The scoring system is the same as at Eurovision: 12 points for winning, 10 points for 2nd place, etc. In the case of a tie, the best result is compared. If it is the same, then the 2nd best result is compared, etc.
What was the criteria for you to start counting the points? Bulgaria didn't participate in ESC 2023 - and it is in the top 10, though Russia is not. Russia should be in the 4th place with 32 points according to this system, if I'm not mistaken.
Absolutely. ANd overlooked is the fact that Marco Mengoni has managed 7TH AND 4TH in his two trips, which really swamps Alexander Rybak, who return to 15th place massively damaged that strength. I believe this makes Marco the most successful single male act since Johnny Logan, but I dont really have the time to fine tune research that.
@@ZakhadWOW No, Sergey Lazarev was better (I mean by results; by music I prefer Marco). He was 3rd two times (in 2016 and in 2019). Even Dima Bilan was better because he had second place in 2006 and first place in 2008.
I've lived in Sweden more than half my life and I have the unpopular opinion that Sweden hasn't been the same in ESC since we stopped sending songs in Swedish. I don't think that "If I were sorry", "I can't go on", "Dance you off" and "Tattoo" deserved the high placings that they got, there were sooo much better songs. Also, Tusse and Robin Stjernberg were underrated. I miss entries like "Den vilda", "Satellit" mm... Also, in the early 2000:s, songs in Swedish actually won the national selections but were sang in English in ESC, for example in 2000 and 2004... and the English versions were not half as good as the Swedish ones... Swedish is a beautiful language and I truly hope that it will be brought back to the Eurovision one day.
I didn't like "If I were sorry" at first, but it grew on me and now I think it's one of the better ones in ESC that year, it was very different from Sweden's other songs lately.

Surprised Azerbaijan and Russia arent on the list. Even when you dont know their songs when you see those flags in your semi you always expect it to be the semifinal of death.
Even though Russia didn't compete last 2 years, Russia would be 4th place. All other from Norway to Belgium will be moved one place down. Bulgaria wouldn't be in top 10.
Sweden, Italy and Ukraine are true powerhouses. But I have to admit that Italy and Ukraine songs are just on another level. Sweden is great, don't get me wrong, but it's ALWAYS, ALWAYS the same generic, pop song.
And there is ALWAYS ALWAYS a Sweden hater. Calling "Tattoo" and "Hold me closer" generic, shows that you don´t understand the meaning of the word. Both songs and the performances are emotional and artistic. And I have never understood the criticism against pop songs in the ESC. They are fun and entertaing, as long as they are catchy and performed by good and professional artists. If every country sent ballads and ethnic songs it would be a very boring contest. The main reason why I love ESC is the diversity.
@@OliviaMalmo you said it: "the main reason why I love ESC is the diversity". You didn't get my point tho. I'm absolutely NOT against pop songs, I actually love them. But Sweden ALWAYS bring an ENGLISH, POP song. Italy always sing in Italian, Ukraine 90 % of times in Ukrainian. In the last 10 editions they have brought so many different genres (pop, rock, ethnic, ballad, rnb, rap, opera). For example, I enjoy tattoo more than Due Vite and Heart of Steel, but I appreciate the italian and ukrainian effort way more.
@@alterego5824 You are right Alter Ego. I don't really get your point. I don´t understand your definition of "generic". So a pop song in English is always generic for you? Is the English languauge your main problem? Well, this is a contest. And since Sweden started to send songs in English we had much better results in the competion. But I would actually be very happy if we for once sent a song in Swedish. But unfortunately I don´t think a song in Swedish ever will win the Melodifestivalen with the present jury-system. (Melodifestivalen is our pre-selection to Eurovision.) Since 2009 we have an international jury that are invited from different countries. And when a song in Swedish is doing well in the televotes, the international jury always ruins it´s chances to win, unfortunately. They almost never vote for a song in Swedish.

It's not the fault with the song nor the language nor the artists but the songwriter itself don't want to evolve, don't want to expand nor change, not try anything new, have written too many songs with many too simular vibes for too long, it's time to change that pattern and give a new talented songwriter a go. Hold me Closer was written by Cornelia herself with her best friend and boyfriend so It's does feel slighly new and fresh compared to many of the other songs. The other songs are great but it really is time to give it a rest. We have such good success that experiment would not hurt us at all. The closest time a swedish song were to win it got 4th place in Mello, but we need more representation for our language, many swedes fear sending a swedish song them thinking that people of Europe will dislike it, many say that swedish is ugly so swedes can be uncomfortable and get the idea that swedish is uncool and now also ugly.
