing random youtube videos. I feel sorry for you.
I guess that means the C18 replaced the 3408 because they are the same size (18 liter). So does the C18 have a good reputation for reliability? And what about the 3400s (3408, 3412)?
Nice educational video. I wish I get to try a dozer some day!
Don't mind Alex, he doesn't like it unless it's 40 years old, has no cab, and you have to turn wrenches to start the thing.
Holy dip stick batman
If you go to my channel (click my name) I have a walk around video for both a 385 and a 345.
@vantagetes they had 4 cat mechanics working on it they changed the clutch checked wiring sat in the shop for a week NO way would not go so I came into the shop for service on the 9N and I asked if I could try it later they said giver while they worked on the 9 I pulled out and locked out to fill my time sheet I tried the fan when the whole world went by me they come running out what did you do I told them just locked it out well Thank the boss I got a nice pay check after that find .
These are`nt to far from the new 10 N keys on the dash does this have the flouresent lights those are nice ,sucks that you have to lock out to blow the rad out with fan at least the one I was running did on a chip mill feeding 2 reclaims did it for 2 yrs with the older 9 n OMG what a differance no more levers this one has the 2 track brakes ours had a twist lever forward & backwards LOVE them .
@FUCKINROCKIT single/dual cylinder tilt and autostow the ripper (full up, shank in).
I ran a D10T for the first time last week .. WOW what a feeling specially when the biggest dozer i ran befor was a d6 lol !
No you don't, you see a quick fill coupler for the fuel.
Cool vid, thanks for posting. Very instructive. Love these beasts.
i wanna try one of these, ive only driven the 450 and 650J deere dozers at school, this makes them look like toys
there's something about this kinda stuff that pumps my nads.
Thank you for your time. Awesome video.
les mains dégeulasse sur les manettes c'est bad !!! il existe des gants !!!
First time I have ever heard an east coast Canada accent from you, in your videos Jason. Really noticeable
Heh Mike so much for mr cat mechanic =p But I guess maybe Dexters doesn't run quickfills? If you look closely there is a square box with a round silver quick fill for diesel so the service guy doesn't have to haul his hose up to the cab. This one was worn out and leaked every time he connected/disconnect. That's where the leak is coming from. Good eyes none less! (Hey when you coming boarding anyways? Isaac is back on the 12th and I don't work weekends).
@FUCKINROCKIT There is one on each side, if it's in dual mode as the one side goes up the other will go down. Now in single mode you can keep one side at the same level (say toe of slope) and change the other side to vary the slope.
That's diesel not hydraulic. If you pause the video at 4:00 and look just up and to the right there is a hose going to a square box with a silver quick attach fuel fitting. Every now and then the fitting doesn't pop correctly so it drips down the ripper into the fuel guys overflow bucket. We use quick attaches on a lot of our machines to minimize how often the fuel guys have to climb up and down.
Calgary, at the Spy Hill Landfill.
@vantagetes Great vid, really interesting to see how you operate a Cat dozer, d'you run your own firm?
its amazing how you guys can spread dirt around with finesse in a huge machine like that. awesome.
Can i hear the start up of the Dodge Neon?
Those controls look the same as the G series scrapers, nice.
@arbitor55555able Actually it's not, the quick fill coupler for the diesel tank is. If you look closely you will see a hose running to a box with a round silver connector. The service truck has a quick coupler on the diesel gun they pop on there rather then having to haul a 3" hose full of fuel up the tracks and across the side of the dozer.
@King441 Nope, there was no boot requirement for operators as the only time they would be out of the machine is when it is parked. Mechanics were the only people that did any sort of lifting that would pose a foot hazard.
@dozebud Before you start running your fat mouth maybe you should consider that the dozer was already idling for a few minutes before it was shut off and the video started. There's plenty of oil "up top".
Thanks for watching!
Pião seboso! Excesso de barro das esteiras, o trem de força tá roendo barro! Dentro da cabine uma pocilga!
Quick fill. oops sorry he already answered it.
