We had cathode ray tv's that didnt use that logic, the resolution was 480p, but instead of pixels TV's relied on phosphorous scanlines. And CRT had much better latency since the phosphorous scanlines turned ON instantly.
You are kind of close. There was supposed to two tournaments. One American style, and one Japanese SBO style. That is why Alex gave that awkward look, because he was confused thinking there was another tournament. However, they told him they have no time. He wasn't exactly "pissed" or "mad" he was confused. He even talks about it in an interview with Bornfree. Cheers!
Alex Valle was at the level of top japanese players, and let me remind you he has beaten Daigo on 2 games on the last 2 evolutions, im pretty sure Daigo aknowledges Valle as one of his fiercest rivals.
That wasn't salt. There was supposed to be two tournament one American style rules and the Japanese style SBO rules which is one game no best out of 3. So that's why Alex made that confused look because he thought there was another tournament. So get your facts straight before you opening your e-mouth about salt. Take the salt out of yours first with your Japanese hero worship. By the way Alex beat daigo and emanated him in many tournament and many games after this first time playing each other. You are just an e-scrub. Learn your history.
Alex is a nice person (albiet depressing sounding any time he loses), and he has very agressive style like Daigo... but Daigo just "knows". He's above us all -- even when he was at his lowest -- sometimes even meaning his brain surpases his fingers. This was one of the first matches I've ever seen of him, and he was the only person to ever inspire me SO much to pick up street fighter and his own agressive style (you can see in my video I try to mimic it, despite mess-ups). Props to both of them.
@@SlickRick4EVER you again. Once again, I was there, you were not. So let's get the record straight, again. Daigo was one lost from defeat. Also if they didn't change up the round account, Alex technically won.
actually this was a tournament held by capcom with 10,000 players participating. The main tourny was in japan which was pretty big with a stage and big screen ect.
No, he was confused because they were supposed to two tournament. The American style which he lost and the second was the SBO Japanese style. I forgot to mention they told Alex they had no time for the second tournament. Anyways! Learn your history!
@@SlickRick4EVER that's right. I'm setting what happened there straight. If you don't like, then tough for you. Now go cry to mommy. I'm sure she has a nice cookie for you. Feel better now?
@Wadarec Alex Valle talking about the match from old SRK posts (links don't work anymore due to new redesign, thanks Keits). I guess reading between the lines isn't something we all can do.
@ibeplu Lol The rules in this particular set was that both players had to play at least one match on both sides. First match started with Daigo on P1 side. Second match started with Daigo on P2 side. Then they just kept their positions for the third match. This video doesn't show the complete match. It skips parts. The full uncut match can be found in BushinStyle's channel (recorded by video camera). There you can see after the first match both players were prompted to switch sides.
You should check up the OG Street Fighter's with guys like Tomo Ohira the Legendary SFII player and Jeff. Those guys could Shoryuken a Blanka Roll, Headbutt, Psychocrusher from outside sweep range in SFII. Now THAT is sick reaction, not to mention, Jeff put a hurt on Daigo in AE back in 2004, when Daigo was at his peak in his abilities.
So in the Video. Which one is Scott H.? If anyone knows John Rambo & Howard who were DarkSydePhil. They mention Scott is in the Background in this video. I cant find out who he is.
Don't forget 2d Fighters are making a huge comeback. We're being blessed with King of Fighters XII and Blazblue (The successor to Guilty Gear) Fighting game fans have much to rejoice about this year.
mad props to daigo valle had homefield advantage, but had to go through his matches while daigo played fresh, and u.s. players were unaware of v. akuma's japanese metagame while daigo got a short glimpse of valle and choi's v. ryu. is that about right? is sf the only scene where top players co-operatively develop character('s) metagames? because i think that's unheard of in smash..
I have no low self-esteem, thank you. I feel that Daigo has taught me very much, and I use a lot of his techniques while also combining it with my own style (somewhere around Chinta+Daigo). I'm not talking about Middle Eastern competitive areas. I'm talking about Daigo and his own competition and how he stands against others.
@semiballpenman Its true, it suppose to be first to 3. Ask alex valle, if you see in the video alex talks to the guy surprised cos it was suppose to be upto 3. Alex valle said it in an interview too on youtube, i cant find it anymore but he did say it. He said that the japanese thought daigo would not even lose 1 round. So alex was implying cos daigo lost one game, the japanese just ended it there cos they got scared he really might lose.
There was some controversy at this event. There was suppose to be another round one with american style rules and one with japanese rules. Somehow it didn't go through maybe because Valle proved to be a bit of a threat.
I just thought it was weird. Why go silent when valle is winning? Was it just editing, or did they think valle was boring? Maybe they were just silent in shock and awe? Odd.
I wonder who would win between Daigo And John Choi. I know he was really vicious in the Alpha 3 shoryuken tournaments with Sakura. Haven't seen them fighting yet
I remember during this tournament, there was supposed to be two ways of doing it. The first was to do it traditional japanese style which was 1 set, and then the second batch would be best out of 3 I believe. Valle actually won the entire first set, as seen here, however they didn't go on what they stated and after Daigo won 2 more, then went with the US setting, lol. Valle never took that personally, and although he eventually lost here, he still owned everyone in Japan for free in Alpha2.
@TheDimsh i disagree big time. parry allows you to have a chance in the game, it doesnt allow you to be fireball chipped in the end. it makes great comebacks too. FA system is good, but its nothing compared to the parry system
felt bad for valle at the end but now this video made me look up to him. and on a different note. WOW, Daigo looks young in this. and now hes all grizzled haha
There was no conspiracy -- just miscommunications & a tourney running out of time. Happens all the time. And good shit Valle, he almost had his world title!
This must be kept in a safe! This is an amazing piece of history.
Daigo is always great at adapting his strategy. You see him lose the first set 3 to 1, but then look at him perform in the next two sets. Incredible.
Back in 1999 where 120P video was acceptable.
1998**
We had cathode ray tv's that didnt use that logic, the resolution was 480p, but instead of pixels TV's relied on phosphorous scanlines. And CRT had much better latency since the phosphorous scanlines turned ON instantly.
Do you mean 144p?
I think I'll just save my quarters, thank you.
SFA3 always been my favorite, I don't know how many hours I've put into it!
That was a great historic event, Daigo using Sanwa joystick and buttons while Alex was using Happ joystick and buttons. The Best!
That trophy was so awesome
Daigo : "D O W N L O A D C O M P LE T E"
Watching this in 2024 and its still godlike
valle thought it was 3 out of 5 rounds which is why he was pissed.
But he would have lost anyway, Daigo figured him out.

