Dayum, I'm going to keep my G18 for another three years but it's nice to see the 18" machines are sticking around and Mini-LED is becoming ubiquitous.
g18 looks horrible compared to the acer predator helios 18 if we're talking 2023. compared to normal laptops its good.
That mini LED screen looks great
Looks nice, depends on what the price ends up at. More interested in the new XMG NEO 17 tho, water cooler covers both gpu and cpu now and has the new 14900hx processor.
Do you know when it'll become available for purchase?
Ohhhh baby I need that!
Brandon, when you eventually test this, if possible, can you see what kind of frame rates you get on silent or normal fan curve? Thanks! 🎉🎉🎉
Great Video.
I saw the 4080 model of scar 18 (2024) at 2999 and i am thinking about getting this over the asus strix G18
I'm in china and could order it today for 5200$ Canadian with the 4090 version, so tempting!
Something like this would carry me to the 2030s for sure.
2k dimming zones is crazy for that size screen. My near $1k 65" tv has 1/4 the dimming zones. Hopefully most higher end laptops are mini led or oled in the next 1-2 years.

What about the Blade's new OLED display?
С рождеством!
Does it also suffer from coil whine like all STRIX/SCAR G16 G18 series did from 2023? Please test it with Vulcan Tescellation.
Most likely, it's a asus and gigabyte thing....been going on for years with their laptops.
it not about the brand .. its just luck .. i got 2 Weeks ago my new HP Omen 16 and i got Coil Whine.. @@mkgriff1492
@@kamyab7019 try tweaking on power option the cpu maximum processor performance to 99% under plugged in.
@@dreadowen616pretty sure it's the gpu that causes the coil whine.
@@user-ph6vw5su7d gpu coil whine is normal when doing intensive task or you're just gaming heavily. But sometimes coil whine happens even in idle, so i am not sure it caused by the gpu, but by the cpu itself. Most of the time, only the cpu is running, but when you have a cpu that's high end and has higher clock speed and so on, it consumes more electricity and more current running along the coils when you're just doing almost nothing. Thats why a lot of updates in bios has been about nerfing the cpu or gpu in a laptop especially in asus.
Its crazy how a 4090 from the g14 with the scar 16 vbios will outperform this 4090 at least in. 3dmark. Amazing
zephyrus g 14 will outperform this?? where have you seen such benchmarks?
@@batmanonholiday4477 Only if you install the scar 16 VBIOS so that it will let the laptop run at 150-175 watts of power. I just bought a scar 16 with 4080, hope there's not too much of an upgrade with the 14th gen 😂😂
Man, they added i9 14 already on strix 18, ive seen it announced at ces so i dont know what you put your hands on there
So what about last year’s Acer Predator Triton 17x (2023) model laptop that was a huge competitor to top of the line best laptops for 2023 will we see any huge Acer laptop upgrades at ces this year for the high end laptops?
That Scar 18’ Mini LED laptop looks 😍 can’t wait for the review.
Acer doesn’t have a booth. I saw an Acer person, and sent them an email. But I don’t have a contact at Acer for review unit yet. Working on it
This is great, but Razer dropped the mic with a 240hz qhd oled on the 16. I'll take that any day over mini led.
Zephyrus G16 also has 240 hz OLED display, but at lower gpu tdp
I would personally not risk having a laptop that expensive prematurly obsolete because of burn in.
@@arladeveze84yea but oleds are improving. Just about every new screen technology suffered from burn in early on. Honestly mini led has way too many drawbacks to even compete with oled.
Awesome
They still not bringing back opto-mechanical keyboard to this year 😌
does the one with the 4080 in it have mini led?
What's the resolution for the Asus Scar 18 Mini LED?
2560x1600 2.5k basically
i just bought one of that and i was wondering if you could help me boost it to the best performance since i dont kown how and i will be more than help to pay you
Whoa!
Damn, as a Scar 18 user, kind of sad there's already a new model with Mini LED.. and 2k that is.
I wouldn't let it get you down. It's the only significant change. The 240hz qhd+ on lasts years Model was excellent. I would wait. Blooming on these laptop mini leds can be terrible.
Nah, I'm selling it to someone close and buying myself the new one. YOLO.
@Blue-Lady I would say you're making a mistake. The monitors are rated terribly on Amazon. Pc gamer has a good article. Would be wiser to wait for micro led or OLED, but hey, you live once.
I am curios if this now support 64GB of DDR5-5600MHz . I know that previous version only worked with 32GB of DDR5 at 5600MHz
it does
Focus has left the chat
I think this one has DDR5 5600 ram over the DDR5 4600. In addition it come with 36 gig of ram instead of 16....
There's a 2% increase in speed with the new 14th gen in comparison to the i9 13th gen 13980HX. You're fine guys.
I spent around £3500 on the 2023 ASUS Strix SCAR 18 last year, and also added 2x 4TB Samsung 970 Pro SSDs. I’ve only had it for around six months now, and I’m absolutely loving using it for gaming, movies, and everything else. I’ll probably keep using it until next year when hopefully we will see a new mobile GPU by NVIDIA show up, and that’s when I’ll look into selling this laptop and upgrading to a new one by ASUS.
@@MGRogue what application did you use to clone your ssd?
@@stealth3206 I believe I used Macrium Reflect to clone the entire drive to the 4TB Samsung 970 Pro SSD. I used the second one solely for installed game data, to therefore have more space on the C: drive.
Unfortunately I don’t have the two 970 Pro SSDs in RAID 0, don’t see the point in it anyway
I was able to get the strix g18 4080 2023 version on sale for $2000. Do you think it would be worth the extra $1500 for this version?
Where?
BestBuy had it around that price for Black Friday.
Only if you really want an upgrade to the screen quality and a small upgrade to graphics performance
@@GizmoSlipTech an upgrade to graphics performance? How is it possible, while we have the same GPU and power limit? Is it a better cooling or what? Please, do a review :) and a review of MSI GE 68 Raider. It's a pity it has only 4K screen (which kills the GPU performance) but I wonder which one would be better.

