The only reason I never saddled a 9 was the 8 was as big as there was and I sure liked that straight pipe on the 8! Nothing like firing one up early in the morning with a pony motor and watching the smoke puff out as one cylinder started firing at a time. THANKS, Buddy and God Bless ALL Yall!

This was awesome for me. When I was a kid, I grew up just down the road from a mining outfit and they had a lot of machines, but they had a D9G (this was before the H came out) and that was the one that always drew everyone's attention (at least among the kids around back then). We weren't supposed to be in the mining area at all, but the operator liked kids and would always stop and talk with us and tell us anything we wanted to know about what he was doing or about the dozer. I remember that his D9 had the tall cleats on the tracks rather than like the ones here. That machine looked so huge to us after seeing all the other dozers that were much smaller they had. Would any of these in this video be able to run with little work or are they just old derelicts now?

There is something about the 9H that reveals kind thoughts from people who ran them. Maybe it's because Cat went to Hi drives after this and years of traditional design went away?

It's interesting you mention that because scrapers (locally called "pans" by miners here) were very common on PA strip jobs back in the day for removing topsoil. Now today, you almost never see a scraper anywhere even on construction sites. So, to answer your question, yes I would feature some big scrapers if I ever find any