Valle's so charismatic
I love the end.
Alex looks pissed and Daigo....looks like Daigo, completely at ease.
Thanks for uploading all these SFA3 videos, man :D
u know what's awesome, Daigo was playing with a japanese arcade and Vall was on an american one look at the sticks!!
Alex Valle was at the level of top japanese players, and let me remind you he has beaten Daigo on 2 games on the last 2 evolutions, im pretty sure Daigo aknowledges Valle as one of his fiercest rivals.
Not even the pixels can hide that salt!

Young Alex in a wife beater repping Cali is the best thing I've seen all week.
The tournament that sparked the most respected rivalry in fighting games, personally.
Daigo and Valle were playing for this long? That's over a decade of terror...
2 decades now and they are both still insane skill wise
They’ve been playing since the 70s. Mind blowing!
The 90s look beautiful.
two legends
Classic rivalry
The Ryu vs Ken of the fighting game community
You mean Ryu vs Akuma

awesomnous!!!!!!!
long live street fighter
This is amazing!
I think Daigo used the first round to analyze Alex's moves, that's probably why he lost in the beginning... i assume
No, Alex was just that good, then after getting a feel for what Alex style was then daigo adapted.

3:39 Daigo was discovered that a throw in the air was a weak point of Alex's Ryu.
What a great match, I would have loved to have seen that live. I would also love to see a rematch!
It’s never too late to see it live!

Alex was a bad boy lol
Btw i miss that game so much, all musics are the best!
Alex used to work and train in Golfland (now closed) I remember watching him play during those years.
The opening tune is from The Naked Gun: Files From Police Squad.
Makes me wanna watch that movie again.
looking back now almost 13 years, daigo is still the king, wow....
Man the way they say "America" and "San Francisco" is just fuckin' brilliant lmao.

Ahhh... It's nice seeing footage of the previous century when Alex Valle was enjoying his middle aged years.

THIS TOURNAMENT WAS AWESOME!!! :D :D
Incredible battle where Daigo learns to fight during final and win like a god !!
Has anyone posted the rest of the footy when Daigo ran through the whole American team using Guy? That’s ish was crazy! Lol
Omg he used Guy?!!! My fav~~! When did he use Guy?!!!!
@UpskirtPower i dont think you get it. at arcades sometimes the pcb's, sticks, or buttons are bad, so daigo switched over assuming p2 would be better.
damn you made my day:) I thought at first it was Superman's soundtrack but I totally remind police academy now lol thx
Valle was a young punk lol. How times have changed.

Is Alex Valle the inspiration for the name of the SF3 "Alex" character?
that skinny dude is alex valle?
fun fact: people age and gain weight
He got chubby but that's pretty much it.
