Yeah... I feel the EXACT same way having just heard this revelatory piece of information! Props to the guitarist who appears to have never learned the song but still puts something incredible together regardless! Jerry would be proud!
I was stoked to see that he'd covered this song since I have always been such a Jerry Reed fan. To hear that his first 45 purchase was this song, made me happy to my very core. 💜💜💜
I am an old guy who has been playing bass for more than 50 years and this is the best player I have ever seen. Incredible technique, off the charts creativity, and how he sings all those odd lyrics while playing such complex patterns is beyond me.
I have the utmost respect for Les. I've seen him at the Greek Theater where I witnessed the largest mosh pit I have ever seen. I also saw him at the High Time cannabis fest where he played to an audience not much larger than this one. He was a complete gentlemen and even poked fun at the crowd size. He seems like he just likes playing music....
So fcking cool that Jerry Reed had a profound effect on les when he was young. My favorite country balladeer spawned my favorite rock balladeer. Now we know why les tells stories and a bunch have first names.
First song purchased was Jerry Reed?Amos Moses? Sounds about right. As if I couldn't respect this guy anymore, then I hear about this. Hats off to Claypool. The world is a better place because of his musical genius. The average person may not understand this, but the average people are a couple of dumb shits.
This is fair. Jerry Reed was the Lee Claypool of his time. IMO the best song Elvis ever sang was A Little Less Conversation (A little more action, please)--- A Jerry Reed tune. Jerry had a real sense of humor and he was fun.
What happened to all these gopros these guys are checking up all the time? Any footage or edit we can see? Or were they just running without battery :)
If I were there I'd be up close, close as I could get to this man, the icon and master of the bass, IMO, maybe clean up to the elbow! At this kinda venue, I would most assuredly be up close and personal, a chance to get this close, NO WAY would I pass that up!!!
He left off a whole verse in the beginning when he stopped the song to tell about buying his first 45. Everyone blames his ole man, for making him mean as a snake, when Amos Moses was a boy, his daddy would use him for alligator bait. Tie a rope around waist and throw him in the swamp, alligator bait in the Louisiana bayou..... About 45 minutes southeast Thibodaux Louisiana lived Doc Milsap and his pretty wife Hannah
It’s a common missed lyric from what I’ve seen in this song. I actually live in the exact Thibodaux mentioned in the song, but everyone knows how to pronounce down here! I always get a kick out of performances of Amos Moses, but I think Les Claypool playing it just tops it all aside from Jerry Reed himself.
He killed this. Jerry Reed, one of the most underrated players ever IMO.
One of???... THE!!!
His first 45 was Jerry Reed?!? Well I didn't think I could respect Les anymore, but it just doubled.
Kinda explains his sound and musical choices ha

Just when I thought Les couldn’t be any cooler, he plays one from the Snowman, the great Jerry Reed! Eastbound and down son!!
R.I.P Mr. guitar......Jerry Reed. Love this respectful remake as only Les Claypool can!!!!
Nah, all props to his guitarist also!!!
It would be legendary beyond measure if they pulled this cover out when they open for Slayer this fall!!!
Greatest bassist of all time, or greatest bass player who ever lived? Discuss.
I choose c, greatest bass player in history...Except for me of course (I wish)
nothing to discuss. It is known.
Jaco...but Les is close behind.

Yea, can't beat Jaco, FACT
Les is an amazing spokesperson! His storytelling is outstanding.

Coolest thing I’ve heard all year.
I was just listening to the original and thought, "Les Claypool has to be a fan of this." Here I am after a quick search
I would kill to see Jerry Reed and Les Claypool together. That would be a legendary Jam.......maybe in heaven.
I wonder how tempted to play lee van cleef les is at all of these duo de twang shows.
Les is God. He's the reason I play bass. I just got a brand new one for Xmas

Very nice! Can you please add the name of the other musician to the video description above?
Where do I send the forms for this man to adopt me?
THIS IS AWESOME!!! Thanks for the post.
four foot shack is just a brilliant album.
Les + Primus (The Primate!) has had such an influence on my adult life people. Just cool still beein' here I'm almost 40 now

Amen Ray
Sober yet?
It makes me feel better to see Les pause when he makes a mistake, I do that shit all the time lmao.
My name is Samuel Eli, I grew up in South Carolina and my dad was a trapper in the swamps. This song is like a "proxy parody" of my actual upbringing
How amazing that performance was, pitty the fools that just walked on by munching their tacos.
Would you prefer a 1000 people recording with smart phones at an amphitheater? I dig the laid back vibe of this.
Well not everyone has good taste.
Medical station beside Les is a pretty smart move
1:11 old man story time starts here
You're welcome.
I expected him to keep strumming, Pete Seeger-style. This is still good though
Great vid! Thanks for sharing.
You got some moves on that bass. Once referred to as Thunder Thumbs and Lightning Licks. Very nice rendition!
The brothers johnson were
Thunder thumbs and lightning
Licks.
Xx luv, from Scotland
Is that Byran Kehoe on guitar? Badassary!
Yes, it is.
Great video! I love Les and I'll subscribe for more content like this

These two fellas work well together.
Les is right, that bass amp really thumps. ❤
He needs to do more Jerry Reed covers.
This is bad ass!
Who are the SAD 8 that thumbed down??
I guess there IS a slow dumbing down
Fuck em'

These are the best concerts to attend. I wont even go to a primus concert anymore
@@RyanM.Justin, You bet brother!!!
Les has Dairy Farmer's hands. you never met a Dairy Farmer? well they have hands just like Les Claypool.
Les & the boys just fill that niche & scratch that itch 🤣😉😎
Les makes anything sound great!
Fricking epic
Les is a god
My dad was not a Jerry Reed fan but if Les is that's good enough for me
needs more HA! HAHA! HEHEHE
Badass 🤟

Thats is fucking awesome! What a great tune!Les is a god
Sometimes, Les is more.
Fuck. Yes.
I need to hear she got the gold mine, I got the shaft

Funky
Thibodaux = tib-ah-doh, not tippy toe.

Man he should play with Metallica! Best bass ever
Metallica is gross
BR549 . . .
where's ler?
Too bad the guitar player doesn't know how to play the tune.😕
What a terrible cover
Fuckn Les Claypool! Go ahead!
That explains a lot.
If bugs bunny was on drugs he'd be called les Claypool ...
