Mavrovic had one of the best chins I’ve ever seen at heavyweight. The shots he took and never stumbled were really good shots and lots of them. I’m surprised we never saw much more of him in the 90’s. He was good 👍🇬🇧
Why we didn't see Mavrovic again was because nobody wanted a piece of him. He took everything Lewis threw and was never rocked, and threw solid shots back at him. He could have dropped some top 10 world heavyweights. Why in the hell would you take that risk unless there was a big purse put up? Zeljko was not a stiff, but a durable fighter.

@aaron pryor Agreed, that is usually the case. But in this case, I think Mavrovic would have been better off doing what Ruiz did, take it on the chin and just keep coming forward, and lay the man out. LL was a great fighter, great technique, but watching this fight, and the 2 fights where he was knocked down and lost, he doesn't have a great chin. That is why I think LL would have lost to a prime Tyson with Rooney still as his trainer [and Cus still being alive], and LL wouldn't have beaten a hard puncher with a good chin like Foreman in his prime.

That was a great fight. Mavrovic was tough, fast and came with a plan, attack first. His style of charging in whilst throwing straight lefts and rights, especially in the first three rounds, would have been a challenge for anyone to contend with. All credit to Lennox, he did what he had to and turned the fight around for a comprehensive win on points. Mavrovic had a 27-0 undefeated record up to this contest and was the no 1 contender. He'd ko'd a lot of opponents during early rounds, so LL was wise to be cautious. Notably Mavrovic retired after this fight, As a footnote, the US commentary team was without exception, lamentable.

I remember watching this fight and Lewis was in his prime here. Never heard of the other guy but Lewis said he trained very hard and wasn't underestimating anybody. I thought 3 or 4 rounds max before Zeljko gets ko'ed. Man I was shocked how tough he really was.
Kudos to Mavrovoc for going the distance, he is a hard case for sure. This was his last fight, he then developed a mysteryillness and lost a lot of weight, He also went into the agriculture business producing his own Eco Friendly food products but unfortunately I don't think it worked out. There was supposed to be a comeback in 2013 at the age of 43 but it was called off when he suffered broken ribs in sparring (not a good sign.) Not sure what else he's doing now but I think he might be a boxing reporter / commentator / pundit in his home country.
Mavrovic is naturally weights up to 85 kg max. He used to much additives or some shit to keep this weight around 100 kg for heavyweight. Those additives fuck up his health, especially his liver! If you see his looking now, that is his natural look.
Zelcho was very good for sure.. He was much avoided at the time.. Mccall, Hide, Akwinwande, the young Klitchos - no one wanted to fight him... Tyrel Biggs sparred with Zelcho for the Lewis fight.. Tyrel said Zelcho was much better than he thought.. Lewis knocked everything out of him in this fight..You could see Zelcho hated body shots..
Man, boxing commentators are hilarious! I think their wit is matched only by Baseball commentators (A sport that I also love) Jim Lampley's one of, if not the, best: "I think he trained only a minute for the Briggs fight"; "If Zeljko upsets Lewis, will you start cooking tofu are your grill George?" LOL. Having said that, I think they seriously underestimated Mavrovic here. The way he stood there and took Lewis' best, while biding his time to deliver power shots of his own, spoke of a man who knew how the gas in his tank functioned: short fuses with high effectiveness--BOOM, BOOM, BOOM ⛽ Not that I think Lewis got outclassed here, he outboxed him for sure (I have it 9-2-1), but like my Dad always told me when I was a small child watching combat sports with him, "The Great thing about watching Heavyweights [fight] is all it takes is One Punch to end it." I believe Mavrovic had the cardio to best Lewis at the end, but he got put at Psychological disadvantaged early on by Lewis' punishing volleys! Great fight all around!
George got it right-Lennox had a great jab (& a devastating straight right) but Lennox tended to get lazy, the times he lost we’re times were he didn’t employ them straight punches enough and looked past his opponents. He went hook-to-the-nogging crazy in both of them McCall fights.
Lennox had Alot of holes in his style. I kind of liked him better as a fighter before steward. Yeah Steward had success but he went too far into safety first. It also put more bad habit's Easter to see. He was fortunate to not fight many that could exploit them.
Lewis was one of the best heavyweights, maybe the best of his time. But it would've been very interesting if he could have fought a prime Ali, or a prime Foreman, or even Mike Tyson of the late 1980's. Vitali K. was ahead of him on the scorecards.
Lewis knocked out Mike Tyson, but couldn't properly defeat a guy twice thinner than Tyson. Don't get me wrong, this is not aimed against Lennox, who is a top boxer by anyone's opinion. I'm just saying that nobody expected this much resistance from Mavrovic (just look at him) against one of the best boxers of all times. And Lewis is definitely that.
@@cinegraphics Maybe Mavrovic had a way better chin than Tyson and was never stopped in his career ? And being heavier does not automatically make your chin better.
Lenox was never the most exciting champion. But we all know he NEVER ducked anyone and fought all and any of the best there were to fight. Unlike some other noted heavy weights of this era.
@@robloxvids2233 It's possible. Nut not likely. He knew Vitale wasen't going to be an easy fight yet fought him anyway. And did so in probably in the worst shape in his life. At his age he probably just wanted to go out on top rather than train for 4 months for a rematch. He didn't Mcall after being Ko'd by him, and didn't duck Rachman after being ko'd by him either. So it wouldn't stand to reason he would duck Vitale who didn't even knock him down, and was a much closer fight.
@@mrtrek64 I guess it's time to retire while still was a champion. He was 38, enough fights to end a career as an undisputed champ. The only one missing fight is against Riddick Bowe.

