  • We both graduated boot camp in December of 2016 and finally decided to sit down and make a video for the people who've personally reached out to each of us and the other curious future sailors! If y'all have any other questions or need any clarification we'd be more than happy to help :) Let us know if this is informative or not! First-time video feedback is appreciated. Good luck to y'all on your Naval journeys!
    Hey, y'all! It's June 2019, and it's been a couple years since this upload. I've noticed some people getting upset in the comments that there haven't been any new videos. I promise a new upload is coming soon! Stay tuned :)

      When you're in a strange/stressful situation, especially when you're in your late teens/early 20's, you'll bond very closely with the people you're around. It's easy to mistake these feelings for love. I saw so many times where people "loved" someone they were stationed with only to completely forget about that person and move on to someone new as soon as the person left. So if you marry a person in the military, there's a good chance once you get out and you try to start a family, you'll see that you aren't really good together, especially since you're no longer in those stressful situations. You don't need someone to meet the needs of your friends and family once you're out of the military and you can see those people again. I would say have fun, make friends, but don't get yourself involved in a serious relationship cause it will end in disaster. Look up the statistics; the divorce rate in the military is crazy high. There's a reason for that. And while I was stationed on a small island where military folk weren't allowed to bring dependents, there were only 2 people the entire time that were in relationships or married to someone not on the island that I know who didn't end up cheating. And they both happened to be super conservative Christians. I'm just saying go ahead and serve, but don't get involved in any kind of serious relationship.

      My best friend who's in the navy just married her BF who's a marine but they did it very strategically and knew each other before they went into military

    • @endrankluvsda4loko172
      @endrankluvsda4loko172 6 лет назад +22

      I really hope it works out for them. It always sucks when relationships fall apart. If they're still together 2 years from now and if you happen to remember this comment, please reply cause it would be awesome to think that at least 1 military couple made it work long term since I've never seen it happen before.

    I went through boot camp back in 1997. Overall, it was mostly psychological. The physical part might be a little challenging if you show up out of shape, but they will get you into shape pretty quick. Back in the day, we had to march EVERYWHERE. From what I understand, after they rebuilt the ships, each ship has their own chow hall. I could be mistaken though. After a three year stint with 2d Marine Division, I transferred back to NAVHOSPGLAKES (which is no longer there) and worked in the Emergency Department as an EMT. Made countless trips over to RTC picking up recruits for various reasons. Fun times! I hope that everyone that chooses to go into the Navy gets a lot out of Navy boot camp.HM1(FMF) Faust

    ET3 here graduated boot e1 because i was lazy in november 2016, Don't stand up during "The Moment of Truth" they dont know crap on you, don't even bother standing up if they ask you if you deserve to be there or if you shouldn't be there. People are just gonna disappear and you're not going to see them again after they stand up, don't let that be you.

    Wow! Basic has changed a lot since 1964. I'll only say that it was about 3 days before I got 4 solid hours sleep. I was also issued soap, a washboard and clothes stops (short line that must be in a perfect square knot or your clothes would go on the ground) to hang my clothes after scrubbing. We did that every evening before lights out. Duty was every other night 2 to 4 hrs fire watch and you better know the 11 general orders if challenged. lots of marching and learning 16 count manual of arms with the Springfield. Gas chamber and all that stuff swim quals and such are probably the same. I forgot "service week" I had cups, bowls and glasses in the scullery 3 meals a day for 5 thousand wanna be Sailors also in boot camp. and no walking, if not marching you must running for the entire time in basic. Bye

    • @craignelson8670
      @craignelson8670 3 года назад +1

      @Sparrow Hawk ... Your 1964 experience exactly matches my 1969 boot camp at RTC NTC San Diego. Wash boards, 1903 Springfields, clothes ties in a square knot, 11 general orders, close order drill drill drill drill, marching constantly, i was even in the scullery during Service Week as well .. lol. Thanks for the memories ...

    Good job Maia. When you explain it, it's so streamlined with the experience I had, I almost had flashbacks. haha, never made a better decision than enlisting in the NAVY long ago when it was my time. 17 years old and came in without any motivation or experience, left after 4 with both and used the GI bill to go to college then med school. Wouldn't be where I am now without a little freezing weather, bad food and singing songs with my new friends and division singing NAVY songs going under bridges.

      @@Abstraxz That's really cool! I was in 944, graduated October 4, 2000. I was the dental yeoman, and it sucked hardcore lol! I got chewed out so bad once cause the job was impossible; I was supposed to go to the dental place everyday to see if anyone in the division had an appointment, but there were days where no one was allowed to leave since all training was mandatory for graduation. Definitely a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation :p

      Tidal 9 hey killa, I’m an HN going through preventive med tech school right now. I picked to be a corpsman & when it was time to give a dream sheet in corps school I asked for overseas, west coast, and FMTB west. Never once did I request a C school & I’m insanely unhappy with my orders to tackle an NEC that I DONT want to work for the next 4 years to finish my contract. Instructors drill into you that the V in Navy stands for “volunteer/voluntold” and it’s very accurate. You can pick your rate at MEPS given availability and your ASVAB score but if your rate has C school options and you are qualified (high school & college GPA, the specific classes you took in both, overall military bearing, etc) there’s a very good chance you can be thrown into one even if you request not to be. Hit me on Twitter @iguanosaurus if you have any questions, I’m more than happy to answer

    • @Itsmaiacarter
      @Itsmaiacarter  7 лет назад +8

      Don't be scared! You don't have to do too many. DO NOT go into boot camp not being able to do them. How many push up's you do solely depends on who you have for RDC's and how often they decide to "beat you." Google the USN female/your age PRT standards before leaving. Definitely make sure you can do at LEAST the minimum before shipping. You don't have to do too many at all. It's more than possible. Push yourself and work hard, you'll be just fine :)

      @@Itsmaiacarter What does "beat you" mean?

    • @endrankluvsda4loko172
      @endrankluvsda4loko172 5 лет назад +1

      @@jokerswild4577 Lol that is what they call it when the RDC's PT you to the limit. They don't actually "beat you". When I was in, they might make it rain, where they'd PT us in the bunker/dorm/room with the doors and windows closed so hard that the perspiration evaporating from all of us would form water on the walls. But yeah, it was crazy how many people joined that couldn't do a single sit up or push up. We're not all trying to be SEAL's but everyone that joins should expect to be in okay shape. Like Maia said, check the PRT standards before going in and make sure you can do that. The push-ups aren't really all that bad. It seemed like the run was what really kicked everyone's butt. But if you can do that or at least get close to that going in, I'd say you should be okay :)

    Lol... I remember when I went thru Navy bootcamp in 1975..... went to 'Happy Hour' a few times there, which was not fun - 60 minutes of pure hell . That and our D.I. could physically touch you (like kicking you in the butt for moving while in formation)... hey I'm still here. Actually made it a career, best decision I ever made . retired as an E9 with 30.... go Navy
