Also, are the UrSkeks responsible for seeding life on Thra (the name of which sounds like "Earth" in reverse)? And are the Gelfings actually Genetically Engineered Life Forms ("G.E.L.F." lings)? But I could never kill a mystic (I still think they're endearing) just to get rid of a skeksis, I'd rather lock the latter up somehow, throw away the key and force them into reuniting during the third great conjunction.

If you ever saw Nightmare On Elm Street Part 4, the Gelfling become part of the Skeksis just as Freddy's victims become part of him. If only the Gelfling could revolt whilst inside the Skeksis! They could pull the so-called "Lords" apart!
No, the crystal told Augthra. That when Skeksis consume Gelfling essences, they can’t return to thra. So they’re disrupting the natural order by consuming gelfling essences.
Why bother with artificial essence when they can get the "real deal"? Do you think the Skeksis actually care about the Gelfling? The Skeksis care only about themselves!
Plus I doubt that it would even be possible, as "essence" is literally the life force of thra, when something dies it goes to the crystal and is then sent back into thra. the gelling genocide in the future was probably why the skeksis were able to use the crystal in the movie.
Maybe it was a good thing that Netflix cancelled the prequel sequel since it was pretty much the continued demise of the gelflings before the original movie It would of been extremely dark to watch
