I wanted to watch fully before giving my two cents. About halfway through it became unbearable. I am a former teacher. This is a movie. There are a lot of things in this film that seem a little unrealistic. But, what movie isn't like that? There was so much joking, talking and criticism, idk how they effectively can watch and critique the film for what it was in the time it was produced. It's a classic movie amongst Black people, especially, b/c there are so many relatable moments here. I don't care if the reviewers like the movie or not but it felt heavy on the critique without much background knowledge or what was going on.
Also, there was EVERY reason for her to pretend to be a nun. She would never have been hired. I felt that was super obvious.

Oof. The cynicism. I hope you shelve that in the classroom. This movie is wholesome and full of talented singers and it's a great story...even from the perspective of teaching, you guys could have talked about the good choices Delores was making with her students or the issues that may be impacting some of their behavior in class. It's also wild that you guys talk so confidently about what school in urban America in the 90s was like as if you can relate at all to that experience. I'm just saying, not a lot of reactors do Sister Act 2 so I was excited to see people watch and enjoy it and you both literally just made fun of it the whole time. If that's the kind of channel you want to be, where you just pompously pick at things you don't get, that's your prerogative. But if you gave it the benefit of the doubt and approached it with an open mind, you might have even had fun with it.

Worst reaction I have ever seen; I couldn't watch the whole video. I've never seen anyone criticize literally every line and movement of a movie. Also, these guys are very uncomfortable with heart felt and emotional scenes. They either skip through the emotional scenes or laugh. I wonder how they are in their relationships.

1 - The newspaper dispensers existed here in the States well into the 2000s. Those weren't backlot props. They were a staple on most streets in San Francisco all through the 90s.
2 - You guys have a disconnect between your own experiences with students, and the experience of teachers and students in certain urban areas of the States in the 80s and 90s. Catch yourselves up by watching Lean On Me, Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, etc. You'll see where this movie gets its vibe from.
3 - You guys have seriously underestimated how much of a fan following this movie still has to this day. I don't think you get how slighted the fanbase feels off your reaction. Which is your reaction, so do you. But I was directed here, and they weren't exaggerating. The condescending vibe kind of ruins the whole experience.

So in the US there was a period of time including in the 80’s where most teachers at Catholic schools had to be a nun or a priest.

    • @Hiett1
      @Hiett1 8 месяцев назад +4

Yes and No. It was and is common to have some civilian teachers in the mix at Catholic schools. However Civilian Teacher had to have a Teaching credential where as nuns and Brothers (Fransiscan Friers) did not they could teach without certification there was some continuing education and training for nun to teach but it was often unaccredited. Private religous school do not have the same standards requirements. Deloris has to be a nun because she is not a certified teacher. is even alluded to in the movie, "Why am i dressed like a nun again" Deloris, "If they find out your are neither a teacher or a nun," Mary Patrick. "They'll ask me to leave." Deloris "In a new york minute." Mary Lazaris, this indicates for me that had she been a licensed teacher she would not have needed to wear the habit. But Producing false documents was a line to far instead she dress like a nun.

I have an aunt that's a Catholic nun! She's been a 3rd-grade teacher for nearly 50 years! She has worked extremely hard all of these years and deserves more respect than what the two of you were dishing out! Not all Catholic schools have teachers who aren't nuns. It depends on the convent and the church. I really didn't appreciate the two of you rattling off insults, especially about nuns, when you really had no idea what you were talking about! I, myself am a musician and singer and have 7 relatives that are music teachers of all different grades and ages. It's not a job, it's a passion. I didn't see any evidence of that with you two. I feel sorry for your students who miss out on having a teacher who cares about them and their education. You didn't pay enough attention to the movie to even know what you were making fun of! Your reaction is the worst I've ever seen! You won't be getting any other views from me!

First time watching you guys. Just a FYI... I'm 50 yrs old. From California. Being to Vegas many times now....I don't gamble. There's a lot to do, museums, theaters, musicals, amazing food, live shows...I would recommend you to visit once at least.
2- You kept saying there was no reason to pretend to be a nun. YES. There was. The people in charge of the school and those waiting to close the school would have NOT ALLOWED her to be there as a teacher with her background and story. This is why only a few knew she was a Vegas performer.
3- I'm sure with all the criticism and taking you do... You probably missed a few things here and there while killing it for the rest of us. You enjoyed your wine more than watching this classic.
Don't take it too seriously. It's a movie, a musical comedy, with an intention of taking the audience to a 'magical' time and space. It's not DOUBT (The other nun movie). That's a real serious movie. Thanks for sharing.

Damn, I really love Sister Act 1 and 2, they're just silly goofy joyful wholesome movies to enjoy, almost nobody reacts to them and it's so sad that you being one of them were just awful about it.
I tried giving you a chance and watch the whole thing through but I can't, you're really pissing me off. You spent most of the time making comments about the "sets" and the kids being "40", what is insightful or educational about that?

OMG you two clearly don't know much about schools in the US. 1) Teachers can absolutely kick students out and do it all the time. 2) there are massive areas in cities across the country where there aren't public schools and private parochial schools fill those deserts. 3) they're always changing the curriculum in US districts and it really does seem like there's "new math" being taught every five years. 4) Many Catholic schools require nuns and habits, but its different everywhere. The four Catholic high schools in my city were VERY different. My school didn't have those requirements, but we did have the weird stuff that you two seem to think only exist in sets. We had our music room in a former gym located on the sixth level of our school. There were classrooms buried in the basement with no finishes like that, and we had weird ramps all over because half of our building was four levels and built in a different area where the ceiling heights were different so every hallway had random steps and ramps in the middle.
Also, we had those newspaper boxes on our streets until 2010.
This movie wasn't supposed to be realistic, it was supposed to be fun...but it was far more realistic that the two of you seem to think.

It is none the less their reaction channel and so they are in fact entitled to react as they wish.
I should say I think part of the issue here is that what was not taken into account of by them is the fact that this was written mainly as a musical with a school being simply the setting. This the school seeing is as realistic as 'Greece' or 'Greece 2' Which were also set in a film, but even I would question how realistic the school seeing is, but that's not the point of those films either.
I should also say I myself love this film, (yes love the film) both as a musical and as a teaching film. I even prefer it to the original sister act. But I love the songs and the story.

I don’t know about the catholic schools over where you live, but the ‘good piano in the chapel’ was actually the piano in the community church. The catholic schools in my area are named for the parish church they are attached to, and we would not ever have had classes in the church in any of my schools, we might have gone there for prayer and mass and blessings and if we were having a big sacrament we would have one rehearsal in the church, but that was it. It was a sacred space and was not to be used as a community room - at any time a parishioner may come in to pray, and there were community rooms available that were not sacred and so you would use them for non sacred tasks. The girls using the piano for practice for the masses they were singing was acceptable because they would stop in respect if someone came in, but you would not be able to stop your lesson.
I do love this movie, and I am very much enjoying the commentary. Just wanted to put my two cents in here because people seem to be quite sore about this one. I’m having a blast.
