A lot of us focus on all the negatives and are forgetting all the positive aspects of being a german. Thats probably why these videos are so satisfying to watch. I love germany, and i love being a german even tho not everything is perfect i think its still a fantastic place to live and grow up in.
I was stationed in Germany in the early 2000's. Loved every minute of it. Drank the Paulaner at Oktoberfest but I loved to keep to the city's brew where ever we went.
When I was little there were German American folk festivals. Original US BBQ was offered and many other things that were available in the USA. Every now and then I would go and eat a hot dog with a classmate who was allowed to go to the PX. It was really tasty. I'm glad you enjoyed it here in Germany. Have you ever been to the sausage market in Bad Dürkheim?

I went to Frankfurt for work a while back and I was very impressed with how friendly the people were. I had random people stop and ask me if I needed help with directions on multiple occasions. The food was excellent of course. You're reminding me how much I want to go back to Germany!

If you decide to recreate the green sauce, please respect the seven herbs. Borage, Chervil, Cress, Parsley, Burnet, Sorrel and Chives. It's made with sour cream and seasoned to taste with vinegar, salt and pepper. Also an cut up egg. Traditionally it's eaten with hard boiled eggs and potatoes.
Most Germans don't like heavily smoked flavours (an exception being cheese for some reason). Beech ticks just the right amount of smokiness so pretty much everyone can enjoy it. If you like smokier notes just ask for it, there is tons and tons of variations. Happy eating =)

You definitely have to try Mettbrötchen (bread roll with raw minced pork, onions, salt, and pepper). It's a German breakfast staple! Also Currywurst, or better yet, Mantaplatte (curried sausage with fries and German mayonnaise). And make sure to try some German fish dishes! I suggest Matjesbrötchen (pickled herring in a bread roll), and Brathering (first fried, then pickled herring) usually served with boiled potatoes.
100% Yes to the first. I know those as Hackepeterbrotchen, on small white buns with salt, pepper, onions and a liiittle bit of caraway spice. I would die happy if that was my last meal. Haven't tried Currywurst yet, but smoked eel, salmon and herring at a food cart were absolutely phenomenal. For two things from Germany I would murder someone though - the bread and the mindblowing amount of different sausages.
I was stationed over there in early 90 and those Nuremberg Sausage are the bomb. Still dream of them. Had little stands outside of or Post in Bamberg and run get them at lunch. Served them 3 to a roll with mustard. Mouths watering now.
Yeah, good knuckles are really soft and juicy on the inside. My preferred local restaurant here in Karlsruhe is sadly hit and miss when it comes to the knuckles. Sometimes they are really good, but other times they come out dry.
Attended Volksfest in Stuttgart 2016 (similar to Octoberfest). Best baked chicken I’ve ever had; beer everywhere, and great sausages. Darlington, South Carolina

if u are ever in Nuremberg again try out Schanzenbraeu Biergarten or restaurant and more importantly u should try Schäufele ( pork shoulder) its a franconian speciality
i love that you got to nürnburg and tried the sausage there! my grandpa is from there and even lets family send us some of the sausages there cause they are so good and the potatoe salat is cold cause they make it the day before so it tastes a bit better ^^

Next time you visit Nuremberg you should go for a "Schäuferla". Because that's (besides of Bratwürste) our traditional dish in the Franconian region. Hope you had a blast and even more good food! :)
I loved taking a trip to the andecs monastery just outside of Munich. I spent 4yrs in Bavaria in the late 70's and early 80's. I always preferred the Jaeger snitchzel to the weinner snitchzel. Best fast food ever were the little sausage stands that were everywhere back then. Being stationed in Augsburg and Bamberg I spent a lot of time in Nuremberg, Munich and Stuttgart, Bavaria was a great place to be stationed.

