  • Hopefully this is somewhat helpful, I remember watching tons of these videos before I left for boot camp. My experience was definitely a good one, just remember it is what you make it. Two months honestly fly by and before you know it you'll be graduating along your new brothers and sisters. Always try your hardest and remember why you're there, to anyone shipping out to basic soon good luck and have fun!
    Thanks to my roommate Anthony for helping me make this video, love you girl (:

    Great video.
    Some other pointers:
    Just don't get noticed, at all. Don't volunteer for leadership positions: it has zero impact on your naval career and really grants no perks while you're in boot camp.
    Get comfortable in the water before boot camp. Back float, dead man's float, treading water, swim a few laps. You don't need to be michael phelps, just be comfortable in the water.
    Walk a lot before you enter boot camp. If you're not used to walking (marching), your feet and legs can get really sore.
    Don't bring any extra weight into boot camp. They'll feed you as much as you can handle 3 times a day once you're in.
    Don't worry about the running; you don't need to run more than 1.5 miles to 2 miles max.
    Get the GI Bill whether you plan on college or not. Just get it.
    Remember that "the fleet" is nothing like boot camp or A school. Boot camp is not an accurate reflection of what life is like once you make your first duty station.
    Finally, sailors are as foul-mouthed as truckers and loggers put together. When you're back with your family on leave and what not, keep track of how many "fucks" you throw out there.

I wanted a better understanding of what he went through, and your vid has given me some insight to that. Definitely helped me with my fear of Boot Camp a bit.

    The things they are doing to you all is to break you down and then build you back up the Navy way. I spent 24 years in the Air Force and they did the same thing to all of us while in boot camp. Once you get to your training base after boot camp it will get a little easier, but the pressure won't be off of you until you get to your first duty assignment and you are working whether it be on a ship or a land base. I hope you all get some nice assignments in the field you both want to be in. I wish you all the best and may God continue to Bless you both.

    I went through Boot Camp in 1961 (the Stone Age) and some of what you related told me that things have not changed much. There were guys who were shirkers and just plain fools who fought the system. However, the majority of the recruits got with the program and found that Boot Camp was remarkably easy if you did what you should do. In 1965 I left the Navy as an HM2 and still consider my service time as the best part of my young life.

    I went to Navy bootcamp in 2000. Really the hardest things for me were the lack of sleep, lack of time to eat, and lack of contact with family/friends at home. While I was in, lights out was from 10pm till 4am, but it would take some time to fall asleep of course so that was about 5 1/2 hours of sleep a night. And if you had a 2 hour watch it was much less. That really kicked my ass; I was always sick and so tired that I remember very little. And then we would only have 2 minutes to eat a lot of our meals so I was always hungry. And the lack of getting to call home made me really miss my family. But as far as bootcamp itself went (the physical stuff and academics), it really wasn't that bad. Just make sure that you get lots of sleep the day before you go, make sure you can touch your toes, and you can do some sit-ps, push-ups, and run a mile and a half without having to walk and you should be just fine.

    That is the cleanest, neatest and good-looking barrack I'd ever seen. When I went through a-school in Pensacola, we had the ghetto barracks. Cinderblock walls, broken A/C, 4 guys in one room and a public head that smelled terrible 24/7.

    What did you score on your ASVAB to qualify as a MA ? How did you study for your ASVAB ?

  • @Nana-dy1nb
    @Nana-dy1nb 7 лет назад +18

    I'm a little bit discouraged. I just turned 31 and I go to take the ASVAB April 5th. I'm nervous about boot camp. I'm not in all that great of shape and that's my main reason why I'm so nervous. In this video u said that ppl were there because they had no other choice. I've always wanted to join the navy, but at this moment in my life I feel like I have no choice. Mentally I'm excited and I can't wait. But my main concerns are passing the ASVAB and getting into shape. What tips or advice do you have?

    • @mariosuarez4898
      @mariosuarez4898 7 лет назад

      did you ever join?

