  • Join real teachers JC and Simon as they react to the 2003 movie "School of Rock" starring Jack Black. They will break down the movie from a teacher perspective, and let you know how realistic and/or effective Jack Black is as a teacher.

I think this movie is a masterclass in teaching kids about passion and motivation. He made EVERYONE feel important. It's really cool that he gave them confidence in each of their skills, and encouraged Tamica and Zach when he saw they were down.

The fact that his housemate was a registered substitute teacher in that district and had already been working in that district (which is why the sub call came to his apartment) indicates that Dewey would not have needed to present any registration paperwork at the school site. He would likely be asked to sign in, and although asking for a photo identification seems like a reasonable precaution, it is not necessarily required nor done. In my state substitute teachers do not need to be Certified (licensed), only regular classroom teachers on permanent contract, so Dewey would have the right to substitute, but by not registering under his own name, providing a high school diploma or GED, and passing a background check, he is committing identity theft. (Not to mention kidnapping when he took the kids off-campus without parental permission in writing and approved transportation.)

@Benny-Frank Not sure how any of that was trolling. The reactors are teachers, the aspects of teaching presented in the movie were among those topics upon which they were commenting. I provided a bit of context on the topic from the U.S. aspect, since substitute teacher requirements and regulations would understandably vary internationally. The reactors thanked me for the info. If you think it sounds like "brown-nosing" to become the teacher's pet, fine, but trolling?

As of the 22 minute mark, this is not a movie reaction, it's a podcast that has a movie playing in the background. How much of the movie did you actually watch? So many iconic moments just talked over and basically ignored, shame

Just discovered your channel. I'm a retired teacher (2021) in Alaska and thought I'd enjoy your perspective, especially pertaining to a school-related movie. BTW, I'm also a Gen-X musician (like Jack Black's character) and I occasionally brought instruments into the classroom to have a musical lesson. (I taught world languages, not math, by singing songs in the target language.)

A couple notes for the teachers from a professional reaction watcher.
    1. You two have the fun and the funny down to a science.
    2. You talked over at least 30% of the dialogue. You're funny but not funnier than the movie. Save all your opinions and observations for your post movie wrap up. Try not to speak unless nobody else is. People watching you love these movies and it's frustrating to us when you're talking over our favorite parts.
I only offer these criticisms because this channel has the potential to blow up. Two teachers will have special insights that others can't offer. I also believe that, being teachers, you'll take this as constructive criticism and not be just being an internet troll.
I'm officially your 14th subscriber and if you take my advice and watch good movies you'll have 1000 subscribers inside of a month. Looking forward to watching you grow!
Also, let's be honest, teacher JC was the real offender here. 😂

I totally get what you are saying, unfortunately if we don't talk over the movie (or commentate as fair use puts it) we get taken down for copyright. Great feedback though, perhaps we can change the way we edit it...

@@GatBlackistanI’m not gonna lie if someone commented on one of my reactions with the kind of comments you’ve made here With the attitude and the “not a good excuse” shit I wouldn’t take too kindly to it at all BUT, I have to agree; that’s why during my reactions if I’m going to say something I pause it and if it was during a part that wasn’t concluded I go back a few seconds. I know I’m doing something right though. The amount of people on my Patreon and how many of them are paying for my $6.19/$8/$12.40 a month tiers proves it. 💁🏻‍♂️

    • @GatBlackistan

@@YorkshiremanReacts26 I'm a fan of the pause, talk and rewind method and since you took the time to reply to me, I took the time to check out a few of your videos. My criticisms are as follows:
You have an incredible laugh so it's fun watching you watch comedy. Your commentary is pretty witty on shows like extreme cheapskates, even though there is a lot of it. Most of your content (Things like Rab C. Nesbitt) is hilarious I'm sure but completely unintelligible to non locals. That's 100% perfectly cool if you want to limit your audience size but if you want to reach an international audience and really grow your channel you're going to have to start reacting to more mainstream videos. Lastly, the production value is poor so I look forward to you spending some of that patreon money on a new mic first and eventually a new camera. I offer these criticisms to you and the teachers for free and I don't care if you like it or not. When you started making content publicly you became a public figure and opened yourself up to folk like me who love the genre and want to see quality content. I also work in a creative field and my work is criticized daily. I appreciate it because it makes me better as long as I don't take it personally. Keep grinding young man because I believe your future is bright. Subscribed.

Hey guys, I really liked the insight and perspective you guys bring. I also wanted to offer some constructive feedback before I subscribe. To touch on what another commenter said about talk/watch balance, I think it depends on what you guys want to watch and how much resources you can devote to editing. It was badly presented in my opinion, but i understand the frustration as well.
If you guys want to keep the current format, I recommend keeping content restricted to things you both are quite familiar with. This will garner a different, likely smaller, audience but with some overlap. I understand RUclips can get heavy-handed with copyright stuff, but you must understand, a lot of the joy of seeing videos like this is seeing someone go through the journey of absorbing and commenting on something they love, and seeing someone seemingly ignore the details that make it special can be frustrating.
The solution, however, is heavy editing. A lot of creators will blur, mute, or even omit footage while they voice occasional commentary. If you keep contextual footage/audio under 10 minutes, and fill the rest of the runtime with commentary clips, you should have less trouble. But this process requires either your own time or paid time by an editor, and typically results in shorter videos.
I dont have a magical solution, but hopefully what's in here will help you find it. Good luck!

To quickly summarize this particular reaction is more like:

In the context of a movie reaction, there was mostly nothing evident from which to react to.

To continue on with the talk/watch balance theme that another person started on in their comment....I have a question for the teacher, no not the teacher that has seen this movie 40 times already but rather for the teacher that has only seen the movie once and that was obviously awhile back (see, I was paying attention). What was really happening in this movie? No, not a very general overview but what was going on in the different scenes type of overview. I would really be surprised if you could answer that because the two of you talked and talked and talked and talked about lots of stuff and very little of it was about what was happening in the movie. Don't actually bother trying to explain what was going on in the scenes because you are a teacher which means that you already know all about cheating and there would be no way for me to tell if you sat down and rewatched this movie (paying serious attention this time) before typing a reply. I only submitted this comment to draw more attention to the very serious flaw you have in your reactions. How can you expect the viewers of your reactions to believe anything you say about the movie when so much of the movie is passing you by as you are very much into a conversation? Nobody is that good at catching what is happening when they are paying so little attention. You should already know that because you are teachers.