Do you know if these also have the coil whine issue
I have one on hand back at home. Didn’t hear any with quick test
Never any coil whine on my 2023 Scar18.
for a fps gamer would oled be a better option cause its faster?
Yes oled has lower response time and no bloom issues at all with better contrast ratio
Both are good options for fps gamers. Oled has burnin. Mini led doesnt, but it also has bloom. So trade offs.
my MSI gt77 titan with a 4k mini LED 144hz still blows this thing out of the water

Yeah u can cry now for paying too much for that . I love msi but gt77 is equal to this and this is way cheaper, add a iets500 with this strix, still its cheaper and looks sexy
@@GSVSurgeon lol enjoy that coil whine which asus laptops are known for. Also you cant overclock/undervolt asus laptops in the bios.
@@user-dm4eg5od9b Bro i know what you are feeling , enjoy your machine but the fact is whatever this machine cant handle , gt77 wont be able to handle as well even after extreme overclocking or undervolting. In the plus side asus is cheaper better display as per gizmo review it runs cool. Not as heavy still has a great screen and big size. Also to mention, anything cant be done on any machines nowdays. Just maybe take 1 year all tweaks will come and maybe asus will unlock it as time progresses. Still doesnt need much of overclock or undervolt anyway. You by coming and saying your system is better is kind of self defence and guilt you feeling for spending too much on your device
No need to feel anything like that just enjoy your machine, its also good one and every thing will be overtaken after some time. Technology have no value like property or gold, it always degrades with time. So just enjoy what you have. Btw i wanted a 18 inch mini led and i think i found one, i will cope with the coil whine even if it has it haha. This ticks all the bells for me.

Good question… I had switched it to manual mode for broll shots, and the Asus guy that was helping me didn’t realize AF was still disabled and the shot was out of focus
Ok, finally I choose this one ((i9 14th gen + 4090) ) instead of MSI GE68. It's fuc..ing awesome. And has much more better cooling system as compared with Scar 16 (2023). But @GizmoSlipTech (or anyone) - can you provide a screenshot with MSI Afterburner GPU undervolting for this?

