I agreed with the commentators , Tucker don't have the desire in this fight. He should be tactically aggressive when he got a chance. After all he is the Challenger.
I really wonder if Tucker was suffering from low testosterone. His whole demeanor throughout the fight seemed off, even in the corner between rounds. He had that weird disinterested, bloated look that James Toney developed later in his career.
Tucker was a little better than was given credit, he was a very competent fighter during the late 80's & early 90's, capable of giving anyone a hard fight. Lewis was much maligned for this performance which was a touch harsh as it wasn't going to be an easy fight for him.
They say lennox was a legend? I say how so it was him being a much younger fresher 27yr old vs an old 34 Yr battle worn fighter that wasn't in his prime.
Lewis was still green at his stage of his career & was very much a work in progress, whereas Tucker was an experienced fighter who was still world class, having lost only one fight, he defeated McCall & Norris to gain his mandatory position. Tony Tucker did everything he could. If he showed more offense he would have got knocked out. Lewis is younger, faster and more powerful. Losing by decision is a lot better than getting knocked out
Naw I don't know. Tuckers punches were not that powerful to Lennox but Lennox also didn't have the greatest ability to take direct force. Not to the chin. He was knocked out twice wobbled by Bruno,Briggs, holyfield and Klitschko for sure. Lennox was bigger and taller than a lot of his opponents but up against men his own size he was often hurt.
Jimmy Jacobs was very impressed by Tucker when he fought Tyson, and if I remember correctly, wanted to manage him. Don't know what happened to end that plan.
For those who talk shit on Tyson and his caliber of opponents, this is the one that shuts them up. Lewis couldn't knock out a much older version than what Tyson fought. Tucker took both the distance. He was truly a reflection of just how tough these "lesser" fighters really were. Tyson and Lewis did not have an easy time, they were just superior fighters who made it look easy.
@@FFMM7yeah well Tysons crack head sparing partner knocked out Lennox Lewis. Early Tyson not only united the belts and cleaned up the division while holyfield and Lennox Lewis were little league he also threw and landed more punches than anyone. He was extremely hard to hit while being extremely aggressive. Younger Tyson under cus and Rooney was there to kill, had the speed , power and the best defense. After getting with king it was all over.
That was Lewis Day!Tucker did very well too.it was the judges job also to give credit to whom credit is due.thank you for another boxing episode.God Bless you all.
Tucker was still decent when Lewis faced him & capable of giving him a stern test, which is what he did. Lewis was so convincing against Ruddock, we assumed he would do the same with Tucker & when he didn't, it was viewed as disappointing but looking back in hindsight, it was an encouraging performance.
The commentators don't like Tucker only because he's patient...they want a crowd-pleaser like Tyson. But fortunately for him he does what he knows he needs to do instead of what the talking heads think. Then Lewis demonstrated real maturity in not getting frustrated and going all out. Maybe not the most exciting fight but at the end of the day it's about winning, not entertaining.
I had no idea about What Tony Tucker had been thru until they said before the fight, I always find it sad to see what seems to be a decent person getting beat up like this.
What do you mean, what Tucker had been through? Tucker was in good form leading up to the fight with Lewis, he'd beaten McCall & Norris which gave him his mandatory & was 14-0 with his comeback since fighting Tyson & had no injuries in the build-up.
There is an abyss between the Pepe Correa's Lewis and the Manny Steward's Lewis. It's about knowing when you have a gem, a disciplined guy for whatever, but its potential is very far to be exploited. The misinterpretation of making Lewis a quick KO guy when he had many other ways, not excluding the KO, of dominating a fight.
Tony Tucker is like a football team who play well but doesn't score, he went too far with Lewis and Tyson but he didn't punch in a way that make him a champ
Lewis was the WBC mandatory based on his strong win over Ruddock & Bowe's dodge of Lewis appeared so blatant at the time, they figured it was the right move, though Tucker had an argument as he became Lewis' mandatory based on wins over McCall & Norris fighting for the vacant title would also have been a good call.
@@isabellamcloughlan6082 buster douglas was the toughest opponent for tucker not lewis. He was past his prime here and in a younger tucker would have beat lewis
Yes i believe so, they've had a press conference officially announcing the fight, interesting to see who will prevail, i was leaning towards Fury prior to his recent showing though i'm not so sure now, Usyk is an excellent technician & Fury will need to be at the top of his game to beat him.
Since boxing is a corrupt sport, a fighter can be privately paid a lot of money outside the ring so that the other fighter wins easily. That's not Toney Tucker i know
Tucker was 35 year old and not in his prime look back at tucker vs tyson and see the shape tucker was in for the tyson fight. If same tucker showed up he would of won and been champion which he deserved, Tucker a good fighter
Tucker was 34 when he fought Lewis & was coming off wins over McCall & Norris, which is what gave him his mandatory position, he wasn't quite the fighter who'd faced Tyson but was still a formidable opponent, whereas Lewis was green and a work in progess & hadn't yet developed into the fighter he was to become, they were both at different stages of their careers.
There was a two year window where Bowe could have beaten Lewis but he didn't seem to fancy it. When you have a win over a fighter, it gives you a psychological advantage & although Bowe dismissed Lewis' victory in the Olympics, i suspect it played on his mind & affected him.