Our German cuisine is quite rustic compared to French or Italian cuisine, so I understand why it doesn't get much attention internationally, that's why I'm even more happy that you liked what you ate here :) and if you ever come back, there's still so much more to discover
i lived in austin until 1996, thats how its still in my memory. since then i live in germany..... i still miss the 90´s austin..... it was fantastic (6th street, zilker park, san marcos.....etc). what i also noticed about german meat (like the hachse) is they dont give it the time it needs like in america. same with bbq ribs, germans usually only cook it like 30-60min which makes it tough to eat and the meat is still strong on the bone.... while americans give it time, at least double 2hours and up, so that the meat can seperate from the bone and becomes way more tender! the sausages and schnitzle in germany are king though and the beer!
Man if you like the potato salad you got in Nuremberg, when you get home, go to Opa’s Schnitzel Hut or Peifer’s Deli in Harker Heights TX. They have the best I’ve had in the states (was stationed in Germany around Nuremberg for a few years). They both blow anything you get in Fredericksburg TX out of the water

Krustenbraten is something I love... also with crispy skin. You should look into it 🤭 And in Germany we have lots of regional sausages and dishes. Just like in the US 😊 The north is more in favor of fish but still lots of good meat there.😊
For the pork knuckle I would just grab the two bones in each hand and pull them apart and if cooked properly they’ll come right out. The one you mentioned with brown sauce couldve be a braised knuckle which I had in Austria and it was fantastic.
Hey Greetz from Germany, the most sausages in Germany are made from pork and there are no beef sausages here beside the ones from turkish super market called sosis and the one from freiburg called "die rote". You have to taste Blutwurst & Pannas. The pannas has to be cooked in a pan and the blutwurst can be eaten as it is. Beside most sausages are red because of the smoking process with beech wood. If you're trying to recreate the green sauce from Frankfurt. It's one of many Frankfurt's (Hessen's) treasures. It's called ''Frankfodder gri Soß' '' (Frankfurter Grüne Soße), it is 7 herbs.
For Thanksgiving, I always have sausage stuffing. It occurred to me this morning that what if there was a boudin style stuffing sausage? Onion, celery, thyme, sage, pork, bread cubes. Just throwing it out there for some seasonal content.
Next time you come to germany, go to Coburg. It might not have the most famous, but in my opinion the best Bratwurst in germany. its very chunky, and its grilled over pine cones. Just awesome.

About the potato salad you had in Nuremberg: Bavarians will claim it's theirs, but it's actually from Baden-Württemberg. (just like pretzels) It's slightly creamy because we use a similar technique to the Italian pasta water trick.

Ja ich komme aus Deutschland und mag auch Jäger Schnitzel. Sie können es auch selber machen. Probieren sie es aus und besorgen sich ein Rezept.
My favorite schnitzel to make is Venison loin. I use Itailian bread crumbs and sautee in Kerrygold butter instead of oil.

You also need to try some "Landjänger", they are easy to spot since they are pretty much the only rectangle sausages around.

the most sausages in Germany are made from pork and there are no beef sausages here beside the ones from turkish super market called sosis and the one from freiburg called "die rote". You have to taste Blutwurst & Pannas. The pannas has to be cooked in a pan and the blutwurst can be eaten as it is. Beside most sausages are red because of the smoking process with beech wood. I wish there was more of that here in central/northern Europe, restaurants are usually fast food or regional cuisine but I know for sure there's room for some American styled BBQ. I never had it but I know I want it!

Hi, you need to try the Leberkase. The Leberkase with Cheese and the Pizza Leberkase will blow your mind. I was in Germany back in June for 8 days and also had a German Sausage Class while I was there.
The best one is still the simple one, just a 2 finger thick slice in a breadroll and you are set.

For Thanksgiving, I always have sausage stuffing. It occurred to me this morning that what if there was a boudin style stuffing sausage? Onion, celery, thyme, sage, pork, bread cubes. Just throwing it out there for some seasonal content.

Next time you come to germany, go to Coburg. It might not have the most famous, but in my opinion the best Bratwurst in germany. its very chunky, and its grilled over pine cones. Just awesome.

Dood!!! I wish I knew you were going to be here. I live about an hour from Nuremberg. The food here in Bavaria is amazing! So much to choose from , I don't think I've had a bad meal here....oh and the beer you can't forget the beer, sooo good. I didn't see it in your video but I think you'd really like the Zoigle beer.
About the potato salad you had in Nuremberg: Bavarians will claim it's theirs, but it's actually from Baden-Württemberg. (just like pretzels) It's slightly creamy because we use a similar technique to the Italian pasta water trick.
