Seemed awfully hopeful for such a short amount of time. we had to leave the house due to the damage. We were in a motel for over a month. We came home to no bathroom, no toilet and not even a floor. We left again as instructed by the homeowners came back to the most beautiful bathroom but only lukewarm water in the fancy new shower. The homeowners are still gone as they're part of the house is still being worked on and I just want to take a damn shower in my own house so I am fixing it myself.

    Hi, I am not getting any water in my hot tap of my bathtub. However I am getting hot water everywhere else in the house. I changed the valve faucet cartridge but no luck. I also tried turning the cold water on and then blocking the pipe which then forcing it into the got water to remove any airlocks, still no luck.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 года назад

      Hey Agha,
      That’s a tough one. 99 times out of 100, it’s the cartridge. I wonder if you have a blockage somewhere? A bad shower valve??? - that might be expensive.
      Only other simple fix - have you adjusted the temp adjustment ring on the shower cartridge? They come from the factory cold or lukewarm at best. But you can change that.

    How do you do this if you have two separate knobs for hot and cold?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 года назад

      Hey Jena,
      If it's old school, then you have one pipe for hot water and a separate pipe for cold water - each going to its own handle. There each handle has a valve that controls the amount of hot and cold water. If you are only getting cold water, then the problem may be in the hot water side. If only hot water, then the cold side has the issue.
      thx for watching!

    What makes it suddenly go cold when it was hot before?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 месяца назад

      If it is likely turning a switch, might be a valve issue. More gradually - hot water heater may have run out of water.
      Other than that? Not really sure.

      Honestly don’t have much experience with older faucets. If other faucets in house get hot and cold fine, I’d look up a schematic online for that faucet - see what controls the hot / cold mixture.
      Worst case, I’d get a new faucet….

    Hello, I replaced the cartridge but the temp still fluctuated to really hot to no hot water at all. Now we're getting just cold water out of both temp settings (shower only). Is there a secondary mix valve somewhere before the cartridge that would cause that? It's a single knob so both temps are controlled with one handle. Also scalding hot water comes out of the other faucets. Would that be a furnace/ water heater issue? If it is the mixing valve where would that be found and how would it be diagnosed?

      Hey Lukmon,
      Did this happen suddenly? That certainly sounds odd.
      First turn only the hot water to the sink on. If no water comes out, then the valve controlling hot water under the sink must have gotten turned off. If it’s a single handle faucet, it’s possible there is a cartridge in the faucet handle that is faulty. I would look up the model number online and see if you can find one and replace it.
      If this is a multi- sink problem then you might have some sort of blockage.... might need a plumber to trace that out...
      Hope this helps.

    Quick question...all faucets get hot, except shower faucet...it only gets warm. It is a remodeled shower/faucet. I am first tenant since the remodel. Sometimes it is literally a barely warm shower...sometimes warmer...but never hot enough for steam, etc. Could these variations still be the anti scald device?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 года назад

      Hey Starry,
      Yes it could. There is a temp adjustment on the cartridge. If it’s a new remodel, it is very possible they just put the cartridge in and the factor setting is lukewarm. If you can get hot water at sinks ( which means your water heater is set correctly ), then that is the first thing I’d check.

    • @Housebarons

      Hey Antoinette,
      Still could be a bad cartridge which isn’t letting the hot water side to be selected. The valve blends the hot and cold. If it is in all hot, that means the cold side is shut off and for some reason the hot isn’t opened. Valves do go bad eventually.

Prior to this install the water pressure seemed fine, now its minimal and the water takes forever to warm up (3 minutes or more) and was lasting 6 minutes, now 2 -3 . This is only 3 years old. The wall mounted hot water heater is in the garage and this is the furthest water point in the house. The plumber has been here and the wall mount hot water company and they said the unit is working fine. the rest of the house has hot water...Could this be the issue or is there a pipe/plumbing issue. There is hard water here but you would think the other shower with a regular shower head would be the same. Any thoughts? thank you!

      Sounds like a flow problem. So that is either :
      Shower valve problem ( like in the video ),
      Or Piping problem.
      Has it been gradually getting worse ( hard water deposit buildup / restriction somewhere)
      Or did you wake up one day and it was suddenly less flow ?
      If you have hard water, the or flow they the pipes can be impeded.
      What kind of pipes do you have? Galvanized, pvc, copper ?
      How old is the house?
      Surprised the plumber didn’t troubleshoot this!

