I play bass and got a resonator bass just because of Claypool. With a little bit of practice songs like Redstate girl actually aren't that hard to play. But I agree that Claypool's style as a whole is fucking awesome and I love the guy.
He's a good showman and ok composer - harmonically speaking. Cool lyrics! As far as technical ability it fits style but no - he's not "Olympian" level on bass. Check out Gary Willis or Hadrien Feraud if you want that - those are guys that put Jaco to shame.
Was lucky enough to see les play, shows you how far hard work and practice can go. When someone makes something seem so easy until you try it, you know they've done a great job. Les is the man, he is one of a kind.

Mirv (Mark) Haggard and Bryan Kehoe are two of the most well-versed and virtuosic electric guitar players on the planet, and here in the Bay Area they had a band together called M.I.R.V. which was a blessing to rock music. Les put out their first project album COSMODROME on his label Prawn Song back in 1993/4. Later on Kehoe left to form his own band THE KEHOE NATION, and I was in that band for awhile and on the 2nd album from that band THE DEVIL'S ACRE OVERTURE. God bless SF Bay Area musicians and the Claypools, Kehoes and Haggards of the world. twang it up tangerding.
The main reason pop music and hip hop are the dominating genres is the majority of people dont have the attention span to take the time to learn an instrument themselves so theyll never know the true value of actual music that takes so much to create out of nothing.

If they'd only written new lyrics, they'd have a whole new song. If you don't pay attention to the lyrics (which few people do live at a festival), it's impossible to know what song it's supposed to be.
I love primus and I love Les. He’s the best bassist in my opinion but he does what a lot of my favorite bands do I hate. When they play live all their famous best songs they play totally different. When I see a band live I wanna hear it just how it sounds on the albums. It would be like going to see the stones and they play Brown Sugar unplugged.
This is NOT Primus. This is one of Les Claypool's multitude of side projects. THIS is DUO DE TWANG. If you want him to play PRIMUS songs, go to a PRIMUS concert, not a DUO DE TWANG show.