I feel like he would've beaten him 92-96. Mercer only trained two weeks for Lewis arguably could've got the decision or atleast a draw.
Tucker didn't fulfil his enormous potential, that's obvious. But he took Tyson and Lewis the full distance. In retrospect, that in itself is a worth a belt or two.
Tucker knocked out Douglas who in turn knocked out Tyson, winning the IBF belt was mission accomplished, a marauding Tyson put pay to any chance of longevity.
@@peterhaye8537Tyson was the least of Tucker's problems. Had he layed off the coke he could / should have been a big factor in the early 90s following Tyson's fall. Instead he was barely on the fringes.
Difficult to say, Tucker was a wiley fighter with a lot of experience whereas Lewis was green & a work in progress, i would pick Lewis at his peak to beat any version of Tucker but the younger Tucker who faced Tyson may have beaten Lewis at this stage of his career, would have stood a good chance, Tucker was underrated.
Not necessarily, there was nothing to suggest Tucker was on the downslide, he'd only lost to Tyson & his victories over McCall & Norris had given him his mandatory, it was always going to be a difficult fight for Lewis, who was still evolving as a fighter at that stage of his career.
@peterhaye8537 lewis was 27 years old here and he must be at his best physical shape at this age. On the other hand tucker is 34 years old in a very bad shape, he is heavy and very slow compared to when he fought mike tyson back in 1987. Lewis was still green & developing as a boxer, Tucker was his mandatory based on victories over McCall & Norris & was never going to be an easy fight for Lewis. The 90's was regarded as the last golden era in heavyweight boxing & Lewis is ranked within the heavyweight pantheon top ten, having amassed 15 successful world title defences, retiring on a win at 38.
On the contrary, Lewis had just knocked out Ruddock inside two rounds, who at the time was the WBC mandatory & was awarded the belt when Bowe refused to fight him, his first defence was against Tony Tucker, another mandatory, who was given his shot based on wins over McCall & Norris, Lewis was never a known ducker & would always try to make fights.
Kedua petinju sebenarnya mempunyai pukulan yg sama keras..tapi keduanya baik tony tukcer maupun lebnox lewis sangat berhati hati..dg cara bertanding jarak jauh. .jadi jarang kena pukulan...tapy lewis bangga dapat memukul jatuh di ronde ke 3...dan lewis tetap menang bertanding

Tucker did a good job but he really mailed in that last round, your last round with the champ and you give up. I don't get it, you were going to lose by points or knock out either way so he might as well went for it.
The heavyweight division during the 90's was golden, we had five potential world beaters & a who's who of decent fringe contenders, all of whom had a story to tell & were capable of winning a world title. Lewis was still a work in progress at this stage of his career & went on to become a better fighter.
@@SteveJones-tw5ss The Heavyweights of the '90s were inconsistent. It says something when the man to hold the title the longest was a Boxing star from the '70s, who was in his forties.
Lewis ran from tucker in later rounds was tired in late rounds, Lewis went down twice from fight because he was running. Both should have been called a knock down. Tucker was the aggressive fighter. When tyson fought tucker tucker was running and tyson won big, Lewis is lucky he won fight.......
Lewis went down twice? No he didn't, he slipped in round 11 but it wasn't scored a knockdown as a punch did not land. Which rounds did you score for Tucker? I gave him 1, 10 & 11, it wasn't a close fight, Tucker became the aggressor in rounds 10 & 11 because he knew he was so far behind he had to finish strongly but as was often the case, he didn't do enough to win. I'm not quite sure how you reached the assumption Lewis was lucky, Tucker gave him a good fight though nothing more than.
Same entry music Lewis used for Holyfield--very soothing I must say...It's hard to compare 2 fighters just by looking at them, but Lewis--for as big as he was--seems to be in the same speed ballpark as Larry Holmes. And, in Larry's young years/prime VS Lennox's young years/prime, Lennox was much bigger. It's scary when a fighter is that big, is that fast, has great KO power, was the best cutting puncher of all time, and was one of the greatest power counterpunchers of all time(if his 2 counter-uppercuts connected, it meant that it was over--never saw anyone come close to getting up from those)!
@@ScottHendrix-yz3du You never know with boxers. Even those that did not have power could have -> even AIi had a body of brass and his chin was a good bit better than it was earlier. However, Frazier hit him over and over again and dropped him once in the 15th round. AIi got up and took some incredible punches after the knockdown! Both AIi and Frazier could have been! He was definitely saved by the bell but Ali did have absolutely amazing ability to take punishment. I honestly don't think Lennox could have beaten Ali at his best because of that. As far as roids holyfield is definitely one of my favorite but it was said steroids were mailed to his address and his former trainer called them VITAMINS. 😂 He would say before holyfield got on the vitamiiiiins he thought holy field was better. 😉. Vitamins is code for roids. Lennox was a been pole to big look at holyfield below. The knockdowns made the difference in this fight. Tucker had his moments. You could score 4 maybe 5 rounds for Tucker here. Impressive.
Tucker had lost just one fight prior & had never been knocked down, yet Lewis received no credit whatsoever for this win, a little harsh.