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 года назад

      Hey Vince,
      Yes. Sometimes we skip smaller steps in filming.
      What you have to determine is : 1) is the shower the only faucet not getting hot. Sinks OK?
      2) Assuming that it is only a shower faucet problem, your 2 most obvious options are : A - adjust them temp hotter.... or... if that doesn’t work B - replace the cartridge.
      Sometimes cartridges go bad and replacing is what is needed.
      Typically, one of these two options will fix the vast majority of issues.
      Hope that helps.
      Thx for watching.

    Assuming the shower was once hot, what would cause the valve you had to adjust to turn which caused the shower to become cold?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 года назад +1

      Hey Dan,
      I don’t know the interior mechanicals, I would guess that valves or something like that would control flow and could get stuck. Adjusting the dial to change the temp would work in the case where someone replaced the cartridge but never set the temp.
      Another possibility to cause the temp knob to be adjusted would be if the water heater performance was declining or house usage demand increased to the point where the old temp is no longer a comfortable setting.
      Typically, when we hear that the once hot shower is now cold, we’d be inclined to 1) replace the valve/ cartridge and 2) then set the temp knob of the new cartridge to desired level.
      Thanks for the question and for watching.

    I have this issues but the maintenance man to my apartment keeps saying the water temperature on my thermostat is 118° that may work for my other bathroom and faucets but my shower in my room only gets warm at the hottest position. • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  5 лет назад

      Hey Talia,
      That’s a great question - one I haven’t had much experience with ( apartments).
      It’s hard to diagnose without seeing it.
      Maybe try this : talk to your apartment neighbors and see if any of them know where theirs is.
      Has your water ever been shut off because a neighbor is having plumbing work done? If so - then you share a shut off. Another question to ask neighbors.
      You’d probably be looking for a handle or knob or lever which would turn all your water off if there are no individual shut offs.
      Just be sure. You don’t want to guess on this.
      Whose your maintenance guy answer to? Worth a try there.
      Worse case - call a plumber.
      Lukewarm showers - no thx!
      Be the squeaky wheel till you get an acceptable answer.

      Hey Andrew,
      The screw should back all the way out.
      What’s the source of the click. Is the screw head into which the Allen wrench stripped - slipping - and as such not backing the screw out?
      That handle won’t likely come off till the screw is out.
      They make screw extractors for stuck screws. Put it in a drill , put drill in reverse. The extractor is reverse threaded so it will bite into the screw ( probably ruin it) and turn it out.
      But first order of business is to figure out the “click”. Is the Allen wrench the correct size?’
      Bit of a puzzle.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 года назад

      Hey Silettoskydiver,
      Our experience is with delta. So hard to say beyond that.
      I’m assuming that everything worked fine before the changes you made??
      That would then be really coincidental that now you have an issue and it’s unrelated...???
      If there has been time between the repairs you made, then sure... might just be a cartridge issue.
      But if it was immediate after the changes you made... causes me to wonder.
      On second thought, maybe some sediment got into the stream and clogged the valve ... I’m totally guessing.
      I guess your risk is the cost of one shower valve.
      You could replace one of the cold showers valve and see if it fixes it. Worth a try. Sometimes it’s a guessing game.
      I’d be curious as to your outcome.

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  4 года назад

      Hey Jose,
      It could be you don’t have enough water flow in the pipes to run both at the same time.
      How old is you water heater? If it’s older , maybe hard water deposits are restricting the amount of water going into hot water pipe - enough hot water for one outflow but not two.
      Has this been happening gradually or did it just happen suddenly one day.
      Could be that your shower faucet has hard water deposits/ build-up not allowing it to fully open.
      You have to do a lot of detective work to narrow down the issue.
      Try running only hot water in shower, then turn on only hot water in Kitchen sink. Does it stop all hot water to the shower or just some.
      Short term solution : no one touches kitchen faucet when someone is in the shower. 😃
      Sorry - no quick solution without further examination.
      Thanks for viewing.

      2) turn on only hot water in the shower and then the sink in question. Does it stop hot water completely?
      3) Try this same thing with 2 sinks and no shower. Does turning on one sink deprive the other sink of hot water.

      I doubt temp can change over time unless the valve is defective or maybe the hot side has an obstruction??
      I don’t know what your valve is. It may not be necessary to shut main water off. But we encourage it - better safe than sorry. If you want to remove the valve cartridge, the water has to be off at the main shutoff.
