Cat oughta hire you as a commentator. Your voice is very distinctive and you know your stuff. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
I've been told that before haha. Thank you!
@@PAmining you are THE MAN!!!
I have three D9L tractors in my territory from the same vintage as this D10. One of them have a confirmed 120,000 hours on the clock. Massive machine!
In the late 1970s, a local grading contractor bought the first D10 west of the Mississippi. First one delivered to California. I was just a kid and remember seeing it on a job.
I've always been curious about those machines; even went so far as to take a pre-apprentice course in Heavy-Duty Mechanics. That didn't work out though. I ended up making toilets for the next 27 years. Go figure..... You've explained the machine well without going into technical jargon that would lose the average viewer. I've thoroughly enjoyed myself here. Thank you.
This presentation is better than any Caterpillar ad ever produced!
Haha! Thanks! 😃
I got a chance to sit on a D-10 and a D-11 on a pumped storage project I was hauling in and wanted to fire them up so bad I could taste it, but guessed I needed a job more than a rush so I declined. Sweet machines and good video. Thanks PA!
A Very professional demonstration on the D 10. Appreciated your workmanship, THANKS
Absolutely awesome in your description of this fine machine. Thank you.
The D-10 and D-11 aren't very good working around draglines when you need to move dirt quickly, as they were built for slowly moving a large amount of dirt. And they really shine on a down hill push. But they were much easier to work on than the older Caterpillar tractors. The transmission comes out the back on built-in rollers. Plus, if you needed to change an engine and the starter would still operate, you could unpin the lower radiator housing, push down on the blade control, and turn the starter, then the entire radiator and it's housing would fold towards the blade and out of the way. Two men could change the engine in 4 to 6 hours easy.
Thanx 4gettin back to me, am currently workin D9 on road bypass in Aberdeenshire, keep dozing, rippin.Good luck.
I wish there was a channel like this about locomotives
One of my grandfather's retired from cat in 1981. I'm sure he built some of the first of those hi track d10s with a single stack. I can remember him building and showing me a model he put together of a single stack d10. The decals/lettering show that one is an early one.
You did a great job all the time! Thumbs up!
Nicely done as always.
Good to see its still getting use! Great video as always!
Amazing still in service... I appreciate that.:)
Great description! Would love to hear this thing start up and run!

Mr Pa mining you sir are a legend. you could sell any piece of equipment. Your speech is always highly articulate you don't ever use any slang or foul words. Your information is never ambiguous. The historical and technical facts and dissertation about the equipment is inspiring. We watch your videos as part of family time to illustrate men who capture the American spirit of pride and excellence for mining in Pennsylvania. As admirants and fans of all things running on diesel you are a national treasure here. salute!!
Educational thanks! I would like to see a video of it running! Ty!!
Excellent video!
Put a ton of hours on a ten, nicely done very informative
Love your videos
I need to shoot some video of this particular machine running I've had the privilege of running this very machine. Should note though that the blade setup on this D10 is not factory. The cab is much cleaner now and has a new seat and working A/C, and no longer a mouse condo.
great overview
awesome video thanks for sharing

+MrJohnnaz Thank you!
Twin Stacks=twice the coal rolling!! Dad had a chance to drive a D11 years ago when he was doing an install on an axle straightener at the Peoria Plant. The plant manager said he could get dad and the crew he was with some seat time at the Cat testing grounds next to the plant the Saturday of that week but dad didnt do it because the plane ticket his company bought him was for that Friday. To this day im still a little disappointed that he didnt just buy a new ticket for Saturday night. lol. Great video buddy, keep em up!
Oliver66FarmBoy Cool story, and thanks!
Hey I just really enjoy your narration, it seems that you really have your heart set into the videos that you make and that is way cool. I have a terex tractor and it is a work horse!.
Thanks I appreciate it! I do puts lots of time and effort into them!
You should be a teacher and a educational video for caterpillar you really know your stuff I have lured a lot about these tractors then I thought I knew cause of watching your videos Definitely subscribed
It does not seem like that long ago that Caterpillar had the “C” logo and first introduced the D10, but it was. You have made several excellent videos including this one. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
I love the old C logos. Good memories being a kid in the 70s with both grandfather's working for cat and building these machines. One grandfather retired in 1980 the other in 81.
Super video :)
Green Work
beautiful beast
What a beast...
I remember the first D-10 I ever saw showing up on a job site in Orange , Ca. in the late 70's. This old gal in this video looks like it earned it's living for the owner. Looking at those track grousers I would say it has some hours on them. Great dozer for sure.
U kno ur stuff regarding caterpillar.Very impressive talk on the D10..thanks from Scotland..Aberdeenshire.Turriff.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video
PAmining , as was the case of the 455A, I later moved into this ,the sweetest dozer I ever sat in the cab, the D-10 !
. One thing is any good mechanic can take a helper and change out engine in a short time, also roll the trans out the back, 4 Hrs out and back in the rock again. It had the heart of the D-10, as was the same of the D-9G straight stack , both had "heart" Thank You PAmining once again for many memories being brought back. .
