Nice one, Jim! King's X is my favorite band. I've been loving these guys for almost 30 years now. This song is about Giordano Bruno and his trial by the Catholic church and them burning him alive for the heresy of suggesting the earth was not flat but spherical.
King's X has so many different musical flavors from song to song. Some are spacey and psychedelic (Pleiades), others chunk and chug (Dogman), some are shredders (Moanjam), and some odd Beatle-esque ditties (The Difference-In the Garden of St Anne's on the Hill). They've got funk (Jenna), the blues (Flies and Blue Skies), soul (A Little Bit of Soul) and all other genres that are particular to King's X.
For your next choice, I put forth "We Were Born to Be Loved", "Talk to You" or "It's Love". Enjoy!
    Peace...

At last, someone reacts to King’s X....They’re one of my favourite bands but they never got the recognition they really deserved. They’ve been going since the mid 80’s and this track is from their second album Gretchen Goes to Nebraska which came out in 1989. Some might think it sounds a bit “grungey” with the drop D tuning but they were one of the first bands to do this. Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam cites them as inventing the grunge sound but King’s X are so much more than that. Gretchen is a great album to start getting into King’s X, it’s got some songs which they still play today like Over My Head and Summerland. They were always liked by other musicians but it seemed the public didn’t quite get them.
If you want to do more songs of theirs try “It’s Love” which was a single from their third album Faith Hope Love or We Were Born to be Loved which is probably one of my favourites.
Hope you get into this amazing band, there’s lots to like. Keep up the good work 👍

"Born to Be Loved" - all the tricky "stops"/transitions at the end, and the 3 part harmonies and point/counterpoint vocals. Its amazing that Paul Schaffers band from Letterman used to play it between commercial breaks! One of my all time faves :D.

This is one of my 3 favourite songs off my favourite King's X album Gretchen goes to Nebraska, the other 2 being Over My Head and Summerland. This is one of their more Beatlesque songs, which is why the guitarist Ty Tabor sings lead, but he is not their lead singer (although he sings lead on about 1/3 of their songs, except on Dogman, he sadly doesn't sing any). Their lead singer is Doug Pinnick, who you hear sing the line gather at the pole. Lyrically they can be quite deep, especially on their earlier albums, they are quoted as saying they want there songs to be like parables, and many are. If you want shredding/Ty just jamming, listen to Moanjam off Faith Hope Love, their best selling album. It's funny you mentioned Deep Purple, apparently he was asked to be their vocalist at one time, but turned them down because of King's X. King's X has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard them in 1990, I have seen them live at least 10 times, probably more. They are one of the best bands that few people have heard of, criminally underrated.

Hi there Jim, great to see you back!
Pleiades is an old fave of Kings X fans (you are right on about the lyrics) - you will now have to discover other songs with more of the 3 part harmonies, and "dUg" Pinnick's Gospel/R&B/Funk/Rock styled vocals, and his groovy laden Bass (also "12 string" Bass!), as Ty Tabor the guitarist, is the main vocals on Pleiades. Their music is _really all over the place_ as you will discover on each album/each track.
But I think you will be floored by this video, and hopefully have a reaction view for us to watch: ("Over my Head" Live Love in London) ruclips.net/video/8SKUrz5cwHU/видео.html The lyrics are very simple, but its all about how rockin' the song is (a real crowd stomper!), especially live!
I'm sure us fans will have plenty of other songs to request :D. Glad you enjoyed this one!

They created that guitar tone before Grunge. They influenced grunge yet never get full credit deserved though have a strong loyal flowing and still going strong to this day. Saw them last year and still crushed it. They are s trio, with singing bassist Just like Rush , though they all sing. I suggest
    "Goldilox" (off their debut 88).

The guitarist called Ty Tabor is very highly thought of by a lot of other rock guitarists and so is the whole band really amongst fellow musicians but they just never got the public popularity unfortunately. 15 studio albums and all 3 of them have had solo albums and side projects along the way and they're actually in the studio working on the next album!

This track featured the guitarist (Ty Tabor) singing lead vocals-and whilst he's not too bad, he's more of a backing vocalist. The bassistand regular lead vocalist (Doug Pinnick) is ten times the singer that Ty Tabor is. Some tracks from their first album would be a good place to start and to see the difference when the real vocalist is doing his stuff.....check out-'Visions' , 'Goldilox' and 'Far, far away'.
