Oh fantastic!!! I am thrilled that you have seen Sarah Burns videos & that you’ve changed your mind about using gouache for your travel kit!! I love how your set up is super easy to use. I do most of my mixing lately on the paper so I’m using the stay wet palette still for my travel gouache & studio gouache. I also use an easel sometimes (a James Gurney one that I made) for painting with. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us.

I made a Winsor and newton gouache dry pallette and use it all the time, it does crumble but I spray it with water and leave it while I draw and it's ready to paint with, I definitely use my gouache much more now which has to be a good thing 😊

Having a sprayer definitely changed even how i use watercolor, i travel a lot so i need to have dry media to make it easy going through TSA, the sprayer just goes and reactivates everything so nicely even when im going on a long flight and have 4 hours and go ahead and paint while im in the air. Plus you can use it to soften edges while you paint by just spraying some water on your paper

Yay 👋🏾😁 it couldn't be more perfect that you just posted, per your advice I decided to ditch my himi gouache palette, And I just got some Holbein-I just started playing with them and I'm loving it.
You are so right to invest in better gouache,😊 I just started and I'm already loving gouache. So much easier to blend, 😉 beautiful vibrant colors, Don't have to worry about maintenance, and less mess😅
Cuz I was sure ready to give up on gouache but i decided to give it one more good go with my himi palette 🎨,
Then I came across your channel and it all made sense it wasn't me it was the gouache😂!❤

I love your videos. This one was especially delightful and had very useful information too. The only concern I have about these flat palettes is that the little paint wells tend to rust depending on what metal they are made of. If they are coated with something like a white enamel before they are filled with paint, it can help. Thanks again for another great video!

I did exactly this and squeezed paints in the smallest arttool kit palette. I use Holbein and eventually the paints have dried and falling off the pan.
In my experience, its best to use deep pans/wells. The wider and shallower the pan, the faster it will dry.

    • @CecileYadro
      @CecileYadro  Год назад

My whole point is to use dry gouache, so it's better in large pans. If I want to use creamy paint, I'll use an airtight palette. 😉

Cecile, while I will primarily be taking a small tin set of watercolors, I have packed a few cards of colorful gouache in my travel bag. I am still new at both gouache and wc, but have limited myself to this and an Etsy travel board (magnets, collapsible water cups/lids) and a 4x4 sketchbook to both journal and [attempt!] To 'docu-paint' our hiking teip to 6 countries while my hisband finishes his book on Pilgrimage. This small gouache tin looks like a great way to add more 'punch' to the pages. Thank you!!

isn't it funny how we are always trying to
upgrade and adjust , with our supplies?? i have used dry gouache for almost two years , and it was great .. my issue with the water brush is that it's always too "wet ", to really apply any thicker paint .. but it still is the most convenient solution to simplify your setup .. stillman and birn ( the mixed media ones) are fabulous for the gouache👍👍👍love the outtake at the end of this video 😂😂😂😂norakag😬😬

Curious to see how this works for you. I found my gouache (Holbein) always crumbled in both half pan and folding palettes, so I gave up on that. I saw one of Sarah Burns’ videos and I think she pre-wets the colors, which probably would work well if you’re using them frequently enough.
My solution is kind of a silly one but hear me out lol.. I’m using the plastic pots on a strip like for little kids paints! There are 6 pots on a strip and it fits into my Derwent pencil tin (removed top tier) with brushes, pencil, palette knife, eraser, and a tiny spritz bottle. In the lid of the tin I added palette paper. This way I don’t get a mess, it’s a small package, and I can keep my creamy gouache :) it’s not as sophisticated of course but I’m ok with that.
I hope you’re packing this kit for a trip and if you are, that you have lovely travels (and drawings to share!)

Kind regards from Sheffield, England. :)

Love this idea. I found Gouache very messy toncarry, but this might do the trick. I found this Palette (Compuzzle) at Gerstaecker 🇩🇪, a.k.a. Geant Beaux Arts 🇫🇷, a.kk.a. Great Art 🇬🇧 at a reasonable price. About the sprayer, there are a few ines thst are thin like a pen or a Parfum spray. They work well, are compact (maybe 20ml) and light. Thanks for this, it has encouraged me to get me going for an "on the go" lightweight kit. Just subscribed as well 🎉

That palette is too shallow. Use the little white plastic ones and fill a tin. Add honey or gum arabic to avoid cracking and falling. Try M Graham Gouache, it doesn't even crack, however, honey can attract bees for some people. I love painting with dry gouache. Mist the entire pan about 10 minutes before you begin. (while you are sketching in pencil) This will help rehydrate it. Love your journal Je comprends le français !