Good fight and yes the Croatian is tough and a very good boxer! Listening to the commentary..is it just me but the quality of technical observation is higher then that it seems to be now
It's not just you. These fighters we have right now are a shadow of their predecessors.
@@eliking3333 Glad someone else agrees! - how would the heavyweights today have dealt with the calibre of for examples, Marvrovic, David Tua, Ikeabutchi, Chris Byrd, Ray Mercer....never mind Lennox Lewis!...all of them formidable opponents

Statutory Grape. Looks like a Steven Seagal relative lol
yes, loser and what else can a vegan be when he fights against a meat eater?
Guess Aaron you wouldt tell him that in his face would you... He was in a fight for the Titel in heavyweight. To come there is a loooong way of sweating blood. and now look at your comment. Did your mama not explain to you how that works?
Inferior? Who are you Lennox ? haha.is all good Aaron
Excelente pelea muy buenos Boxiadores
Молодец Мавровик. Красава против Люйса продержался до конца и без нокаута. Редкий случай.
Договорняк. Льюис тупо не добил
Old boxing was beautiful
Mav is a warrior. If more combos by him would have been better .
I searched for this video to see Mavrović but I was satisfied within one minute seeing Frank cappuccino
just a couple of years before this fight Croatia where Zeljko is from was at war. He put it all out in this one. great work!!
I remember watching this fight and Lewis was in his prime here. Never heard of the other guy but Lewis said he trained very hard and wasn't underestimating anybody. I thought 3 or 4 rounds max before Zeljko gets ko'ed. Man I was shocked how tough he really was.
Lennox Lewis was a crumb cake short of being a bum.
Lennox said he didn’t train for 12 rounds and that’s why he was huffing so much at the end

Some guys are just built different. The guy just wouldn't go down.
A good fight
Lennox Lewis had the best pre-fight stare of any fighter I’ve ever seen. He looks like a man that’s ready for anything.
با تشکر خسته نباشید عالی بود
Fuck me maybe he could have been a good cruiserweight!!
Lewis mentioned this fight on Joe Rogan and said how Mavrović was one of his toughest opponents. He said Mavrović just would not fall.
P km
I didn't expect zeljko to fight with Lewis, but he fought bravely and skilfully, he is a great player
Both fighters are good but Lennox is better.
Negative, Lennox was the best fighter in that periode, one of the best in history I can say..
Mavrovic was a great boxer, it's a shame he decided to end his career after this fight. Would love to see Mavrovic vs Klitschko's.
He fought very well in the pocket for an under sized HW.
Mavrovic has faced Lewis with great boxing technique. Lewis has on some occasions proved to be very uncomfortable in attacking.

Dame auto correct...

They gave round 7 to Lewis? I mean, seriously?
I agree. Lewis did not win that round. He may have ultimately won the fight but he sure as hell didn’t do it in round 7!

@@davidbrandel1311 Two of the three judges gave Mavrovic round 7.
Mavrovic absorbed a beating. I give him credit for enduring it..Some other would have crumbled under the pressure...
exactly my friend. And his weight was no comparison for Lenox weight. but yes, hats of to both
Lewis was one of the best heavyweights, maybe the best of his time. But it would've been very interesting if he could have fought a prime Ali, or a prime Foreman, or even Mike Tyson of the late 1980's. Vitali K. was ahead of him on the scorecards.

Lenox was one of the best of all time, great champion and with his stealy stare. Hard to beat.
Lewis knows every trick in the book and is a master of the game-
Lewis knocked out Mike Tyson, but couldn't properly defeat a guy twice thinner than Tyson.
And being heavier does not automatically make your chin better.
.
Boxing oficial pls request only. Give us more more boxing fight. 15.rounders thank. You. God bless you..
Frank Agustin.
Lenox was never the most exciting champion. But we all know he NEVER ducked anyone and fought all and any of the best there were to fight. Unlike some other noted heavy weights of this era.
He ducked Vitali II.

A lot of bravery from both boxers, not all of them received 12 assaults on that champion