    • @TulsaDriller918
      @TulsaDriller918 7 лет назад +6

      Naara Perez Don't worry, the ASVAB isn't that hard and neither is pt (especially compared to the Army and Marine Corps). As for pt, depending on your fitness level just start off walking and then start running etc (just remember to pace yourself and it will be a lot easier) little by little you will get to where it is easy. I am only 15 so obviously I have never been in the military but my dad was in the army for 16 years and I aspire to join the military when I graduate. My biggest challenge is push ups even though I am strong when it comes to lifting weights (especially the bench press) the main thing to remember is that you have (at least for the army not sure about navy) 2 full minutes to do these push ups or sit ups (I believe the pull ups used in other branches have no time limit), so even though you can't get up and walk around you can stay in the resting position until you are ready to pump more out. Another tip I have on push ups is to keep good form and do them fast (within reason) what some people don't realize is that even though you are doing them fast that takes less energy than going slow which leaves you in kind of a constant plank position. Also when you go fast that tends to end you in that perfect sweet spot which is right before your chest touches the ground (you don't actually have to touch the ground with your chest but bring it to a 90 degree level which is almost touching the ground), while it seems small that little bit of distance can make a big difference. Doing the push ups fast also seems to give you more momentum which in turn takes less energy.

    • @TulsaDriller918
      @TulsaDriller918 7 лет назад +2

      The main thing is just to read up on the standards and then train consistently, it really isn't that hard. There are also tons of programs to help you with pt and boot camp, so you don't just have to listen to some stupid kid that hasn't even been in the military.

    • @ashleehellewell7739
      @ashleehellewell7739 8 лет назад

      You don't HAVE to cut your hair but you only get 15min to get ready every morning so if you have really long hair it takes a while to get it perfect.

      They don't have to be perfect, trust me I'm not the best at push-ups either but just practice while you're there everyday before you go to bed, you'll be fine !

      Do three sets each of diamond, regular, and wide pushups to the point of exhaustion each time every other day. Your pushup count will rise significantly in a month.

    You mention volunteering to be yeoman. I'm 25 and am prepping for recruitment and already have strong leadership skills. At what point do they seek out yeomen? Do they pretty much ask, "Ok so who wants this?" or do they look around and pick?

      Ren Fenwitz are you below E-3 if no don't do Jack shit. If yes just be the first one to volunteer to take muster.

    Great video, thanks! Were there any older women going through boot camp with you? Is it going to be hard for me at 32?

      Aleksandra Nomokonova one of my closest friends was in her 30's and she was probably the most healthy out of all of us lol. You'll be fine !

    This is random and not really to do with boot camp lol but what did you use to record your videos and what program do you edit with? I don't have a ship date yet, but I'm barely taking my ASVAB soon so I'm anxious to go to boot camp already and your video has really helped out a lot!

      StormrageXD I used to use my iPhone 5 and edit with iMovie. I recently just got a camera and now I edit with windows movie maker.

    I really want to join the military, but I cannot decide on what branch . I really want to join the navy, but I don't want to be on a boat at all, I want to have a ground job and that seems impossible considering the navy is all about being a "sailor" . The army has a ton of jobs but their uniform is ugly , I don't know if I could make it through their boot camp, and everyone is telling me they treat women bad. Which leaves me with the Air Force , which is okay , it doesn't have a lot of jobs , but I'd rather be on an airplane than a boat.. Can you help me ?

      Being in the navy doesn't necessarily mean you'll be on a boat, out of my class of 60 only one person got orders for a ship. It depends on the job you pick.

    If u have long hair when u go into the navy will they make u cut it? It fits in the bun, but places online say that they will make u cut it short. But urs doesn't look short. Just wondering

    i'm a senior in high school and want to join the navy, i want to leave right after graduation! i've talked to a recruiter already but want to get even more serious about it and haven't heard from him in a couple of months now, how do i go about this situation now? 🤔

    • @tiffannyyovera5128

      If that specific recruiter hasn't contacted you go to a different recruiting office, I'm sure any would be happy to help you with the process. That's actually what I did and it worked out for me (:

    Was the "medical check" or physical I don't know that to call it, as invasive as it is when you get checked when you first try to join?
