- How to find the age of an air conditioner. In this video I go over how to figure out the manufacture date of the most popular brands of split air conditioners. Goodman, Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Lennox, Rheem, Trane, American Standard. I show a few examples of how to read the age in the serial number and also show you a good site where a lot of this info plus much more can be found. The site I pulled up at the end of the video is: www.building-center.org

My Condenser Fan Motor went out last night while I was sleeping. I woke up and found this channel and started watching his videos , I repaired it in a few hours! Thank You!
I love to hear that! Glad you were able to get it fixed quickly, you're welcome and stay cool!
How to identify or visually identify the condenser fan motor is out of commission ? appreciated !
@@hermanchow1405 I used a long screwdriver and tried to spin it. It was pretty tough to move.
@@gigatec916
thanks , have a great weekend !
My 27-year-old Carrier (Serial No. starts with an "L") has been struggling lately. I took the fan motor out and put some oil into the grease ports to smooth out the stiffness. Hopefully it will last some more years.
thank you! we’ve only lived in our house since august ‘23 but when i first looked at it, i told my wife the air handler and condenser unit would need to be replaced. they are working well, particularly after a couple DIY repairs, but i’ve always wondered exactly how old they are. unfortunately the tag on the condenser has been roasted by the south florida sun for many many years and the model info is completely faded. serial number is barely visible but thanks to this video, I confirmed it’s an ‘08 13 SEER unit.
FROM CHICAGO....FANTASTIC HOW TO FIND OLD CONDENSER THANK YOU SO MUCH IM YOUR #1 TO WHATCH YOUR VIDEOS
Great to hear from Chicago! Thank you for stopping by sir, have a fantastic new week!
AGAIN FROM CHICAGO..BY ANY CHANCE ANY VIDEO HOW TO READ TONS ON ANY CONDENSER UNIT?? PLEASE AND AGAIN THANK YOU SO MUCH
I don't have a video on tonnage but it's usually found in the middle of a model number and starts with a 0. This short article explains it pretty well: www.pickhvac.com/central-air-conditioner/running/how-many-tons-my-ac/
FROM CHICAGO STILL EXELENT YOUR ADVICE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH
I'M YOUR #1WACHINNG YOUR VIDEOS
Thanks for the Tip. My Home's Carrier Tech2000 was made the 4th week of 1991 (installed Summer 1991) and still working 32 years later with its R-22 refrigerant...
When it does go, you wont be able to get new refrigerant. I had the same thing and had to replace.
@@ReRusted ?? I'm aware a R-22 "top off" won't be cheap and why during an earlier video (on this channel I Believe that talked about Age of AC systems) after a certain number of years, getting a service check, which basically involves opening/checking various systems... risks the chance of a valve or seal that was working will fail or leak... Meaning I'll likely let this sleeping Dog lie.
That all said depending on what ever the current cost of a R-22 is at the time of this eventual failure... Assuming I need a Full Recharge that'd be just under 6 lbs... Don't know what today's price is (August 2023), but an article I just read from April 2023 suggested 6 pounds of R-22 might cost $300-$480( pre-labor or other repairs/service).
Everyone's Mileage might vary. It probably will be cost effective on several fronts to consider an "upgrade" to a more Energy efficient model with Refrigerant that is more Environmental and Cheaper in the long run...
Great info Jay ... And that joke was for the birds 🐤🦜🦅Hope you and your family are safe ... Aloha my Friend 🙏
Thanks Eddy! Haha yeah, at least the birds found it funny. 😄 Me and family are safe and well, praise the Lord! Aloha from Hawaii my friend, have an amazing new week!!
Thank you Jay.
You're welcome! Thank you for stopping by, may you have a blessed new week!
Thank you.
Compressor Kickstart capacitor and relay went out on mine last night. Dad thought the unit was about 7 yrs old. Turns out it was more than twice that at 0906. Thank God it wasn't the compressor (1st thought).
Hi Jay,
I have viewed most of your videos. I am a DIY landlord now learning HVAC. One rental home is a Carrier system, and I was so excited to see if it was R22 or 410a that I raced out the door through the rain. The data tag was wet, so I wiped it and that’s when all info disappeared. Local supply store states most parts are universal so don't be disheartened!!!
Hi, Jay another great video with some knowledge being given to everybody. Darn my unit is a 23 year old Comfort Maker.
always wondered about those dates and how to find and locate them online thanks for the tip. I do hope they repaired that AC unit lol another good one. Jay
You bet! Thanks for stopping by good sir! I was going to say that joke myself but when the doves started cackling I couldn't resist. 😄
@@WordofAdviceTV They are very talented t And followed the script perfectly, lol
Thanks for another great video. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Keep them coming.
great video! Hope you and your family are not impacted by the fire...
Thank you! I appreciate the concern. Fortunately we are on a different island but it's really sad what happened on Maui..
This is very helpful, had to replace whole system in 2008, but i make sure I get unit serviced twice a year.
Holy smokes, your cost of owning it is through the roof
Glad you found the video helpful! May your unit last you another 20 years!
@@MaynardFreek not at all, that's why I make sure I get it service every spring and fall, I'm from the south, where the summers are brutal and winters are getting unbearable!
Just replaced my 6/1992 Tempstar with a 7/2023 Rheem!
Good choice! May the new one last you as long as the old!