+Greg “Banjo Greg” Cantrell Thanks for the bit of history! Always enjoy hearing an operators experience on a machine. Glad you enjoyed the videos.
keep it coming
Lovely old tractor 👍👍👍👍
Early 70's in high school AEP took us on their bus up to Big Muskie while it was working..Then to a reclamation project where they had 5 HD 41's working on a hill blade to blade..Can't find any good pictures of those days
Loving these videos. Beast of a dozer 💪
you find all the classics! id love to have one of the old pac man decals...wonder how long its been settin? boy itd sure look a lot better with thick black smoke pourin out them twin stacks, and 30yrds in front of the blade! awesome old cat
arborist460 Haha, the old classics are some of my favorite to shoot! Old Cat's always sound awesome when they are under full load! I would imagine about a week. It was on a reclamation project when I filmed it. Thanks!
any carrydozer walkarounds in the future???
arborist460 Yes sir! Both the D11R/D11T CD's are coming up in the future
killer! most people don't know what the cd main purpose is and im sure your info. will inform them lol. type in coal mining in Appalachia and check out the old starfire strip in hazard..that one brings back alotta memories for me...12 d11s side by side..
Merry Christmas to you. 🎅
I still run one of those old jewels, with a 68 yd. coal blade, and a D-11T also.
Excellent video. Would of love to here it fire tho
Impressive machine! I was amazed at how much it weighed. Is it still in operation?
Legare15 Yes, this unit is on a reclamation project. Thanks!
And back here next to the ripper shank control, is the 1/2 case of starting fluid as she really likes her smelling salts lol 🤣
You should do some more video documentaries of various machines. I'd watch the shit out of them! Cheers.
+jfdb59 Everybody tells me that haha. I have lots more coming up in the future!
man i'd love 2 drive a d10 like that.
Legendary machine! That poor seat could use an overhaul. Do they use this for stripping overburden?
mojostevo Stripping and reclaiming is what the old girl is used for.
I don't understand why they angled the operaters seat. Can you explain this please? What about the left side of the blade?
Boy it’s a long way up!..😳…doesn’t look like this old dozer is used much anymore!
Are you ever going to do a video on the komatsu d575
Take a shot every time he said d10 :D amazing video on an amazing vehicle tho
I spent years doing the service & repairs as needed on the first D 10 / demon model to hit southern........... sadly, it went the way of the torch, / parted out. but on the heals of that, they bought an early D 11. monster cat.
I would say the company got their moneys out of this one!
The next perfect video from you. Thanks for sharing. It´s very informative.
Can you tell me how many working hours on the D10 ?
bummbummkarl I'm not sure, sorry. I usually never look at hour meters...half the time they are never correct anyway. Thanks!
bummbummkarl I can actually answer that well at least what the hour meter reads, 37,400 give or take a few hours, just spent the day preping it for an engine replacement.
PAmining t return
This old girl has some history under her tracks, wonder how long its been sitting, motor looks freshly painted at least
Ive operated a CAT D11 on Batters and Berms and is like driving an Airbed atop of these Quarries and cliff tops compared to the old CAT D8K which would have you pissing blood.
Awesome machine,it looks like the ol' girl has been sitting there for a while
Nice. Is this machine still in service or is it retired?
roadwolf2 No this machine is on a reclamation project. Thanks!
Elevated sprockets, please Google a picture of the first Caterpillar tractor.
Cheers bud
am shocked on the condition of the cab as vents missing and much dirt, mine I kept clean but was a 9 not a 10. one needs to have respect for one of these and it will respect you, one time mine was the only one running when others were down.
In the case of these old dozers, you dozed more by what you could feel as opposed to what you could see…an old operator told me many moons ago that you don’t doze with your eyes, you doze with your ass!..lol!!
it really puts it into scale when you say that it can push 38.2 yards and then i think that my little 650j can only push ~3 yards hahaha
i remember our scool had a D7.. or D6. don't remember which one. but one thing that puzzled me about it was that the driver's seat was mounted at an angle. pointing slightly to the right. have you come across that before? any idea what's the point of that?
Did you watch the video? He covered that point. Go to 7:55.
Dan Ralph
oh. whoops.
but i still don't get it. you get better visibility to the right. but not the left.
Hi there you do seem to find some lovely old cat dozers that sadly have been left to rust & get wrecked, Is it possible to buy some of these machines & have them exported to the UK. I love these old machines
Am I correct in you saying they don't make d10 anymore.?
+roger brandt Technically, the D10 evolved into the D11 series. So no, the D10 is still produced as the D11 Series today.
+PAmining d10t is still made...
+Pete lol Yes, however the D10T does not trace it's roots to the original D10 shown here. The D9L became the D10N, which would eventually become the D10T.
Absolutely Love the D10, very maneuverable, blade control as precise as a D8! Load TS24s one per minute. Excellent on slopes, what is not to like!
Technically the best humpback was cats first hightrack crawler.
Also there was a real small cletrac with that design
Yes. It's the cletrac k model. First high track crawler. 1919-26 I believe we're the years made
Oops sorry meant f and from 1920-22 pretty little crawler
What about the predecessor to the d10 the d10n is a documentary about it coming up soon? Ll
96 ton😫
Okay... I have seen several of this guy's "documentaries" and I'm still wondering what real-world experience he has besides infatuation in heavy equipment he has. Literally everything he has said is the Wikipedia coverage of this machine. I have also saw other videos with misguided information pertaining to Pony Motors and machine Construction. I am glad someone has such enthusiasm for yellow paint but it would be hard to believe he has ever sat in the seat for a day or ever turn the wrench standing on his head working on the machines he covers in his videos