Yeah, thanks for all the info. My own Cat 3408 has done over 5,000,000 kms or about 70,000 hours in 80 tonne road trains, which is quite heavy work, and it's on it's 3rd in-chassis rebuild. Never been out the frame and the crank & block are still in tolerance. Cat make good machines & engines.
@dozebud no problems, you didn't know. It wasn't fully warmed up yet but it ran for a couple min to get all the fluids circulating before shutting it back down and starting the video.
The steering toogles on the left hand would be the cluctch/brake combo, the deaccelerator is exactly like an accelerator except reversed (you have to let it out to get more fuel). The reason being is that you spend a lot more time at full throttle.
A good operator..starts his cold start pre check..with a walk around...check hoses..undercarriage etc.Check all fluid levels... engine pre start oil level..then when running pre check running level..air filter indicator..fire extinguisher indicator...cleans track frame daily ... cleans all observation glass points..checks all alarms.
Then he does his plant running check after start up......via gauge indicator read out information ......similar to 747 pre start check up...lol
I should not have called him a dummy, sorry about that.but white smoke from the stack indicates cold fuel start.Sorry for the name calling, that was wrong.if it was a warm engine start the smoke should be black from the fuel, unless coolants getting into the cylinder.the newer cats pumps are cut back to reduce emissions & produce very little smoke.
i cant wait for heavy equipment operating training next semester!!!
Awesome video thanks.
Thanks for posting, haven't found a more extensive video than yours about complete procedures of the machine. Good job.
It's the quick attach we use to fill the diesel tank, the fitting is on the ripper so the service guys don't have to climb the tracks with a 3" hose.
looks like you got your new 385 back... got any more videos from the new office yet?
Oh' ähh i dont! Wahnt That's Guy fore' by Boss @ Work.
asking for a friend
he asks if he could use this video for non-educational purposes and first timers
real nice rig jason she still running ok?
looks like the seals in the head of one of the ripper cylinders is leaking pretty bad, bottem left if ur staring at the back end of the machine
Yeah thats the new ride hiding in the back there. 385C L Powerstripe (same as in the Powerstripe Slope Work video).
Funny, the 'foreman facing tracks' aren't too caked, could probably get away without a shovel...but walk around to the other side...
@MrMrtiki Should of tried to convince them to invest in a reversible fan. You can get ones that run on a timer and switch directions automatically at pre-set intervals so it blows the debris back out.
The 10R should have a 3412 HEUI, and the 385 Powerstripe has C18 ACERT.
I have a couple already made Popcorn, should put the first one up in a day or two.
the only thing that bothers me is,,this guy should NEVER have run the RPMs up that soon.theres no oil up top DUMMY!!
My old man always told me the difference between a operator and a rider is grease oil and filters
You're just mad they don't let you play with these anymore =p
@THUND3R63 It was one of my vehicles yes. Needed something for when it was too cold or wet to ride the gixxer. Now I have a work truck and a Jeep. (and the bike)
That D10 sure looks alot like a 657G scraper to me! LoL
you from boton jason cuz you say caha
nice vedeo mate i driving before a CAT D9K and escavator CAT 245B i would like again working and use this equipment best regards from norway take care of this KING OF HEAVY TOY!!
Listen to that kitty Cat purrr. Ain't no pussycat, though.
So that decelerator is in somewhat of a way like a lawn tractor throttle. The more you let of the more you get?
You are half correct. Yes the more you let off the more you get, but your lawn tractor also has a decelerator and not a throttle pedal
@The1234bubba Check out my video "D10 ARRRR saying hi"
Subscribed. 👍
Thanks mate
I want to see it going over that neon !
Anyone I know that runs any size dozer wear work boots...
@bigfranco87 The twin cylinders will do both functions.
Where is the parkbrake?
My cousin has a gixxer, you the Suzuki Gixxer, if so what cc do you have
Spyhill Landfill, we are digging new cells/mining out the gravel.
Why didn't you clean the tracks out before you left yesterday?? I would have got my ass chewed out if i left our dozer that way!
Needs start removing that track dirt in the evening
however, i have not driven a D10, but i drove and started a D8R