Hi Jay! As many have said, thank you for the content on your channel - it’s been extremely useful. I have two York 3 and 4 ton systems that are from 2005. I’m trying to keep them going as long as possible. I’d love to hear your thoughts on those leak sealants you can inject into a system. I took a chance and put one each into my units and had success (used a buddy’s leak detector to verify most spots that had been leaking weren’t anymore). I may be in the minority because looks like most people say they’re bogus.
All the best to you!
Glad to hear that the videos have been useful and that you've had good luck with the sealants! Those are really hit or miss. I think they're definitely worth a shot if there is a small leak. Not very effective with bigger leaks but small leaks it will at least slow down the leak with a chance of fully stopping it.
My Carrier AC from 1988 bit the dust last month. We just put in a heat pump after doing an energy audit. With the rebates it will be cheaper (hopefully)than a new AC.
From 1988 is a great run! It did well and hopefully the new unit will last just as long!
Hey jay, I hope you and your family are doing good...hopefully you were not impacted by the fires in Maui...😕
God bless everyone impacted by those fires and hope they can get back on their feet sooner than later....we are praying 🙏 for all......blessings my friend
I appreciate that, thank you! Fortunately here on Big Island there were only a few minor fires. Really sad what happened in Maui though. Indeed, may God bless them and help them recover quickly!
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice Weekend ^_^
Thank you sir! I appreciate you stopping by and may you have a great weekend as well!
thank you for the view. what about ARI AC? i cannot find it in the list in that website. i cannot find also AHRI if it is their new name
Finding age is not a problem if you save the manuals that come with it. A receipt placed in there or write down the date. Usually it's not the age, that's the determining factor, but just how much work it needs to restore it plus parts availability, that is the deciding factor if you repair or replace the unit.
Thank you for further explaining!
Hey Jay another awesome video. I do have a video request for you my wife and I were visiting our neighbor’s house and they told us that they turn their AC system off all day until they come home from work they clam that this says them money and energy. I don’t believe this is true but if you haven’t got a video on this topic could you make a video of if you turn off your AC system when you leave will help you save money and energy? Your videos rock brother.
I would have to agree with you! As far as I know, in most cases that is not true. Thank you for the video idea, I will add it to the list!
That’s what I thought because my wife and I have been married for 4 years now and we have 2 children a 3 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. My wife is currently 8 months pregnant with twins so when she heard our neighbor say that turning off your AC System completely off saves you energy a money she was very confused and after we left our neighbor’s house and got back to our house my wife looks and me and goes “ I’m not AC technician but doesn’t turning off your AC system all day makes your System run longer and causes it to work harder? I can’t for your very covering this topic. I love your content and you explain how to fix things where people can understand you rock.
Thanks bud for the content what you think about using building intelligence site ?
Hello Jay can you plug the link to a video that would help troubleshoot my inside unit. It’s not turning on 😅
I have an old Ruud 4-ton air conditioner. It stopped, and I went to push the reset button, and it is mashed in, so no switch action. I can't find a video on how to replace the switch. Can you help?
Sorry to hear that the A/C went down. When you say reset button, are you referring to the circuit breaker, the disconnect box, or something inside of the air conditioner?
@WordofAdviceTV I believe it is called the high pressure reset. The button seems to be no longer spring loaded. It's outside on the cabinet. Also I opened the cabinet and it runs into a line by a very small diameter copper tube
How can I find out Manufacturing Year of a General AC having Serial No. T029725 ?
Hello 👋 good buddy I was wondering how you were doing I heard about the fires down there but I don't think it's were you are at I've been praying 🙏 that it wasn't I just hope and pray 🙏 all is well with you and your family 🙏 ❤️ I just can't imagine life without you all I just love you so much. You know yesterday was the 36th week since Arnold passed away 😢 its hard to believe I literally count the days and minutes he has been gone and Bigfoot also..I was a pallbearer at my aunt funeral Las Saturday everything went really well it was like a church service. Well tell everyone I said hello and give them a big ol fashion hug 🫂 for me and tell them to give you a big hug for me and I pray 🙏 you and your family to be protected in the name of Jesus..
Hi David!! Fortunately we are not on the island that had the big fires. Our island had some fires too but nothing like the disaster in Maui. We appreciate your love and concern! It's hard to imagine how much you miss Arnold and Bigfoot, to the point that you are counting the days.. I don't know what to say that would be comforting or encouraging about that. My condolences my friend.. For all your close ones that have passed away. Thank you for the greetings and hugs, sending you love and hugs back from the aloha state of Hawaii too! May the Lord be with you always and direct your path. 🙏
@@WordofAdviceTV thanks Jay for all of your support and prayers and friendship 🙏 ❤️..I don't know what I would say to myself about it to of me counting the days and weeks etc. It's just who I am I guess because when I love I love deeply that I know and they were the closest ❤️ to me they were like my kids. I'm just probably the most extreme sentimental person is a good way to describe me.. you stay safe 🙏 ❤️ Jay and I will be praying 🙏 even more now..
👍👍👍

So do u think those ac water misters are bs?
To be honest I have never seen one or used one but from what I read about them, along with other tech's opinions, those things don't do much. I wouldn't get one unless it's specifically for testing purposes.
Whats the best brand?
I talk about that in detail in this video: ruclips.net/video/Cy46yTbkNhI/видео.htmlsi=bshqF82kkmP1fwce
I wonder why you have to replace your AC unit when it’s over age
You dont have to actually
They hide the date because the new HVAC you just bought is more than a year old sometimes
Yup, that happens. Sometimes 2 or 3 year old units get installed.
What's in a name anyway ?
No label.
Hopefully one of your neighbors has the same unit so you can look at their label. 😇