I really wonder if Tucker was suffering from low testosterone. His whole demeanor throughout the fight seemed off, even in the corner between rounds. He had that weird disinterested, bloated look that James Toney developed later in his career.
Tucker was an outfighter, it was his style to be defensive & counter-punch.

Losing by decision is a lot better than getting knocked out
Lewis received no credit for beating Tucker, who was still a decent fighter on & around that period & could have beaten a lesser fighter than Lewis.

Younger Tyson under cus and Rooney was there to kill, had the speed , power and the best defense.

What do you mean, what Tucker had been through?
Tucker was in good form leading up to the fight with Lewis, he'd beaten McCall & Norris which gave him his mandatory & was 14-0 with his comeback since fighting Tyson & had no injuries in the build-up.
Lewis is always so relaxed. This fight shows the future GOAT in the making.
There is an abyss between the Pepe Correa's Lewis and the Manny Steward's Lewis.

This fight should have been for the Vacant WBC tittle. Didn’t like how they awarded Lewis with the belt 🥊
I was hoping to see the tony tucker who fought Mike Tyson for 12 rounds

Tucker was 35 year old and not in his prime look back at tucker vs tyson and see the shape tucker was in for the tyson fight. If same tucker showed up he would of won and been champion which he deserved, Tucker a good fighter

There was a two year window where Bowe could have beaten Lewis but he didn't seem to fancy it.

I wouldn't think so or he wouldn't have signed to him the following year and Gonzalez. He was upset with the ref's decision also felt Lewis lied about knocking him out felt he had help from the ref.
Easy to say when you have never fought in your life.
As good as Lewis became, if it wasn't for the poor state of the HW division, he may have well 'disappeared.'
The heavyweight division during the 90's was golden, we had five potential world beaters & a who's who of decent fringe contenders, all of whom had a story to tell & were capable of winning a world title.
Lewis was still a work in progress at this stage of his career & went on to become a better fighter.

Are you blind ? Lewis did NOT go down. The better man won by a wide margin.
Google how he looked when he first became pro. You can't tell me Lennox like holyfield didn't do roids.
@@ScottHendrix-yz3du You never know with boxers. Even those that did not have power could have -> even AIi had a body of brass and his chin was a good bit better than it was earlier. The cameras is in his face because they know Ali is punch drunk. His corner is franticly waving the towel faning him , putting Ice water on his head and doing smelling salts. 😂 Ali still jumps up before the bell and they have to pull him down because Ali isn't sure what's happening.
He was definitely saved by the bell but Ali did have absolutely amazing ability to take punishment.

This wasn't a peak Lewis either, he was only 22-0 & still green & a work in progress.
Tyson had a lot more difficulty with Ruddock than Lewis did.

yes he does ///tucker has both hands in this bout and Lewis isn't at his best //
@@active.7universal Tucker had serious drug problems here
Tony tucker bacaklarını kaybetmiş gibi. Halbuki tyson dan bacakları kurtarmıştı onu
Tucker of 87 would kill Lewis…
Doubtful, Tucker stated Lewis was the best fighter he fought.
Losser are winner's (tony)you are a champ n't lazy
Both guys were cautious counter punchers which made it a dull fight.

Losers are losers. Are you blind ?
Could a prime mike tyson beat this lennox lewis anybody i think easily
Lewis was green & relatively inexperienced at this stage of his career, he was 22-0 & still amateurish & yet to mature into the complete fighter he did under Steward, i would pick Tyson 86/88 to defeat this version of Lewis.
@@peterhaye8537 yeah same here
@@peterhaye8537 I'd give Tyson a 'puncher's chance', but Lewis did demolish Ruddock, which Tyson had trouble doing. Tyson of course just had the speed and power game, no actual jab. It's definitely not for certain he'd have beaten a younger Lewis. For sure as their careers went along Tyson lost a bit of speed and didn't have much to fall back on; Lewis just got better and better under Steward.
Tucker otro boxeador sin ideas... No tira un golpe... Espera a que lo casquen