Any word on when this new refresh of ROG Strix SCAR 18 will release? I’m guessing at the end of March 2024? Perhaps much later in the year?
I figure if anyone would know, it would be this guy
From doing some research, I’ve found out that most of the new 2024 ASUS laptops will be releasing in the first quarter of this year, so I may be right about this particular 2024 SCAR 18 model releasing at the end of March, we shall see.
I spoke with ASUS support and the page is already available to buy in US and support said it was not a pre-order.
@@brianhannah5318 Ah sweet, but I’m wondering on when it will be on sale in the UK. Last year the 2023 model went on for sale at the very end of March, so I’m guessing that it will be the same for this new one. I’m saving up for it, you see. Selling my old 2023 one. I’m liking both that Mini-LED screen and i9-14000HX processor.
@semmel I’ve decided to swap to the MSI Titan HX A14VI mainly because it has far better features along with the 18” Mini-LED screen. The Cherry MX Ultra-Low Profile Mechanical Per-Key RGB keyboard, 3x SSD slots, 6x Dynaudio speakers system, Vapour cooling chamber, UHD+ (3840x2400) resolution, 270 watts of combined CPU/GPU power, and additional slots are fairly awesome.
There are not enough reasons to upgrade to this new 2024 model from an 2023 ASUS Strix SCAR 18 model. If you don’t already own an ASUS gaming laptop, then by all means, wait to purchase the new 2024 one, otherwise just purchase the 2023 one that already exists, that makes a lot of sense.
Only a few upgrades such as the new Core i9-14900HX, Mini-LED display panel and some memory speed increase. Other than that, both machines are the same. You most certainly won’t notice any performance improvements in games since the new CPU only offers 200Mhz in clockspeed. And that Mini-LED might actually turn out to be a downgrade in visual quality as I’ve found out there are white bloom lighting ghosting that appears around the cursor on screen as it moves around. It may annoy you, or it might not. It’s a personal pretence. It would greatly annoy me.
The visual quality between the Mini-LED and IPS displays are very minimal, only a very slight different in colour. One shows slightly deeper colours, and the other is brighter in contrast.
Selling your own 2023 model, and then “upgrading” to this new 2024 model would be fairly pointless if I have to be perfectly honest as there are little to no meaningful improvements to warrant the need to upgrade.
If you own a 2023 model, just be happy gaming with it, and forget that this “new” refreshed one is even releasing. You’ll regret upgrading to this new 2024 one from the previous one, trust me. Not worth selling your current laptop, and spending the extra cash. You will have the same machine, with virtually nothing changed on screen.
If you don’t already own a gaming laptop, then go ahead and purchase this new 2024 ASUS Strix SCAR 18 once it’s available, you will love it. This is coming from someone who has owned one for six months now, it’s one incredibly powerful gaming machine, and I’m in love with it.
I believe waiting for next years model might be more interesting, if it has new mobile GPU hardware. That would be a reason to upgrade to a new gaming laptop as it will provide meaningful performance improvement in the latest games.
Yeah, if you have 2023 model, not worth upgrading. Almost the same performance. Display is really the biggest difference. Also, Asus claims better coil whine testing on each laptop.
@@GizmoSlipTechDisplay is the biggest difference between the two models. It’s not such a substantial difference though, only slightly deeper colours and black levels. Resolution and screen-size stays the same.
I’ll only upgrade to a new model once new GPU hardware becomes available, probably next year, because then performance in games will be even better. I won’t notice any difference in framerate performance with a 200 MHz clockspeed increase that the CPU brings to the table, it’s pointless. ASUS are just refreshing the SCAR 18 for sales.
@@MGRogue the new display is much brighter and the contrast is noticeable better as well. The 2023 Scar 18 display was still an excellent display though.
Yeah, wait for new GPU if you already have 2023 version for sure
But you can turn off multi zone and just turn it into an IPS model to avoid blooming, right? The question is; does it turn into a good IPS panel without multizoning?
@arladeveze84 it turns into an okay ips display not a great one contrast and brightness takes a huge hit.
*VALUABLE INFO GIZMO! PLEASE NOTIFY ASUS! SCAR 16 (2023) IS FAR BRIGHTER THAN SCAR 18 (2024) WHEN ON HDR! Is there a way to notify ASUS to make the scar 18 brighter or as bright as last years model 16?*
Interesting. Have you tried changing the multzone functionality in Armory crate? It makes a huge difference for overall brightness levels.
I do have both the 2023 Scar 16 and the 2024 Scar 18 on hand, so maybe a side by side comparison would be best
@@GizmoSlipTech I took the scar 16 (2023) out of the box. you can't change multizone when on hdr and display based on gpu. I took it out of the box again. im going to return it tomorrow. Same exact results. I have a picture. Filters seem to be locked when using HDR and multizone when changed to gpu focused. The brightness on the scar 2023 is beyond anything ive ever seen and it says 1260 nits of brightness on mine. i have one picture with me that shows the difference. the scar 18 2024 is extremely bright too but the 2023 16 is on another level. But i remember when playing videos the difference in brightness becomes much closer and the 2024 video looks noticeably better even without pausing. But for browsing the brightness on the 2023 16 is on a whole nother level. And did you see the 2024 msi 18hx $5299. Please tell me if it's brighter than the scar 16 or has better colors than the 2024 scar 18. I really want to know if there is a display that looks better than my scar 18 2024. How do i send a picture on youtube reply. You can clearly see how much brighter the scar 16 is on browsing but when watching hdr and sdr videos the 2024 seems to completely make up for it and the brightness difference is almost unnoticeable not unless you are actively looking. My goal is to obtain the most beautiful display ever. And to my knowledge it is the scar 18 (2024) i have right now. @@GizmoSlipTech You know how to maximize the brightness and display on the scar 16 2023 right? The brightness i see is unbelievable and did cause screen tearing (I did no gaming) rated at 1260nits suposedly. the scar 18 2024 i dont think you need to do the secondary display thing. The research from like 5 years ago said that 240hz is almost unnoticeable to normal human eyes compared to 120hz. Is that true? or did technology change? And does the titan 18hx have a better display than the scar 18 2024?
I dont know what aspect ratio have but i think 16:10 is bad becouse on videos u have black bars 16:9 is standard is better

Is the upgraded HDR dim zones really noticeable from the previous 1000?
The Scar 18 actually didn’t have miniled last year, just Scar 16. I’d say it is not a huge difference, but the display does seem just a tad better. I have both the Scar 16 2023 and Scar 18 2024 on hand, so a side by side comparison would be good.
